Chapter 200: 200 Bringing Down My Brother

”Our vassals have also agreed with Karl Mars’s opinion. All the vassals unanimously support the removal of Dale Mars.”

”...So you’ve finally decided to become dogs that bite their master.”

”Say whatever you want. For your information, every noble in the territory, the knight order, and even the employees working in the mansion all agree.”

Every single one of them had been won over by Karl himself or his women.

In effect, every organization with influence had turned their backs on him.

At this point, even Dale’s face was dyed with despair.

If things had reached this stage, there was no way out.

When literally everyone had become his enemy, what meaning was there in clinging to the lord’s seat?

No, he was in a situation where he couldn’t even keep that.

’No matter what, how could he have pulled off something this big behind my back?’

Dale looked at Karl with confusion.

Everything—everything that had led to this—was because of that bastard.

”You little shit. You’re kicking me out for that kind of reason! What about the chaos that will follow! Are you fine with whatever happens to this territory’s future!”

”Don’t worry. I’ve already thought about that part.”

Karl answered lightly with a shrug.

”At first, I did plan to deal with you properly. Send you to prison or frame you for execution.”

”If you did that, there would really be problems...”

”You’re right. Later, when I’m not around, it could become an issue, and it wouldn’t be good for the territory in many ways. There’s external perception and rumors too.”

Dealing with Dale would be simple.

But that would still cause damage to the territory.

That wasn’t what Karl wanted.

Whether there was a need or not, this territory was precious to him as well.

Setting up this occasion while carrying out revenge was for that reason too.

To take everything from him ”legally.”

”Originally, I should have inherited the territory as is... but I’m busy with various things. I don’t have the leisure to look after Mars too.”

”Th-Then...”

”If you step down quietly, I’ll make your daughter Leda the acting lord.”

Dale’s eyes shook wildly.

This was truly... an unthinkable proposal.

’He’ll make Leda acting lord in exchange for me stepping down?’

Considering the situation, it wasn’t a bad offer.

No, it was so good it was suspicious.

In the end, his bloodline would still succeed as lord.

He might be exiled to some corner of the forest and live worse than a commoner, but at least his daughter and his wife could be protected for sure.

’Why would he make this kind of offer?’

Was he really saying he’d end things between just the two of them?

Without dragging his daughter and wife into it?

He had definitely come here intending revenge on Dale.

So why was he trying to take care of the daughter he loved?

”...Honey, let’s accept it.”

Creusa, who had approached at some point, spoke.

Her face already looked resolved as she gazed at him.

”Your corruption has already been exposed. There’s no other way.”

Leda chimed in as well.

”Yes, Dad. I think the same. This is the best for us.”

”You two...”

How had he ended up hearing such words from his wife and daughter?

Guilt toward them surged and filled his chest.

...Yes, this wasn’t the time to be stubborn about pride.

As a husband and father, their happiness came first!

’...Fine, I’ve lost.’

Born as the untalented eldest son of a mage family, he had dreamed big.

Seeing Karl, who was called a genius and clever from a young age, made that desire even stronger.

What drove Dale was inferiority and jealousy.

He had been certain since childhood that he would inherit this territory.

That’s why he studied hard and made all sorts of efforts.

Until the genius Karl appeared and shattered everything.

Even to Dale’s eyes, a future where Karl took all his dreams was crystal clear.

...Then an unexpected stroke of luck came.

When their parents suddenly died, he thought it was his chance.

He seized it well and rose to the lord’s seat in his brother’s absence.

When the offer came from the witches, he thought heaven was helping him.

Yet look at him now.

The brother he thought he had dealt with had returned in glory.

Probably the greatest mage among humans now.

And he had stunningly beautiful wives—an elf, even a dragon.

Just embracing those women naked would be the ultimate happiness as a man.

Even if he somehow obtained the lord’s seat, what had he gained?

Not even the vassals or territory residents sided with him.

His hidden corruption and evidence were somehow in the hands of the brother who had been away from the territory for a while.

And he hadn’t known a thing until this was all prepared.

