I Can Devour Spirits

Li Jun was surprised because he also made such subconscious movements when doing mental calculations himself.

”This is...”

He didn’t know why Duan Rong would make that same gesture, but when he looked at Duan Rong’s focused face again, he felt a sudden chill run through him.

Li Jun’s expression turned serious. He had already put away his dismissive attitude and began to carefully note the positions of the account books Huang Qing was retrieving from the shelves.

His heart slowly sank!

When Huang Qing withdrew another account book from the middle of the fourth shelf on the north side and returned, Li Jun finally couldn’t hold back and walked over to Duan Rong.

Duan Rong took the account book from Huang Qing’s hands, flipped through it twice, and found the record he was looking for.

Duan Rong’s left index finger and thumb subconsciously rubbed the fabric of his sleeve. With master-level virtual plate mental calculation and master-level tallying unobstructed, all the relevant numbers instantly intertwined and merged, and the result of the mental calculation appeared in Duan Rong’s mind.

He glanced at the entry in the summarized account, and his heart skipped a beat.

The item of more than three thousand taels of silver coins had a floating discrepancy as high as over five hundred taels. The anomaly only appeared in the third layer of the accounts, with an item of over two hundred taels and another of over three hundred taels, each changing in name and being added again through different channels.

An item of more than three thousand taels, of which over five hundred taels, was embezzled by cunning name manipulation.

Considering the massive turnover of Yuan Shun Escort Agency throughout the year, how devastating would it be if this kind of skimming happened every year?

The more Duan Rong thought about it, the more alarmed he became!

At this moment, Duan Rong noticed Li Jun slowly pacing to his side.

Duan Rong’s gaze shifted slightly as he lifted his head.

Li Jun stood beside Duan Rong, his gaze sweeping over the twenty or thirty open account books in front of him. Li Jun had already noticed that these account books came from three different shelves.

This already explained a lot.

Now, his gaze skimmed over the open position of those account books in front of Duan Rong, and the area of the summary account book in Duan Rong’s hand.

This set of accounts was designed by him personally. Li Jun took one look and was scared out of his wits, he could immediately tell! Duan Rong understood it!

Just then, Duan Rong looked up at him and smiled brightly.

At this moment, Duan Rong suddenly flicked his sleeve, and a faint breeze brushed over Li Jun’s face.

Li Jun’s eyes blurred, and a sudden sense of dizziness hit him. His steps wavered, and as his vision darkened, he fell to the ground with a thud.

Xiao Yu and Huang Qing were both startled, not knowing what had happened to Li Jun.

Huang Qing immediately went forward, lifted Li Jun, and called out to him, but Li Jun’s eyes remained closed, showing no response...

Huang Qing raised his hand to check Li Jun’s breath, finding it still strong, and felt slightly reassured.

Duan Rong said, ”It’s stuffy in here with no air circulation, don’t suffocate him. Take him to the corridor.”

Huang Qing agreed with Duan Rong’s reasoning and immediately carried Li Jun to the corridor, laying him flat on the floor, pinched his philtrum, but Li Jun still showed no signs of awakening.

Duan Rong quickly ran to Room East Yi and called over Wang De’an.

Wang De’an arrived, seeing Li Jun unconscious on the west corridor floor with Huang Qing pinching his philtrum, he shouted, ”Huang Qing, what’s wrong with Li Jun?”

Huang Qing, looking distressed, said, ”I don’t know! He was fine a moment ago and suddenly fainted in the document library.”

Wang De’an checked Li Jun’s breath, finding it still steady.

By now, a lot of people had gathered around.

Suddenly, a voice sounded from outside the crowd; it was the chief accountant Xu Shouxian, alarmed and rushing over.

”Why aren’t you taking him to the clinic immediately, what are you waiting for?” Xu Shouxian’s voice carried a hint of anger.

Wang De’an immediately grabbed a burly apprentice accountant from the crowd, ordering him to carry Li Jun, and followed towards the street’s clinic.

The burly accountant was quite upset, having come just to join the commotion, only to end up being enlisted.

After Wang De’an and the others left, a group still gathered in the hall, whispering among themselves...

Xu Shouxian suddenly scowled and shouted, ”Got nothing to do, huh?”

