I Can Devour Spirits

Chapter 93: Chapter 93: Fetal Concealment Scripture

This well has been dry for who knows how long, the stones on the well wall are completely dry, and as Duan Rong supports himself at the well opening, fine sand and stone fragments slide off the dry wall.

Duan Rong employs the Cloud Serpent Step, sliding down the wall like a gecko...

Duan Rong’s form lightly lands at the bottom of the well!

All around is pitch black, and Duan Rong stands at the bottom of the well for a moment before getting used to this environment where you can’t see your hand in front of your face.

The originally dim starlight and moonlight now at the bottom of the well looks like the faint light is illuminating the well opening just a bit.

Duan Rong carries a flint in his inner pocket!

But how could he dare use it in an environment fraught with hidden dangers?

Once Duan Rong got used to the darkness, he immediately noticed in the bottom of the well behind him, there was a dark hole that’s a bit larger than a doghole.

Duan Rong bent down to examine it, trying it out, finding he could barely squeeze through...

Duan Rong stood there, gathering his thoughts, once more contemplating the action plan he had determined earlier...

Duan Rong knew Xu Ruhu might very well be hiding inside...

Going in like this carries certain risks, he might end up getting stuck inside...

But this action plan is the best one after repeated assessments, and his final conclusion is that there’s a high chance of success!

After a moment of deliberation, Duan Rong eliminated his doubts, gently inhaled, and squeezed through the dark hole.

After crawling only a short distance, the space gradually began to widen, Duan Rong stood up, and in the dark, he immediately got a whiff of a strong, rusty bloody smell...

Before him is a short passageway... a weak spot of light shoots through from the side at the end of the passage...

Duan Rong reached out to gently feel the walls of the passage, made of dry, compacted earth...

It seems this is not newly dug... perhaps it was already here before Xu Ruhu was captured...

It’s unclear what Jie Lei originally intended for this underground chamber...

Duan Rong’s gaze turned icy as he stared at the distant spot of light, moving his steps slowly, his walk as light as a cat, his right hand casually hanging by his trouser pocket...

”Cough... cough...”

Suddenly, a series of painful and hoarse coughs echoed inside the cave...

Duan Rong abruptly halted there, his heart seemingly leaping into his throat...

”Is it Xu Ruhu?”

After the coughing came a rustling sound and several strained breaths...

The strained breathing gradually subsided after a few breaths...

It was only then that Duan Rong resumed his steps...

Though it was just around ten steps away, it took him several breaths’ worth of time to cover the distance...

Duan Rong now stood at the edge of that murky yellow spot of light; a slight shift of his foot would take him into the spot of light...

Duan Rong took a deep breath, suddenly standing both feet within the light!

Duan Rong’s cloth boots appeared within the faint yellow glow, but most of his body remained in shadow...

Duan Rong focused his gaze, before him was a space not very large, earthen ground and wall, an oil lamp in the corner giving off weak light.

The walls were cracked in many places, some chunks of hard earth had fallen away...

Inside, there was nothing at all, no objects whatsoever...

Only in front of one earthen wall sat a lean person with messy, graying hair, who leaned against the wall, breathing seems labored, his shoulders plainly bandaged, but evidently severely injured, blood seeped through the bandages...

This person had a scraggly beard, eyes haggard and exhausted, near him were remnants of leftover cold dishes...

When a pair of cloth boots appeared in the light spot at the entrance, his eyelids lifted slightly, a look of disgust flashed across his face, his voice weak yet harsh, ”Why have you come again?”

”I only have eight layers of the Fetal Concealment Scripture. I’ve already given you the first four layers! If you want the remaining four layers, you must heal this old man’s injuries! Then find a chance to get me out of the city!”

As Xu Ruhu spoke and shifted, seeming to strain his wounds, his face showed an expression of pain.

Duan Rong stood in the shadows, his breath slightly halted upon hearing the Fetal Concealment Scripture!

Though he was hearing this name for the first time, he was certain this Fetal Concealment Scripture was indeed Taiyi Sect’s Divine Soul Skill!

This secret technique is considered an ultimate treasure by the Taiyi Sect, and the masses not only lack the qualification to access it, but even hearing its name is rare.

”He guessed correctly, Xu Ruhu indeed has the Divine Soul Technique!”

Duan Rong remained in shadow, making no movement or sound.

This was precisely a step he had arranged in his planned operation scenario; Xu Ruhu would certainly be hidden in a secret chamber within Jie Lei’s home.

And secret chambers are typically narrow and poorly lit; by suddenly appearing, there is a high probability Xu Ruhu will mistake him for Jie Lei.

He must capitalize on this step to extract more information.

Therefore, he bought a pair of cloth boots similar to the constable’s official boots, and a loose outfit rather than a tight-fitting suit for greater mobility!

Xu Ruhu leaned against the wall, somewhat puzzled by Jie Lei’s unusual silence today.

He pursed his lips, about to say something, when suddenly his heart skipped a beat, realizing that the shadowy figure was not Jie Lei!

Though at first glance, the silhouette seemed similar to Jie Lei’s, it was slightly taller.

Feeling anger swell within him, Xu Ruhu stared directly at the shadow, ”Who are you?”

Duan Rong sighed, not expecting this old guy to be so crafty and cunning, immediately sensing something amiss at his slight abnormal reaction.

He managed to extract just a single sentence, yet the information was sufficient; it was worthwhile purchasing those cloth boots!

Duan Rong didn’t answer Xu Ruhu’s question; as soon as Xu’s question left his mouth, while staring at the shadowy silhouette, two poison needles shot out from the shadow, nearly silent!

As the poison needles emerged from the shadow, Xu Ruhu’s gaze caught the glint of cold light, but his body was too late to move, not only because his shoulders were severely injured, but his Dantian had been destroyed, rendering him a cripple!

How could he possibly evade Duan Rong’s sudden strike?

The two poison needles, infused with Inner Breath, pierced straight into Xu Ruhu’s eyes!

Xu Ruhu’s Dantian was destroyed, his True Qi dispersed, leaving no Inner Strength for protection!

The needles charged with Inner Breath exploded his eyes!

Before Xu Ruhu’s eyes, two blood clouds the size of a child’s fist erupted!

As the blood mist dispersed, two empty sockets held the poison needles, their white cotton tails soaked crimson with fresh blood...

Suddenly losing sight, Xu Ruhu blundered about in darkness, shouting, ”Did Jie Lei send you, you little thief! You think this scheme can control this old man?”

When the poison needles blinded Xu Ruhu, Duan Rong felt a slight relief.

Having anticipated that Xu Ruhu’s Dantian was destroyed during his operation scenario, Duan Rong was somewhat prepared.

Jie Daohan got injured battling him, coughing up blood.

And Xu Ruhu was locked away in Xianggu County’s dungeon for nearly two months!

After Jie Daohan healed, why wouldn’t he torment him further?

Destroying his Dantian was to turn him into an old dog! Feeding him slop every day!
