Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress

Chapter 147: King of Knights [3] - Bloodline Seed

With a move of Liora’s mind, her Life Force poured into the Space Orb.

The next moment, a familiar light appeared, opening a gap in the space before her.

At the same time, the Space Orb in her hand vanished, as if erased by an invisible hand.

Liora paid no heed to this. With a step forward, she entered the gap that subsequently closed.

When her eyes opened again, she was inside the Space Orb’s interior, a space too small to live in but large enough to store valuable items.

Due to her previous adventures, the space was now packed.

Corpses, precious items that she had obtained from the Necronomicon Sect’s stronghold, and even living, breathing people. Though it was difficult to ascertain that they were actually alive.

Looking at the robed woman, whose injuries had yet to heal and who had remained unconscious during this time, Liora didn’t rush to wake her up.

Although this person—a high member of the Holy Church—was certainly valuable and worthy of interrogation, dealing with her was far from the most urgent thing.

What Liora cared about the most at the moment was the items that she had collected during her trip, items that Marquis Lavender and even the unknown Devil seemed to value greatly.

The first thing that Liora picked up was a thick book that she had found somewhere in the underground research facility.

It didn’t possess any extraordinary power, but the value that the Marquis attached to the research piqued her interest.

The book was in the form of a diary rather than a report, most likely kept by the two crazy researchers.

As Liora slowly flipped through its pages, its contents were slowly revealed before her eyes.

...

”Day 12: The Holy Sect has ordered that we conduct new research. Over the past few days, many corpses of women and men have been brought over. They requested that we conduct research on their blood.”

”...”

”Day 35: Under our full efforts, we have discovered that every person’s blood seems to contain a strange substance. The more of that substance one possesses, the more likely they are to become a Knight. Moreover, this substance seems to be linked to one’s talent.”

”This is truly groundbreaking! No wonder the Holy Sect attaches such importance to this research!”

”...”

”Day 132: After months of trying, it is now possible for us to extract some of that substance. However, grafting it onto another person is impossible for now. Every test subject has broken down upon having it enter their body, most likely a result of their lack of compatibility.”

”...”

”Day 289: It has been discovered that the blood of women has a higher compatibility with most people. As long as enough substances are extracted and the process is conducted slowly, grafting it onto other people is finally possible!”

”...”

”Day 300: The first experiment was successful. Several substances were grafted onto a person who previously lacked the talent to become a Knight. Now, they can actually train!”

”Although their talent is very bad and they will remain as a Knight Apprentice for the rest of their life, this success is enough to show that we are on the right path!”

”...”

...

The book’s contents perfectly matched what Liora had overheard during her infiltration, though they went into more detail.

Still, Liora was left unsatisfied.

The thing that interested her the most was the ”God’s Inheritance” that she had heard repeatedly since her descent to this world, as well as the Bloodline Seed mentioned by Marquis Lavender.

Although such research was certainly interesting and might be useful in the future, it was none of her concern for now.

Thinking of this, Liora’s gaze shifted towards the two most valuable items that she had obtained. One in the underground room with the Devil’s statue, and the other found in the robed woman’s hands.

”It seems that I’ll have to personally inspect those things...”, she whispered as demonic energy emerged from her body and wrapped up the two objects.

Then, it brought them closer, stopping only when they were a few centimeters away from Liora’s face.

However, Liora didn’t stretch her hand and pick them up.

Instead, she continued manipulating her demonic energy to let them float in the air, while her eyes carefully sized them up.

Two shiny metal orbs. One red and one golden, each having countless intricate symbols engraved on its surface.

These symbols seemed to fit together perfectly like pieces of a larger puzzle, outlining an indescribable image.

Although Liora had never seen such an object before, sensing the longing of her Life Seed and recalling the information she had just read, she instantly recognized the two orbs’ identity.

Bloodline Seeds—the Inheritance bestowed upon the humans of this world by the Gods, and the thing that allowed them to escape the life of captivity.

However, this holy item, which countless yearned for, revealed a completely different appearance in Liora’s eyes.

In her field of vision, the two things floating in front of her were not shiny orbs, but a pair of blood droplets.

The droplets squirmed eerily like two living insects, while quiet, inaudible voices came out of them, tempting everyone in their vicinity to devour them.

Her Life Seed was responding to that call, hence the peculiar longing she was feeling.

Liora was not horrified by this scene. Though slightly surprised, she had seen far more terrifying things.

Therefore, she was able to calmly analyze the situation. Or rather, discover some other unexpected aspects.

”The Bloodline Seed I obtained from the robed woman seems to be many times more active than the one of the Necronomicon Sect. Is there any difference between them?”, she pondered.

But after a few seconds of thinking, she thought of an answer. The information she had obtained earlier resurfaced in her mind as she quickly pieced everything together.

”If I’m not wrong, the Bloodline Seed I obtained from the Necronomicon Sect is not the gift given by the so-called Gods. Instead, it is something artificially created through the extraction of the substances in other people’s bodies.”

This also let Liora understand that Marquis Lavender had not revealed everything to his son, Edric. Otherwise, there would be no reason for the existence of this Bloodline Seed.

”But this also makes sense. The experiment of the researchers has already been successful. If the Marquis really needed to, he could have grafted those substances onto himself and enhanced his talent long ago.”

”He wouldn’t have waited until now.”

Liora understood that there was likely something that she didn’t know, something that had not been mentioned in the previous diary nor spoken about by the Marquis.

Fortunately, there was someone here who might help her understand.

Thinking of this, Liora turned her eyes to the unconscious, robed woman.
