I Can Devour Spirits

Duan Rong’s gaze was cold as he pulled the Minghong Saber from the back of the fortune teller’s head.

The tip of the Minghong Saber was smeared with sticky brains. Duan Rong infused Inner Breath, causing the blade to tremble, which flicked the brains onto the ground.

Duan Rong sheathed the saber, his eyes surveying the surroundings.

He had already devised a plan earlier, and without any hesitation, he began to implement it immediately.

This dilapidated temple actually has two exits; besides the temple gate, it also has a collapsed corner, though the piled-up bricks and rubble make the narrow hole inconvenient for passage.

Duan Rong suddenly bent down, ripping off the cuff of his right pant leg, then his figure flashed as he hung the torn cloth onto the ragged wooden spike of a broken pillar at the collapsed corner.

Mountain winds blew in, and the ragged cloth fluttered in the wind...

Duan Rong was creating the illusion that he killed the fortune teller in the broken temple and then fled through the collapsed corner...

But his actual hiding spot was already determined by his gaze—next to the dusty jar beside the temple’s divine statue...

Duan Rong thought the jar placed beside the divine statue was too conspicuous, so he walked over, reached into the jar, lifted it from the inner wall, and placed it in a dark corner of the shaded temple.

At that place, the light did not reach, and without a careful look, the dusty jar in the corner was completely unnoticed.

After placing the jar, Duan Rong stretched one foot inside, crackling all over his body; his body began to shrink in circles. Two breaths later, he twisted his entire body bit by bit into the jar.

This was Duan Rong’s predetermined plan to use the Bone Shrinking Technique to hide inside the temple jar. This way, even if someone searched the temple, they wouldn’t notice him.

Duan Rong didn’t choose to escape directly because he feared he couldn’t escape. The Filthy Blood Sect laid out such a vast net, and who knows if there are people coordinating with them.

Secondly, he also didn’t want to just leave. What if, in the end, his side won? Though the Filthy Blood Sect is formidable, those sect envoys aren’t pushovers either.

He hid inside the jar, projecting his Divine Sense to investigate the situation outside.

This not only assured his safety but allowed him to adapt at any moment, ready to advance or retreat.

If they won, he’d leave the jar, and having killed the fortune teller could be considered a credit for slaying an enemy. With such a major case, the sect might reward him.

If it’s the Filthy Blood Sect that kills everyone on his side, Duan Rong would wait inside the jar until everyone dispersed before coming out.

If it’s the second scenario, Duan Rong doesn’t plan to return to Xianggu County.

In such a major case, if everyone dies, how could he explain how he survived? Both the sect and the government would focus on investigating him.

How could he withstand such scrutiny?

If it’s the second scenario, Duan Rong plans to flee to another place, live under a different identity for some time.

When the situation calms down, he’ll use the silver coins from the Wild Boar Mountain base to figure out a way to get himself an identity.

Three years later, he plans to participate again in the sect’s registered disciple selection under a new identity.

He doesn’t believe he’d be so unlucky a second time!

While hiding inside the temple jar, the only thing causing Duan Rong some concern was that Xiao Yu and Ximen Kankan, but his Divine Sense investigation couldn’t scan them.

Around him were only Tao Rong and Lv Qingzhu.

Xiao Yu and Ximen Kankan were likely in the wild field on the other side of the roadway. Duan Rong knew nothing about the situation there, and with powerful enemies surrounding him, honestly, only True Qi Realm experts were significant in this battle, while people like him were basically cannon fodder.

Duan Rong understood clearly that he could only save himself and couldn’t save others. If he rashly tried to force his way through the black-smoke-filled roadway to rescue Xiao Yu, he’d likely fail to save Xiao Yu and end up dead himself!

Outside was too chaotic, and he had no idea how many people the Filthy Blood Sect dispatched this time...

Tao Rong jumped out from the thick black smoke, landing in the wild field beside the roadway.

He gasped heavily, snot and tears flowing as the black smoke mixed with Poisonous Powder; he reacted a beat too late, inhaling a bit...

Tao Rong wiped his nose, raised his eyes, and saw someone emerge from behind a large tree not far away.

The person appeared to be in his forties, with a rugged face and resolute eyes, wearing coarse clothes, empty-handed, his face lined deeply with wrinkles, and his hands roughened with calluses.

The man walked forward slowly, his demeanor resembling that of a silent and honest old farmer from a nearby village.

He stood not far from Tao Rong, fixing his gaze on him and spoke in a deep voice, ”You’re Tao Rong?”

Tao Rong’s heart was shocked; in this desolate wild land, how could a normal farmer possibly call out his name right away upon speaking?

Moreover, with the smoke billowing and such commotion, yet this person remained calm and unflustered, he couldn’t possibly be an ordinary farmer.

Tao Rong didn’t respond, quickly drawing his weapon, holding the blade horizontally in front of him, his eyes rolling around because he already heard the faint sounds of weapons clashing around him, indicating the fighting wasn’t just happening here...

The old farmer seeing Tao Rong’s response chuckled, ”Quite cautious, are you? You have a fair complexion, but unfortunately, you’re not a woman. What’s the use of being pretty then?”

Saying this, the old farmer drew a Chopping Wood Knife from behind his waist.