’Was I never fit to be lord?’

...All he had left were his beloved wife and daughter.

No, should he even consider himself lucky to at least keep them?

”...Fine. I’ll accept that offer. I will quietly step down from the lord’s seat.”

”Good thinking. About keeping this story outside...”

”You’ve shown this much consideration—I’m not shameless enough to be stubborn. Make it that I stepped down because of corruption and various crimes.”

”At least you can communicate in the end.”

Karl gave a sly smile as he looked at Dale and said,

”Well... I’ll be counting on you from now on too.”

”..?”

Dale didn’t understand Karl’s words.

What could he possibly be counting on from someone who would be exiled to a forest corner and live doing manual labor for life?

He remained puzzled but never realized until the end.

How far Karl’s planned revenge went.

And what expressions his wife and daughter behind him were wearing.

---

Dale quietly stepped down from the lord’s seat.

To the royal family, it was reported that Dale Mars had committed corruption and various crimes, felt responsibility upon discovery, and resigned.

It was a slightly suspicious situation, but no major problems arose.

When the lord himself admitted fault and cleanly resigned, there was no reason to oppose.

Afterward, his younger brother and other successor Karl officially became lord.

As pre-arranged, he appointed Dale’s daughter Leda as acting lord.

The family of the ousted lord not only avoided punishment but was appointed acting lord.

It was a highly unusual sight, but no one could voice opposition because of Karl’s influence.

Everyone already knew this was the best option in Karl’s absence.

Normally, this would weaken the lord’s power and cause vassals to run wild...

But even that didn’t happen because of Karl.

’Karl’s magic is already the best on the continent. He could wipe out a family like ours in one night.’

’Behind him are witches, an elf, even a dragon. Not even the king would want to upset him. No need to make trouble.’

’Karl is not someone we can oppose. If we act out and get targeted, who knows what will happen.’

’Even if the foundation was unstable and he was incompetent, he easily brought down a lord. Killing a vassal would be nothing—better be careful.’

’Sigh... Should I visit one more time before leaving? I want to suck that thick cock just once more...♥’

The vassals hadn’t cooperated in removing Dale simply because they liked Karl.

Honestly, an incompetent Dale was better for growing their own power.

They simply lacked the confidence to withstand the backlash of not cooperating with Karl.

Most vassals valued the territory more than their own authority to begin with.

Thanks to that, Leda was appointed acting lord with the active cooperation of all vassals.

”From now on, you’re the lord. I leave this place in your hands.”

”Yes, Mast— I mean, Uncle. I’ll work hard not to tarnish the Mars name.”

Leda safely became acting lord and began her activities with Karl’s support.

Though called acting lord, no one was unaware she was Karl’s puppet.

Even standing before her father’s enemy, Leda wore a dazed expression like a girl in love.

Karl would probably visit her unannounced or influence her remotely via magic tools from time to time.

In a way, Karl had created the best method to rule the territory even in his absence.

”Heh heh! Looks like I’ll have to stay on Leda’s good side too now. Who knows when Karl might hear something and get angry.”

”Geez. Having to bow to a girl who just became an adult.”

”What can we do? Even Leda absolutely obeys Karl Mars.”

”Now we just have to think of Leda’s will as Karl’s and serve well. It’s not a loss for us anyway.”

Karl was no ordinary opponent.

Just the magic books he had given them were proof.

Materials like that were things a mage family would spend a year’s budget to obtain.

He had given them away for free just to stay on his good side.

It was as good as showing the gap between them.

A message to cooperate since he had this much wealth and power.

The vassals all chose to obediently cooperate with Karl rather than risk ruin from greed.

Fortunately, Karl currently had little interest in the territory.

And the wealth and magical knowledge he spread were a great help...

If they just continued as before, they could live peacefully for decades.

Above all, they were certain.

’Karl Mars will definitely make this territory prosper even more than before!’

Under that belief, the Mars territory, having lost its lord, returned to daily life at a surprising speed.

It was a world where everyone looked happy and peaceful no matter how you saw it.
