Chapter 314 Confusion

”What the hell was that, Ross?!” Gwen was the first to react, her voice sharp with disbelief. She couldn’t wrap her head around what she had just witnessed.

Sure, she’d always known something was unusual about Ross—his seeming invulnerability to physical attacks had made that clear.

But this?

Summoning a portal to God-knows-where right in the middle of the room?

That was a level of absurdity straight out of a sci-fi movie. And this wasn’t some fiction. This was the real world.

Maya, on the other hand, stayed silent. She’d seen Ross perform unbelievable feats before, like incapacitating an entire legion of men and leaving them bound and helpless during the hotel basement massacre.

To her, it was easier to believe that Ross possessed advanced technology far beyond anything available to the public.

Clinging to this explanation kept her anchored to reality—entertaining any other possibilities might push her toward madness.

”That was fun, Gwen. Don’t you think?” Althea’s voice cut through the tension answering for her beloved man, revealing a side of her that was both unnerving and unfamiliar.

A crazed bloodlust glinted in her eyes, which now glowed an otherworldly shade of blood-red. Both Gwen and Maya froze, their skin prickling as goosebumps erupted over their bodies.

It wasn’t just Ross who had secrets. Sweet, talented actress Althea, whom they had trusted implicitly, was hiding something monumental.

They recalled her effortlessly conjuring magical knives out of thin air, the blades slicing through flesh—and more—with terrifying ease.

Both women silently resolved never to cross Althea, just as they had learned not to cross Ross.

”Let’s talk about this later,” Ross said, his tone sharp and commanding. ”And remember, don’t let any of the girls know what happened here.”

Maya and Gwen exchanged uneasy glances, swallowing hard at the weight of his words. This wasn’t the same loving, playful Ross who pampered them unconditionally every day.

This was the man who had dominated them on their first night together—a man whose authority brooked no argument.

”What about her?” Maya asked, nodding toward the young, beautiful woman cradled in Ross’s arms.

”Her?” Ross smiled, his gaze softening as it fell on Jessica’s angelic face.

”I’ll take care of her. She won’t say a word. Trust me.”

Unbeknownst to Jessica, tonight’s events had drawn her into the thrilling, dangerous orbit of Ross Oakley’s extraordinary life.

Five minutes later, Ross rejoined his group, his imposing presence immediately drawing their attention.

”Oh? What’ve you got there, big boy?” Natalie quipped, her tone playful as her eyes landed on the unconscious young woman in his arms.

”She fell. I caught her. That’s the short story,” Ross replied with a wry smile.

”The long story? Althea’s got that covered—she’s the actress here, remember?” His casual humor was met with a few raised eyebrows, but no one pressed further.

Jessica should have woken up by now, but Ross had deliberately kept her asleep. He didn’t want her waking up in a panic and causing a scene that would attract unwanted attention.

For now, it was better this way.

As the group made their way back to the hotel where the girls were staying, Althea began spinning a tale that could have come straight out of a blockbuster script.

According to her, Ross had entered a high-stakes poker game, not only winning a substantial fortune but also rescuing Jessica from the clutches of a deranged, drug-addicted crime lord.

Her delivery was flawless—poised, convincing, and peppered with just the right amount of drama.

Maya and Gwen supported the narrative, nodding solemnly and adding small details to make the story even more believable. The other girls in the group, wide-eyed and captivated, hung onto every word.

By the time they reached the hotel, the fictionalized version of events had become gospel among them.

Once inside, Ross carried Jessica to a private room and gently laid her on the bed.

The others knew better than to follow, sensing that whatever happened next was something Ross preferred to handle alone.

”Hmmm…” Jessica stirred moments later, groaning softly as her hand moved to her temple. Her head throbbed with a splitting headache, and she blinked, trying to orient herself.

At first, her surroundings were unfamiliar, but then the night’s horrifying events came rushing back—the blood splatters, the severed arm lying grotesquely on the floor, and the masked men who had been brutalized in unspeakable ways.

Her heart raced, and she sucked in a sharp breath, ready to scream in terror.

”Calm down,” a voice commanded, firm yet calm.

Jessica froze, the scream catching in her throat. Her wide eyes darted toward the source of the voice.

A man sat a few feet away, casually holding a glass of wine. His hair was short and jet-black, neatly styled, but his face was unremarkable—plain, almost forgettable. Stay updated through .Côm

His physique, however, was anything but. Bulky and muscular, he exuded a primal strength that made it clear he wasn’t someone to be trifled with.

Yet it was his eyes that truly captivated her. They were sharp and intense, radiating a confidence that bordered on unnerving.

”You…” she began hesitantly. ”What happened back there? The men in the casino—was that real?” Her voice was soft and trembling, as though afraid that asking would summon those memories back to life.

”It’s real,” Ross replied, his half-smile not quite reaching his eyes. He downed the rest of his wine in one smooth motion, the faint clink of the glass against the table punctuating his statement.

”As real as anything can be in this world.”

Jessica’s breath hitched. She drew her knees to her chest, her trembling hands clutching the bedspread tightly.

”That was horrible,” she whispered, her voice barely audible.

”I know,” Ross said simply, his tone devoid of sympathy.

”And it’s good that you know. You’ve seen firsthand what I do to my enemies.” He leaned back in his chair, his gaze unwavering.

”And as for the poker game against Mr. Adams—the wager still stands. I won.”

Jessica’s wide eyes darted to his, confusion and fear mingling on her face.

”That means I won you, too,” Ross continued, his voice steady, unyielding. ”You’re mine now, Jessica Smith. I own you.”

The weight of his words hung in the air, pressing down on her like a physical force. For a moment, she could do nothing but stare, her mind struggling to process what he’d just said.

”I…” Her voice faltered as a thousand questions raced through her head. Who was this man? What did he want with her? And what did ”owning” her even mean?

Jessica tried very hard, finally recalling why she had come to Mr. Adams tonight. The thought sent a shiver down her spine.
