Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress

Chapter 267: Overdrive & Integration

In the end, though, Liora shook her head and pushed that matter aside.

No matter how curious she was, it was impossible for her to find the answer right now.

Understanding this, she simply noted down this phenomenon and shifted her focus back to reality.

Looking at Alpha, who was also staring at her with faint excitement in her eyes, she nodded her head and spoke up:

”I can see that your strength has significantly improved. Just based on your current abilities, you should be able to go head-on with some weaker Lesser Devils.”, she praised, before continuing:

”Did you awaken any new abilities this time?”, she questioned.

Hearing the first part of her words, Alpha couldn’t help but let out a smile. She hid it quickly, but her joy was quite apparent.

However, it remained to be seen whether this was because of the improvement of her strength or because of Liora’s praise.

Seeing that Liora was curious about her new abilities and wished to learn more, Alpha did not keep her waiting.

”All my previous abilities have been strengthened. Especially Life Infusion has received a significant enhancement.”, she stated and added:

”However, this is not the biggest change. My advancement has also resulted in me awakening two new abilities.”

As she saw Liora motion her to showcase them, Alpha did as told.

With a move of her mind, the mechanical core hidden inside her body emerged and fell into her hands.

Watching Alpha brush her fingers against its shimmering surface, Liora couldn’t help but feel a little strange.

After all, this thing was arguably Alpha’s most important possession.

Though it was described as a heart earlier, it was in fact even more crucial to Alpha than a heart to humans.

Alpha did not seem to notice Liora’s gaze.

Holding the mechanical core, she explained:

”My first ability is related to this thing.”

”A space has been born within my mechanical core. In it, I can store inanimate objects, similar to the Lord’s Space Orb.”, she said.

”But its real function is not this. Apart from items, I can also store energy within my core, energy that will not be lost with time.”

”By detonating the stored energy, I can temporarily boost my own strength.”

”I like to call this ability: Overdrive.”, Alpha explained.

Hearing this, Liora instantly understood the importance of this ability.

It basically allowed Alpha to enter a crazed stage, similar to the Life Ignition of Great Knights or the effect of the Bloodforge Halberd.

Of course, the ability’s exact strength remained to be known.

”It mostly depends on how much Alpha’s strength can be boosted in the Overdrive state. If it is by a few percent, then it’s useless.”

”However, if enough preparation can allow her to temporarily gain the strength of a True Devil, then its significance is self-explanatory.”, Liora thought inwardly, but she didn’t rush to let Alpha give it a try.

Storing energy within the mechanical core was bound to take time, and it was impossible to happen within a few minutes.

Liora was in no rush. Sooner or later, Alpha would have the opportunity to display this ability and showcase her strength.

Seeing Liora nod her head in approval, Alpha was not surprised. Although such an ability was not very flashy, it could play an unexpected role under certain circumstances.

However, compared to her other new ability, Overdrive seemed far less important.

Thinking of this, the smile that Alpha had previously hidden could not help but emerge again.

”My other ability is also related to the mechanical core. However, it is far more complicated.”, Alpha stated as her grip on the mechanical core subconsciously tightened.

”Essentially, I can now integrate my mechanical core into other people.”

”During the integration period, the other person will be strengthened, and they will also be able to use a part of my abilities.”

Saying this, Alpha’s eyes wandered on Liora, as if she were ready to slap the core onto her.

To this, Liora couldn’t help but feel speechless.

If it were not Alpha but someone else looking at her in such a way, the first thing she would have done was to summon the power of Nothingness and wipe them out.

But sensing Alpha’s eager gaze and knowing that she really wanted to display this ability, Liora nodded and gave her permission.

”Go on. Give it a try.”, she said.

As if she had been waiting for these words, Alpha did not hesitate.

The next second, the mechanical core in her hand glowed brightly, while the rest of her body began disassembling.

Breaking down into its smallest pieces, gears, it floated forward and rushed towards the core, drilling into it.

Once everything was inside and only the mechanical core remained, it shot towards Liora and tried to enter her body.

Liora noticed that the Myriad Devils Body activated on its own and prevented this external object from affecting her.

It was only when she consciously suppressed its effects and the core no longer faced any resistance that it was finally able to enter her body.

Melting into pure energy, it coursed through her body, seemingly working hard to empower her.

Liora had extraordinary control over her body and instantly noticed the changes.

The improvement in strength was hardly noticeable and could hardly play any role.

But a deeper, more crucial change was quite apparent.

Sorting through the information that had appeared in her mind, Liora thought for a second before she reached out with her hand.

Instantly, the skin of her palm parted, and a translucent thread shot out before drilling inside one of the weapons that were scattered on the floor.

As if the weapon had suddenly obtained a will of its own, it began floating and whistling through the air.

Obviously, the ability that Liora had just activated was Life Infusion.

This ability, which was now unique to Alpha, was not being cast by her as if she were its owner.

Of course, Liora knew that this was not true.

Although it was activated based on her own will, she understood that it was the energy coursing through her body and acting as a medium that granted her this ability.

Once this energy left and her symbiosis with Alpha ended, she would no longer be able to use Life Infusion.

”If I have stored any energy within the core beforehand, I can also allow the Lord to enter the Overdrive state.”, a voice suddenly rang within Liora’s mind.

Its owner was none other than Alpha.

Surprisingly, despite existing in such a state, she was still able to communicate with Liora telepathically.

Hearing her words, Liora nodded to show that she understood.

”I wonder if I can now sever my body too...”, she thought secretly as she looked down at her own hands.
