Chapter 601: Puzzle

The final words of the mysterious figure lingered in the air.

Although they hadn’t stated it explicitly, their meaning was abundantly clear to anyone who stopped to consider it.

During the trial, neither the figure nor its owner would care about the participants’ safety.

If someone managed to kill another participant, regardless of the method they used, they would receive no punishment whatsoever.

In fact, by taking the initiative to mention it, the figure almost seemed to be encouraging them to do exactly that.

Liora immediately grasped its intention. As did everyone else.

Yet no one chose to attack.

Whether it was the tentacled Emperor or the Zerg Queen, both of them remained perfectly still, staring intently at the puzzle pieces before them as though they had forgotten each other’s existence.

Only Elaouthr showed signs of wanting to charge forward, but Liora quickly stopped him.

She shook her head.

With her experience, she immediately understood what everyone was thinking.

The figure had openly stated that fighting was permitted.

Precisely because of that, no one was willing to be the one to make the first move.

Had it remained silent, someone might have gambled on eliminating the others first. But now, those words had become invisible shackles.

“Everyone in the room is an experienced powerhouse. Regardless of how sincere that figure appears, no one is foolish enough to trust its words completely.”

“Compared to everyone else here, that figure might be the greatest threat.”

As such, everyone guarded against it.

They were unwilling to do anything that might end up benefiting the other party, even if that was what they wanted to do.

“Everyone, focus on completing the so-called game before you. Don’t worry. You don’t have to hold back.”

“If someone succeeds and the inheritance is indeed a real thing, I won’t interfere with whoever obtains the reward. Everyone can compete for it based on their own abilities.”

Suddenly, the tentacled Emperor’s voice echoed in Liora’s mind.

Not only in her own, but judging from the demons’ change of expression, everyone else’s too.

Even Elaouthr showed a brief trace of surprise before nodding his head as though he understood.

He took a seat on the floor and waved his hand, bringing the puzzle pieces closer and examining them carefully.

The rest of the people in the hall, including the Zerg Queen and the tentacled Emperor, did the same.

Within moments, the entire hall fell silent.

Everyone focused completely on the trial, almost as though the others no longer existed.

Liora also did the same.

Finding a relatively empty corner in the hall, she enveloped the billions of puzzle pieces with her power and took a seat.

Then, her gaze swept across them.

When on the screen, the puzzle pieces had numbered in the billions.

Although it had now been divided into six sections, each assigned to one participant, the number of pieces had barely become any more manageable.

Through a brief glance, Liora could be certain that they still numbered in the billions.

Moreover, their shape and uniqueness remained unchanged.

“The ‘game’ requires us to complete the puzzle of our section. This is… strangely familiar…”, Liora muttered inwardly.

When she had been in one of the many worlds near the Demon World, she had encountered the inheritance of the Path of the Mind.

To obtain it, she had to go through three different trials in a palace similar to this one.

Some of these trials tested her combat prowess, others her will, while some her qualifications.

Among them was a trial similar to this one.

Liora was forced to complete a complicated puzzle if she wanted to succeed.

Back then, she had been far weaker than she was at the moment.

At first glance, this trial should have become much easier. Yet reality was the exact opposite.

While Liora herself had grown stronger, the puzzle had become incomparably more complicated.

Moreover, the moment her eyes settled upon the pieces, she felt an invisible force clawing at her soul, as though trying to tear it apart from within.

Only then did she realize that the puzzle’s complexity was merely half of the trial.

“Completing the puzzle by itself serves to test one’s comprehension. On the other hand, being able to withstand the impact in one’s soul tests the so-called Dao Heart.”

In Liora’s opinion, the latter simply referred to the strength of one’s soul.

As she felt the puzzle’s power trying to tear apart her soul, she couldn’t help but feel speechless.

The figure had claimed this game had been created by an ancient powerhouse to entertain his children.

What kind of parent entertained their children with something even Archdevils would struggle to complete?

Could it be that this didn’t serve as a form of entertainment, but as punishment for them misbehaving?

Soon, Liora suppressed these inexplicable thoughts.

She shook her head, shifting her attention back to the present.

Her eyes focused on the puzzle pieces.

Although the impact on the soul soon arrived, under which ordinary people would struggle to concentrate, Liora was different.

She had practiced the Path of the Soul after all.

In the past, she had opened the World of Heart and integrated it with her own soul space.

Her soul had long since surpassed the level of an Archdevil.

After the World of Heart transformed into the Cosmic Sea, it became even stronger.

By now, even Ancient Devils would struggle to threaten her through soul-based means.

Although the puzzle pieces in front of her were extraordinary and were created by an ancient powerhouse, they were far from enough to cause her any danger.

As such, Liora quickly recovered and waved her hand. Two pieces appeared atop her palm.

Her consciousness enveloped them.

With a soft click, the two pieces merged seamlessly. A faint ripple spread across their surface, as though something dormant within had been awakened.

Liora merely glanced at it before confirming that nothing had happened. Then, she summoned another piece.

A third puzzle piece appeared on her palm. Then, another click echoed.
