Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress

Chapter 639: Breaking Through & Library for Giants

Immortal Token!

This was the true identity of the golden light.

Compared to the last time Liora had taken a deeper look at it, its appearance was now completely different.

Not only had the crimson hue on its surface grown deeper, nearly occupying twenty percent of its entire body, but its aura had also improved accordingly.

In the past, this weapon prototype had existed in a state between Rank 10 and Rank 11.

It was neither a true Rank 10 weapon nor a true Rank 11 one, but somewhere in between.

Now, however, it had taken a step further, having completely entered Rank 11.

Even given Liora’s current strength, she could no longer underestimate it.

It was no longer a mere method to disguise herself. By now, it could provide her with real assistance, able to be used even against equal opponents.

Of course, she had not summoned it for that reason at the present point.

She had no intention of fighting against the mechanical sphere.

Rather than fighting a meaningless battle with little benefit, Liora much preferred to simply go past it.

For most people, this was impossible.

The mechanical sphere constantly revolved, projecting an invisible stream of information in a range of several kilometers around it. Anyone who drew close to it would be attacked.

Combined with its careful placement, right beside the spatial passage, going to the second floor without fighting it seemed impossible.

That was indeed the case.

At least, for ordinary people.

However, Liora had another thing to depend on: the Immortal Token.

“Although the fusion has turned it into a weapon prototype, this does not mean that it has lost its ability to serve as a token.”

“If anything, that function has only been strengthened even further.”, Liora whispered.

The next moment, she took action.

Holding the token in her palm, she slashed through empty space as though wielding a sword.

As though in response, the space in front of her began to crack. Fragments of it scattered in every direction, as a large tear formed along its trajectory.

The space, which even Rank 10 Emperors would find impossible to damage when using all their strength, had now been shredded apart as if it were a normal piece of paper.

The reaction was immediate.

The pavilion seemed to have sensed it. An unknown power descended from out of nowhere and began to mend the space together.

Seeing the terrifying rate of its recovery, Liora did not hesitate. With a single step, she walked inside the opening.

A moment later, the space had recovered.

But Liora’s figure was nowhere to be seen. Only the mechanical sphere remained near the spatial passage, at the same spot since the very beginning.

Minutes later, another person arrived.

This time it was a Zerg Queen.

Unlike her demon counterpart, she seemed far more arrogant and disdainful.

Without sparing the sphere a single glance, she charged forward recklessly.

The result was expected. The moment she entered its effective range, her body was instantly wiped out.

She didn’t even manage to let a scream out, much less pass the sphere’s information to her companions.

Its existence was still a mystery.

For the foreseeable future, the mechanical sphere’s power would remain unknown to everyone.

And thus, the lives of wave after wave of Emperors would be harvested with no one knowing how.

—

Liora did not know what happened on the first floor after her departure.

Even if she knew, she wouldn’t have paid much attention to it.

For her, the fewer Emperors that remained alive, the better. Especially the strongest among them could very well become contenders for the final inheritance.

If anything, it would be best if they all died.

Pushing these matters to the back of her mind, Liora focused on the matter at hand.

Her gaze swept through the surrounding space.

The scene was strangely familiar.

It was another dark void.

Yet unlike the one filled with treasures and weapons before it, this one was full of bookshelves.

Book after book was stacked on their shelves, with some being partly open.

The place looked like a library built specifically for giants.

Ordinary people would feel incomparably tiny before it, giving them a strange sense of disharmony.

Even the books had been adjusted accordingly, reflecting those proportions. Each of them was larger than Liora’s entire body.

For a moment, she had to wonder.

Was this place really built for humans?

Had ancient cultivators truly possessed such strange tastes?

It took some time before she recovered. She shook her head, suppressing these inexplicable thoughts.

With a quick sweep of her consciousness, Liora discovered that the void was empty.

Clearly, the Mechanical Race had poured its entire forces into the first floor, leaving this place “undefended”.

Even so, Liora did not grow reckless.

“Everything points to the Mechanical Race having prepared for this moment for a very long time.”

“Whether it was defending the formation and preventing us from coming in, separating us upon entry, or the mechanical sphere along the entrance, it seems that their plan is not as simple as obtaining whatever inheritance this place holds.”

Adrian’s words replayed in Liora’s mind, causing her eyes to narrow.

Perhaps, this place indeed contained clues regarding the final inheritance.

Only this would justify the efforts the Mechanical Race had gone through. Otherwise, even a Rank 11 inheritance was not worth it.

With that thought, Liora didn’t rush to do anything.

Just like she had done when she appeared on the first floor, she carefully surveyed her surroundings, trying to find any more clues.

Approaching one of the many towering bookshelves, she slowly raised her head.

Her eyes landed on top of the giant book.

She understood instinctively that these books could not be read as one normally would.

Rather, they required a certain method. Fortunately, that method was simple.

Liora’s consciousness swept out, enveloping the book she had targeted.

The moment it wrapped it completely, a connection was established between them.

Then, a torrent of information moved through it and flooded her mind.
