Divine Level Witch Doctor

Zhao Ling turned to look and saw three girls walking toward her, sizing her up as they came.

These three girls were Zhao Ling’s classmates. The one in the middle, dressed so maturely she hardly looked like a student, was Cao Jing. The other two had similar styles; one was Ma Hui, and the other was Sun Tian. Both were Cao Jing’s lackeys.

The trio disliked studying, only caring about competing over their clothes and outfits. They had always looked down on Zhao Ling, who came from a poor family and dressed plainly. But when they arrived at school today, they saw Zhao Ling in a beautiful new set of clothes, dressed just like a little princess. Annoyance and jealousy instantly welled up inside them.

Walking up to Zhao Ling, Ma Hui looked her up and down before sneering, ”That outfit looks pretty enough, I guess. I just wonder how much it cost.”

Sun Tian scoffed. ”What kind of expensive clothes could Zhao Ling possibly afford? If you ask me, she either bought this at a night market or dug it out of a flea market. The whole outfit, head to toe, couldn’t be more than two hundred yuan, tops.”

Ma Hui immediately burst out laughing. ”Two hundred yuan? That’s pathetic! Any single new thing I buy costs over a thousand, you know.”

Sun Tian chimed in, ”Huihui, how could Zhao Ling possibly compare to you? For her, wearing something that costs a couple hundred yuan is already a huge luxury. Have you forgotten? The clothes she used to wear were as dowdy as it gets, probably hand-me-downs some old auntie didn’t want anymore.”

Hearing their mockery, Zhao Ling lowered her head. Not wanting to deal with them, she turned to leave.

However, Cao Jing, who had been silent the whole time, suddenly called out to stop her. She darted in front of Zhao Ling and reached out to touch the fabric of her outfit. Her expression was one of utter shock as she asked in a trembling voice, ”You... this outfit... where did you get it?”

Zhao Ling was taken aback for a moment. ”My brother bought it for me. Why?”

Cao Jing exclaimed, ”Why? You’re asking me why? This whole outfit, from head to toe, has to cost seventy or eighty thousand, at the very least! Where in the world did your brother get the money to buy something so expensive?”

Her words didn’t just startle Zhao Ling; they were enough to completely floor Ma Hui and Sun Tian as well.

”H-How much?”

”What? Seventy or eighty thousand? Sister Jing, did you say that wrong, or are my ears playing tricks on me?”

Cao Jing pointed to the brand label on Zhao Ling’s clothes. ”See for yourselves what brand this is. They don’t make anything that costs less than thirty thousand yuan! My guess of seventy or eighty thousand was a lowball estimate. This whole outfit might even be over a hundred thousand!”

Ma Hui and Sun Tian were no strangers to fashion magazines, so of course, they recognized the brand.

”Oh my god, that’s a top-tier luxury brand from Europe and America!”

”I remember now! I saw this outfit in a magazine. The price tag was something like sixty-thousand-plus...”

Ma Hui and Sun Tian were stunned. They never imagined that just moments after declaring Zhao Ling couldn’t afford expensive clothes, they would be so thoroughly proven wrong.

This was a luxury brand they could only dream of owning but couldn’t possibly afford!

Even in their shock, they couldn’t bring themselves to believe that the perpetually poor Zhao Ling could be wearing something so fine.

”It has to be a knockoff!”

”Right, it must be a replica!”

Ma Hui and Sun Tian scrambled to discredit her.

This time, however, Cao Jing didn’t side with them. She shook her head and said, ”It can’t be fake. The fabric, the texture, the craftsmanship... it’s absolutely authentic!”

Zhao Ling finally snapped out of her shock. Recalling how her brother could casually produce two hundred thousand yuan, she was certain the clothes she was wearing couldn’t possibly be replicas.

She puffed out her chest, lifted her chin, and said proudly, ”My brother bought these for me, and they’re absolutely authentic! My brother is rich now, you know. He didn’t just partner up to open a pharmaceutical factory in Rongcheng City; he’s also building a Traditional Chinese Medicine cultivation base in our village. Our family’s fortunes are only going to get better and better from now on!”

While other people relied on their parents’ status, Zhao Ling, this time, was relying on her brother.

Cao Jing and the other two were dumbfounded, their mouths agape.

”Oh my god, your brother really struck it rich?”

”Opening a pharmaceutical factory and building a cultivation base? Wow, your brother’s a big-shot boss now! No wonder he can buy you such expensive clothes!”

”Your brother really dotes on you, buying you something so expensive.”

Hearing the three girls’ envious words, Zhao Ling lifted her chin even higher.

Suddenly, Cao Jing said, ”Hey, Zhao Ling, does your brother have a girlfriend? How about you do me a favor and introduce us?”

”Introduce me, too!” Ma Hui and Sun Tian added, their faces full of expectation.

”Sorry, my brother would never be interested in you.” Zhao Ling tossed this sentence over her shoulder, turned her back on them, and strode toward her classroom.

In that moment, Zhao Ling was no longer the insecure ugly duckling of the past but had transformed into a proud little princess.

Zhao Yuan had no idea what his sister had experienced at school. If he had known, he would have been overjoyed.

What was the point of life, if not to give your family a better life? He had now, at least, taken the first step.

After the New Year’s holiday, the students all got busy preparing for the upcoming final exams.

Compared to the students who were cramming at the last minute, Zhao Yuan was much calmer. At his current level, the final exams would be a breeze.

The teachers, however, were wrestling with a problem. The faculty of the Basic Theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine department even held a special meeting to discuss it.

Given Zhao Yuan’s skill, he didn’t need to take the exam at all, but the teachers still hoped he would. After all, ”The Man Who Wants to Be a Witch Doctor” hadn’t appeared on the school forums recently—little did they know, this was simply because Zhao Yuan had been too busy and hadn’t had time to go online.

In the teachers’ eyes, if the Great God of Witch Doctor wasn’t going to solve any problems, then they might as well have Zhao Yuan solve them.

That being the case, the questions couldn’t be too simple. But if they made the test too difficult, they feared the other students wouldn’t be able to answer anything.

In the end, the teachers unanimously decided to simply create a separate, unique exam just for Zhao Yuan. On that test, instead of standard questions, they would list the difficult problems they themselves had encountered over the years in the Basic Theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine and see how Zhao Yuan would answer them.

If his answers were good, not only would they benefit, but the answers could also be compiled into a paper and submitted to a medical journal for publication.

It wasn’t just the Basic Theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine department that had this idea; the professors for Medical Ancient Texts were planning to do the same.

As for the professors of subjects like Traditional Chinese Medicine Diagnosis and Acupuncture, since their courses weren’t offered in the first semester of the freshman year, they could only watch their colleagues from Basic Theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Medical Ancient Texts have all the fun. They secretly vowed to themselves, ’When Zhao Yuan finally takes our classes, we’re definitely going to do the same thing!’

On his third day back at school, Zhao Yuan received a call from two medicinal herb cultivation experts. Their voices were filled with excitement.