Seeing the chief accountant’s anger, everyone scattered like birds and beasts.

Duan Rong, Xiao Yu, and Huang Qing still stood by the west corridor entrance.

Duan Rong gazed outside at the diminishing figure of Wang De’an, unperturbed.

The slight powder he had sprinkled on Li Jun’s face was a type of narcotic. This drug wouldn’t endanger a person’s life, but once knocked out, a regular doctor couldn’t wake him; the effect had to naturally pass...

After all, it was a narcotic concocted by the malevolent doctor Shen Ping, not easily counteracted!

Moreover, Duan Rong had controlled the dosage. He could be certain Li Jun wouldn’t awaken for at least five days.

Xu Shouxian ambled in front of Duan Rong and Xiao Yu, saying, ”Sorry for the fright! Li Jun’s health has never been great. The document library is a bit stifling, probably suffocated him.”

”I suggest this. I’ll assign another assistant for you to replace Li Jun. Although there’s been a mishap, it shouldn’t hinder your account checking.”

Upon hearing this, Xiao Yu wanted to speak since Li Jun was her assistant.

But Duan Rong suddenly said, ”No need for the trouble. Having Huang Qing here is sufficient. And besides, everyone looks quite busy.”

Xiao Yu, seeing Duan Rong speak like this, gave him a peculiar look but didn’t counter him.

Xu Shouxian said, ”Don’t stand on ceremony, Master Duan. The shopkeeper has instructed that the accounting department fully cooperate with you. Your auditing work is the most important, everything else can wait.”

Duan Rong smiled, ”For me, this audit is about balancing yin and yang, blending light and dust. Perhaps Mr. Li Jun will recover by the afternoon, switching people back and forth might not be good!”

Upon hearing Duan Rong mention blending light and dust, Xu Shouxian’s face broke into a broad smile, looking at Duan Rong more favorably, internally sighing: This young man’s perception is different from that old stubborn Xiao Zongting. If only Xiao Zongting could think this way, things would be much easier to accomplish.

Xu Shouxian smiled, ”Master Duan, you’re indeed a talented young man with exceptional insight. In that case, I won’t push further. If you encounter any difficulties during the audit, feel free to approach Wang De’an. If he can’t solve them, come directly to me.”

”Thank you, Chief Accountant Xu.” Duan Rong cupped his hands in greeting and turned towards the document library.

Xiao Yu and Huang Qing also turned and followed.

Just as Huang Qing turned, Xu Shouxian said, ”Huang Qing, come over, I need to ask you a few questions.”

Huang Qing immediately paused his steps, turned, and walked back to the corridor entrance.

Duan Rong and Xiao Yu reached the document library door, Xiao Yu asked, ”What did you mean by what you said earlier?”

Standing at the door, Duan Rong glanced at Xu Shouxian and Huang Qing at the corridor entrance, didn’t answer Xiao Yu, and stepped into the document library.

Xiao Yu’s eyes shifted, and she followed inside.

At the corridor entrance.

Xu Shouxian looked at Huang Qing and asked, ”What happened to Li Jun? How did he faint?”

Standing in front of Xu Shouxian, Huang Qing was visibly tense and nervous, saying, ”He was fine before... just... suddenly fainted...”

”Suddenly fainted?”

”Yes.”

Xu Shouxian pondered for a moment, ”Did Li Jun behave unusually today?”

”Nothing unusual,” Huang Qing said, ”just that he seemed to have drunk a lot at noon and came in the afternoon a bit late and intoxicated.”

Upon hearing this, Xu Shouxian’s expression changed.

Seeing the change, Huang Qing feared he had misspoken.

”You may go,” Xu Shouxian said.

Huang Qing, feeling relieved, turned towards the document library.

Xu Shouxian never asked a single word about the audit issue. Because, in his view, there was no need to ask. He had great confidence in the accounting department’s books, and fundamentally didn’t believe Duan Rong and Xiao Yu could find anything amiss.

Compared to the audit, he was more concerned about Li Jun’s health.

Li Jun was akin to the sharpest knife in his arsenal! This knife was something he wielded comfortably and couldn’t afford to lose!
