Chapter 874: Chapter 870: Playing the Sucker

By the side of a pond spanning over a hundred mu, there was a crowd of people. Each tour guide, holding various colored chess pieces, was busy introducing things to their respective group members.

”This is the famous Longevity Village. The eldest person here is already 107 years old, and historically, there was once a person who lived to 135.”

The female tour guide, looking back at the people behind her while speaking fluent English, said, ”Moreover, there are many people over 90 years old here, and the reason for their longevity is this pond behind me.”

As the tour guide pointed, the gaze of the tour group followed.

”This here is the renowned Confucian Spring. If you look closely, you should see that the water at the center of the pond isn’t calm. That’s the spring head of Confucian Spring, and it’s never stopped flowing for centuries!”

A moment later, the female tour guide continued, ”If anyone is interested, you can join me on a wooden boat to taste the spring water there. It’s said that it can improve women’s skin!”

Immediately after, someone asked, ”Is that free?”

The tour guide blushed, a little embarrassed, and coughed lightly, saying, ”Of course, it’s not free.”

As soon as she finished speaking, laughter erupted all around.

Seemingly to ease the awkward atmosphere, the female tour guide quickly said, ”If no one wants to go, we’ll have half an hour of free activity, and then we’ll meet back here!”

After saying that, she couldn’t help but add, ”I think I should remind everyone, it’s best not to spend blindly here.”

As members of the tour group started to walk away, a hint of disappointment flashed in the tour guide’s eyes, but she seemed already prepared for such a scene.

However, just as she was about to take a break, she saw a man with round glasses and a black briefcase approaching her.

”Hello, Mr. Xiao, is there anything I can help you with?” The guide immediately recognized the person because he was one of the few Huaxia People in the group, making him easy to identify.

Xiao Tian, who had changed his guise to Xiao Erren, was a bit surprised and said, ”Are you also Huaxia People?”

The female tour guide smiled and replied, ”Yes, I’m studying here and just doing some part-time work during the holidays.”

Xiao Tian nodded: ”You just mentioned we could take a boat to the center of Confucian Spring. Come on, take me there.”

The tour guide blushed again, a bit embarrassed, and said, ”I advise you not to waste your money. First, renting a boat costs money, then getting water there costs money too, and the round trip ends up costing almost the same as your tour group ticket.”

”And that’s not all. Look at those people over there selling water. What they claim to be Confucian Spring water is actually no different from ordinary water. It might even just be regular drinking water, yet here it sells for dozens of times more.”

Saying this, the tour guide looked resentful, ”But despite that, there are still a lot of fools who buy it. This money is just too easy to earn!”

This didn’t surprise Xiao Tian much. Tourism is a one-shot deal; there’s hardly one repeat customer out of ten. If you don’t seize the chance to fleece them, it’s more surprising.

But coming here was specifically for the spring water of Confucian Spring, so even knowing it’s a rip-off, he had to grit his teeth and go for it.

With this in mind, Xiao Tian chuckled and said, ”So, that’s why you just advised against spending blindly here?”

”Exactly!”

The female tour guide responded, then explained, ”I just can’t stand these things!”

Xiao Tian pondered for a moment, recalling the hint of disappointment in the tour guide’s eyes, and asked, ”You should receive some commission for guiding people to the center of Confucian Spring, right?”

”Yes, and it’s quite a lot!”

After thinking for a while, the tour guide glanced around to ensure no one was nearby, then whispered, ”It’s almost worth half a month’s salary for me! But don’t go around telling people, I’m only sharing this with you because we’re both Huaxia People.”

Xiao Tian agreed, then said, ”Take me to the center of Confucian Spring to have a look.”

”...” The tour guide remained silent for half a minute, wondering if she heard wrong.

”What did you just say?”

Xiao Tian asked curiously, ”I asked you to take me to see the spring head of Confucian Spring. Is there a problem with the timing?”

”No, it’s not.” The guide sighed inwardly and said, ”I just wanted to make sure I didn’t hear it wrong.”

”You heard it correctly!” Xiao Tian nodded affirmatively.

The female tour guide couldn’t help but look Xiao Erren up and down, suspecting she misjudged him. She initially thought he was a learned scholar, but his actions seemed more like a nouveau riche.

Despite already being warned that taking the boat was like giving away money, he still insisted on going. She couldn’t tell if he was showing off wealth or not thinking straight.

Of course, business that comes to you shouldn’t be refused. After all, she had given him a prior warning, so even if he didn’t find it worth the money, she wouldn’t feel guilty.

With this in mind, the tour guide put on a smile and finally confirmed, ”You have to be sure about this, because once you’re on the boat, there will be no refund if you regret it.”

Xiao Tian nodded again, indicating he wasn’t joking, and then followed the tour guide towards the dock.

”Are you here this time for a vacation?” the tour guide asked as they walked.

Xiao Tian smiled and replied, ”Yes, is there something wrong with that?”

”No, I just thought you were... never mind, it’s over there!” She said, pointing to the dock not far away.

At the large dock, there were more than a dozen wooden boats moored, and four or five people, who seemed to be staff, sitting together playing poker, looking quite relaxed.

This indirectly also showed that business here wasn’t doing well.

As for the tour guide’s unfinished words, Xiao Tian didn’t pursue them, but he could pretty much guess what she was thinking.

She probably thought he was someone on a public-funded tour. Otherwise, apart from some rich people, not many would choose this kind of activity.

Seeing Xiao Tian’s expression, almost as if she knew what he was thinking, the tour guide explained, ”Don’t let the gloomy business look fool you. During peak tourist seasons like the annual flower viewing season, quite a few people still take this...”

The tour guide initially wanted to say only fools would choose this project, but considering there was such a person right next to her, she shut her mouth in time, coughed, and said, ”I’ll go talk to the staff, please wait a moment.”

After speaking, the tour guide briskly jogged over to the poker-playing staff, explaining Xiao Tian’s situation in Japanese.

Before long, a young man placed his cards down, stood up reluctantly, and called out to Xiao Tian rudely, ”Hey, you want to take the boat, right? Why are you still standing there?”

Fearing that Xiao Tian wouldn’t understand, the tour guide quickly ran over to translate the young man’s words for him.
