Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress

Chapter 417: Awakening of the World Devourer Ancestor

Opening the True Spirit Gate was not a ”real” action as much as it was a concept.

According to everything Liora knew, a Devil’s True Spirit was sealed within the gate, unable to escape its cage.

To unleash it, one had to open the gate. Hence, this stage came to be.

This process didn’t require physical strength, but instead required the Devil’s soul to carry a certain ”weight”.

Their overall strength, their insights over their journey, the techniques they had practiced, and even the bloodline itself all factored in that ”weight”.

For most Greater Devils, opening the True Spirit Gate was a process of long-term accumulation.

They would have to spend thousands of years slowly pushing it open before they could free their True Spirit sealed inside.

Of course, this was the case for the most talented Devils.

Most people would never reach this stage, while the majority of the few who did would remain stuck in it forever.

From this, the difficulty of opening the True Spirit Gate was apparent.

Even Liora had heard several reminders from her ancestors contained in her bloodline memories, asking their descendants to be patient.

Although she had been confident, Liora had always been prepared to face some obstruction.

Yet, the moment her hands came into contact with the True Spirit Gate, she discovered that her situation was different than what she had heard before.

With just a gentle push, the True Spirit Gate swiftly moved forward, revealing the space hidden within it from a small crack.

The entire soul space roared and expanded at an astonishing rate, seemingly receiving feedback from behind the gate.

As a result, the process of opening the gate became even easier.

With a small shove, twenty percent of it had already opened, and with another, it turned into more than half.

Liora’s soul shone brilliantly.

Both her soul and physical body received extraordinary benefits, and her strength improved once again.

Still, she hadn’t undergone a transformation just yet.

It was only when she fully opened the gate that her advancement would be complete, and she would advance to an Archdevil.

Liora knew this very well.

Therefore, she didn’t pause and continued pushing the gate.

In the blink of an eye, more than ninety percent of it had been opened, revealing a bottomless darkness and a small light hidden within it.

For other Devils, such progress would have taken forever to achieve.

But Liora was able to reach this point in mere seconds after touching the True Spirit Gate.

It was only then that the World Devourer Ancestor finally reacted.

Their slumbering will quickly recovered and they seemed to have instantly understood what was happening.

As a terrifying face appeared in the miasma etched across the door, countless tentacles covered in murky gray liquid fired out and attacked Liora.

At the same time, the mouth of the face parted, and it let out a shrill cry. This was not a call of anger, but a soul attack.

Liora’s soul body stumbled as it rang in her ears.

Although she quickly regained consciousness, her momentary pause gave enough time for the tentacles to arrive.

She didn’t have the chance to evade.

In a hurry, she could only remove her hands from the True Spirit Gate and defend.

The projection of the Land of Nothingness appeared above her head, and a sphere of revolving gray substances descended.

Under Liora’s control, the sphere exploded, transforming into countless weapons that were sent to meet the incoming tentacles.

On one side stood tentacles covered in murky liquid of extreme corrosive properties.

On the other side stood a large number of weapons, slashing through the air as if they were an experienced army.

The next moment, the two sides clashed.

A muffled bang echoed.

Their collision point became impossible to capture.

All one could see was countless gray lights flashing while muffled booms resounded throughout the soul space.

The confrontation did not last for long.

Within a split second, the lights retreated, and everything quieted down.

The place originally covered by the gray lights quickly became clear.

The outcome had been decided, and it was very obvious.

Shockingly, the person who won was not Liora, despite the several transformations her strength had gone through.

Rather, the one to emerge victorious was the World Devourer Ancestor.

Although the weapons managed to contain the tentacles for a brief moment, the corrosive liquid on their surface unexpectedly fell on them and corroded them.

The weapons made of Nothingness then transformed back into their source power, not dissipating but rather merging with the tentacles and empowering them further.

Liora’s face turned ugly as she forced herself to suppress the backlash.

Seemingly immersed in their victory, the face made of miasma spoke for the first time.

”I didn’t expect that you would become so powerful in such a short amount of time.”

”Unfortunately, you overestimate yourself and underestimate me...”

”Your bloodline, your abilities, and the power of Nothingness were all given to you by me. How can you possibly use these powers to defeat me?”, the World Devourer Ancestor chuckled eerily as their voice penetrated Liora’s ears and rang in her soul.

Upon hearing their statement, Liora didn’t try to argue back.

She knew that what the World Devourer Ancestor said was the truth.

Indeed, during the previous confrontation, she had been at a disadvantage not because of the difference in strength, but because of the difference in their understanding of the power of Nothingness.

With just a thought, the World Devourer Ancestor had been able to gain control over Liora’s attacks and use them for their own use.

”Archdevils are said to be the source and creators of their respective bloodline.”

”In a certain sense, all the abilities, techniques, and even most bloodline memories are created by them.”

”The suppression of their descendants is said to have reached a terrifying level. Not only on the bloodline level, but also in their respective insights.”

The World Devourer Ancestor was either dead or in a bad state—this much was already obvious.

As a result, they could not use their bloodline to directly suppress Liora and render her unable to resist them.

Still, with their rich knowledge and control over the World Devourer abilities, they held a complete advantage over her.

In fact, even if they were both at the same stage, the World Devourer Ancestor could easily suppress any other World Devourer.

”Fortunately, I’ve already expected this and have been prepared.”, Liora whispered.

Since she dared to come here, she was obviously confident in dealing with any unexpected events.

Among them, the World Devourer Ancestor’s suppression was quite predictable and had thus been accounted for.

Thinking of this, and seeing the tentacles approaching her, Liora didn’t hesitate.

An illusory river emerged from her body and wrapped around her figure, before thousands of water drops were fired out with a flick of her fingers.
