I Can Devour Spirits

A faint smile faded from Duan Rong’s face, replaced by a cold, indifferent expression.

No matter what, Yang Zhen must die, because only a dead man can keep a secret!

However, Duan Rong couldn’t face Yang Zhen’s eyes; what he feared most was the look in a person’s eyes at the moment of death.

And Yang Zhen’s dying eyes, he simply couldn’t face!

Duan Rong walked over, picked up Yang Zhen’s Barrier Saber, and pointed it at Yang Zhen’s chest, the position of the heart. If he just pushed gently, Yang Zhen would never wake up again.

Duan Rong’s hand trembled slightly, moving forward a bit.

The tip of the knife had already pierced Yang Zhen’s body, and Duan Rong could feel the sensation of penetration while gripping the hilt!

But at this moment, Duan Rong’s heart spasmed with pain!

He wasn’t sure if he himself was in pain, or if it was his original self hurting!

Duan Rong’s hand froze there. Just one more inch, maybe even just half an inch, and Yang Zhen would be dead!

He had to kill Yang Zhen. This was his decision ever since he saw Yang Zhen in front of the casino at noon. From that moment on, his heart was weighed down by a stone.

It was unclear how long Duan Rong remained frozen there. Suddenly, he felt his face itch. Thinking a spider had fallen from the beam, he reached up to touch it.

Instead, he found his face wet with tears.

At some point, his face had become covered in tears!

Duan Rong’s heart trembled as he pulled out the knife lodged in Yang Zhen’s chest!

He stared blankly at the unconscious Yang Zhen on the ground, as if petrified, and didn’t move for a long time.

If memory is a person’s character, then the original self still lived within Duan Rong’s body.

Because his memories had been passed down to Duan Rong.

The moments shared with Yang Zhen from childhood to adulthood were so real!

At that moment, Duan Rong understood he couldn’t kill Yang Zhen!

If he killed Yang Zhen, he would despise himself forever!

Duan Rong threw away the Barrier Saber in his hand and suddenly hoisted the unconscious Yang Zhen. He moved quickly, scaling the courtyard in the somber night, twisting and turning through the alleyways, moving like a ghost.

Duan Rong carried Yang Zhen, swiftly landing in a dilapidated courtyard!

All around was silence, the buildings were pitch black, and a plane tree stood cold and indifferent outside the courtyard wall.

This was Jie Lei’s secluded deserted home, abandoned since Jie Lei’s death.

Duan Rong carried Yang Zhen to the dry well in the courtyard.

Duan Rong scanned with his Divine Sense, and in the darkness, everything became clear.

Duan Rong carried Yang Zhen and descended lightly from the wellhead.

The entrance to the secret passage at the bottom of the well was narrow, and Duan Rong used a lot of effort to drag Yang Zhen inside.

Duan Rong placed Yang Zhen in the secret chamber originally meant for Xu Ruhu by Jie Lei.

In the spring, the underground chamber was damp; Duan Rong pulled out a Flint from his collar pocket and blew it to light.

By the weak light of the Flint, Duan Rong looked at the unconscious Yang Zhen. He suddenly flipped his hand, took out a Medicine Pill, stuffed it into Yang Zhen’s mouth, and pressed his chin, massaging his throat until he swallowed it.

This was a fake-death pill developed by the sinister doctor Shen Ping. After taking it, a person gradually enters a suspended animation state within half an hour.

This state lasts for five days. After five days, the effects wear off, and the person slowly wakes up.

In special circumstances, this pill can be used for deception. But now, Duan Rong gave it to Yang Zhen to buy himself more time.

In five days, he would have already left Xianggu County.

By that time, even if Yang Zhen knew he killed Jie Daohan, without evidence, how could such a ridiculous story convince anyone?

Who would dare, without evidence, to go to the Taiyi Sect and arrest him, a Sect Named Disciple?

Duan Rong believed that after five days, he would be safe.

Of course, the absolute safety would be to kill Yang Zhen! It wasn’t that he hadn’t thought about it; he felt he had a thousand reasons to kill Yang Zhen.

But he had only one reason not to kill Yang Zhen. The simplest reason, which was he couldn’t bring himself to do it!

Duan Rong sat in the damp air of the underground chamber until half an hour passed. He checked Yang Zhen’s pulse and breathing, discovering that his breathing had stopped and his pulse was no longer beating.

Duan Rong gazed blankly at Yang Zhen and said: ”Yang Zhen, I haven’t killed you. I don’t know if it’s right or wrong. I just don’t want to live my life consumed by loathing. Take care!”

Whether these words were meant for Yang Zhen or for himself was unknown.

After speaking, he extinguished the Flint in his hand, left the well, scaled the courtyard, and returned to Liu’s House in the pitch-dark night.
