Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress

Chapter 167: Hero [2] - War

”Still, this means that I’m getting closer and closer to the King of Knights rank. It looks like I have to speed up the progress of my research. Otherwise, I will be truly stuck when I reach the peak of the Great Knight rank.”, Liora decided.

She was about to use the following time to comprehend a few more Knight skills. But just then, her eyes narrowed.

Under her gaze, the space of the demi-plane began to shake, and the clouds tumbled violently.

At the same time, Liora sensed that two overwhelming auras were clashing outside, engaged in a battle.

Seeing this, Liora didn’t linger. Her mind moved, and a crack opened, swallowing her figure and bringing her back to reality.

Then, with a quick leap, she climbed onto the building’s rooftop and raised her head, staring towards the distance, hundreds of meters away from Hope City.

More accurately, she was looking at the place where the two auras were colliding.

Immediately, the owners of the two auras fell into her eyes.

One of them was a beautiful woman in her late twenties with long purple hair and wielding a long spear, while the other one was a gigantic beast.

Seemingly belonging to the ape family, the beast was more than fifty meters in height and was covered in thick, rough fur.

It constantly swung its muscular arms around, colliding against the woman’s spear as it tried to tear her apart.

The moment Liora’s gaze landed on them, she didn’t need to expend much effort.

She instantly recognized the woman’s identity. She was the person in charge of Hope City and the entire human side’s defense, the famous Duchess Lobelia.

Since the beast could contend with her without falling into an immediate disadvantage, its identity was also clear.

It was a beast that had reached the Great Knight rank.

Liora’s eyes focused on the two figures for a few seconds before they shifted towards the city’s walls.

The attack of the Ape Beast did not seem random.

As if it had been coordinated beforehand, a large number of beasts emerged and were attacking the stone walls.

Knight Apprentices, True Knights, even beasts equivalent to Great Knights could be seen, as if they were trying to submerge the city and enter the human mainland.

As a result, the nobles could no longer follow the Duchess’s commands.

Whether they were willing or unwilling to risk their lives, they had to step forward and fight with all their might.

Otherwise, Hope City would truly fall, and they would become eternal sinners.

Though the war was fierce and murderous intent emanated from everywhere, Liora didn’t pay much attention to the nobles’ actions.

Instead, most of her focus was on a beautiful blonde figure who waved a golden sword around, harvesting the beasts’ lives.

It was Eleanor, wielding the blessed sword that the woman had presented to her not long ago.

Like a fish that had entered water, Eleanor wandered through the battlefield, with the Knights of the Black Tulip family following her footsteps.

No matter what beast she met, she would kill it with a simple swing of her sword, displaying the demeanor that only great generals possessed.

Other people might not have realized it, but Liora, who was not participating in the war, noticed something bizarre.

Each time Eleanor slaughtered a beast, her strength increased a little.

At the same time, the members of the Black Tulip family became braver while their fighting intent surged.

Eleanor soon ended up becoming the center of the battlefield.

The soldiers subconsciously gathered with her at the center, using her as a spearhead to break the beasts’ formation.

Liora couldn’t help but click her tongue.

Sure enough, some people were inherently special.

No matter where such people went, they would become the center of attention, or rather, the main character.

While sighing, Liora shifted her attention back to the other battlefield.

She understood that, although the battle at the walls was fierce and bloody, it was not the most important.

The fight that would decide the war’s outcome was not the war between these weaklings, but the battle between Duchess Lobelia and the Ape Beast.

If Duchess Lobelia won, everything would be fine.

But if the Ape Beast emerged victorious, all the humans here would end up becoming the beasts’ meal.

”But judging from the current situation, this seems unlikely to happen.”

As Liora observed the fight, the situation became clear.

Duchess Lobelia was obviously stronger than the beast.

Waving her spear around, as if she were performing a beautiful dance, she displayed terrifying power and overwhelmed the towering beast.

In Liora’s opinion, it was only a matter of time before the Duchess would come out on top and defeat the Ape Beast, if not kill it.

However, though this was Liora’s analysis of the battle, she was not so certain about it.

”If this were an ordinary riot of the beasts, things would indeed go on like this. But this time, the riot is different. There is a deeper purpose.”

Liora had not forgotten that behind the beasts’ attacks was the figure of an unknown person, a person with the strength of a Lesser Devil.

Thus, she did not believe that the Ape Beast’s arrival was an accident.

Most likely, some change would soon occur and tilt the balance of the war.

Liora’s thoughts were soon proven to be correct.

Only a few minutes later, when Duchess Lobelia seemed ready to drive the Ape Beast away, a thunderous roar spread throughout the battlefield.

On the horizon, a truly massive figure appeared and, with a quick flicker, teleported next to Hope City.

However, this beast didn’t participate in the battle between the Duchess and the Ape Beast.

Instead, it rushed towards the place where the soldiers and the beasts were currently fighting.

Its aura surged, freezing the air in the city.

The next moment, a large shadow covered the entire battlefield.

A large palm appeared in the sky, ready to fall down and engulf both the humans and the beasts within it.
