Divine Level Witch Doctor

Zhao Yuan didn’t have time to answer them. After pulling out the branch, he immediately started cleaning the wound.

With a towel in his left hand, he periodically wiped away the gushing blood. With his right, he picked up a pair of stone tweezers and swiftly removed the remaining splinters from the wound. Then, using a Stone Blade, he carved out the necrotic and rotten flesh.

Zhao Yuan’s movements throughout the entire process were fast, precise, and steady, thoroughly stunning Deng Chang and the other two.

Deng Chang was especially shocked. He had originally planned to be the lead surgeon for Feng Ming’s operation, with Yang Li and Wu Mei as his assistants, while Zhao Yuan would just help out on the side.

But now he discovered that this medical student, whom he had initially dismissed, possessed such profound medical skill! The feeling was like watching a random NPC suddenly transform into the final boss—it was freaking terrifying!

Deng Chang had to admit to himself that if their roles were reversed, there was no way he could have performed as well as Zhao Yuan.

He couldn’t help but marvel, ”Who on earth is this kid? Is he really just a medical student? Not some old hand who’s been a clinical surgeon for years?”

After cleaning the wound, Zhao Yuan prepared to suture the damaged femoral artery.

He looked up at Deng Chang, Yang Li, and Wu Mei, who were standing there dumbfounded, and said, ”What are you gawking at? Get over here and help!”

Before, Deng Chang and the others would never have listened to an order from Zhao Yuan. But now, they obediently complied.

The three of them quickly gathered around the crude operating table.

Zhao Yuan instructed Yang Li, ”You’re in charge of wiping away the blood flowing from the wound.”

”Right!” Yang Li responded. She took the towel Shen Lijun handed her and began wiping the blood from the wound to give Zhao Yuan a better field of vision.

Zhao Yuan then told Wu Mei, ”You’ll be handing me the instruments.”

”Leave it to me.” Wu Mei moved next to the surgical tools and stood at the ready, waiting for Zhao Yuan’s command.

”What about me? What should I do?” Deng Chang asked hurriedly.

Zhao Yuan instructed, ”You’ll assist me with the rest of the surgery. Here, start by using the clamps to retract the skin and muscle around the wound.”

”Alright!” Deng Chang quickly got to work. He wasn’t used to the stone instruments, but to his surprise, he found they were unexpectedly easy to handle—far better than the stainless steel tools he was accustomed to.

”What’s going on?” Deng Chang was amazed. Little did he know this set of surgical tools was made from Spirit Medicine Stone and was a treasure of the Magic Artifact Level. It allowed the user to handle them with perfect dexterity, as if they were an extension of their own arms.

With three assistants, Zhao Yuan’s work sped up considerably.

Blood continued to pour from the wound, severely obscuring his vision. But with the help of his Qi Observation Technique, he quickly located the damaged section of the femoral artery and pulled it out with a Stone Clamp.

After carefully and meticulously repairing the damaged artery with the Stone Scissors, Zhao Yuan took out several slender stone needles, threaded them, and began suturing.

There were no surgical sutures available, so he had to make do with ordinary thread. However, Zhao Yuan had infused the thread with his Qi to minimize the risk of tissue rejection.

Zhao Yuan’s suturing was swift and steady, filling Deng Chang with admiration. He sighed inwardly, ’This isn’t surgery. It’s art!’

After a period of intense work, the damaged femoral artery was repaired. The incessant flow of blood finally stopped.

”Success!” Deng Chang exclaimed, his voice trembling. Even though he had witnessed the entire procedure with his own eyes, he still found it hard to believe.

Repairing a femoral artery is difficult enough under normal circumstances, let alone in such crude and adverse conditions! That the surgery was a success was nothing short of a miracle. Moreover, Zhao Yuan’s work wasn’t just a simple success—to describe it with the word ’perfect’ would be no exaggeration at all.

The people waiting outside the house heard Deng Chang and instantly grew excited.

”What did he just say? The surgery was a success! I... I didn’t mishear that, did I?” Feng Ming’s father trembled with excitement.

A villager beside him immediately said, ”You heard right. I heard it too! He said the surgery was a success!”

Feng Ming’s mother was so emotional that tears streamed down her face. She kept repeating, ”It was a success! This is wonderful! Thank the Divine Spirits for their protection!”

Deng Chang’s companions were also overjoyed, muttering amongst themselves, ”I didn’t think Old Deng was that good. He actually pulled off such a difficult operation!”

None of them had been allowed inside, so they had no idea what had actually transpired and assumed Deng Chang had performed the surgery.

Inside, everyone was beaming with joy—everyone except Zhao Yuan.

He said, ”Don’t celebrate yet. Calm down. The surgery isn’t over.”

Deng Chang looked surprised and confused. ”The femoral artery is repaired. The hardest part is over. All that’s left is to close the wound. There’s no difficulty or danger anymore.”

Zhao Yuan replied, ”There are thrombi in the femoral artery, formed when the arterial intima was torn. If we don’t remove them and they end up blocking the artery, it will cause necrosis in his lower limb!”

”What?” Deng Chang was stunned. He was well aware of the dangers of thrombosis. Frowning, he asked, ”Then why were you in such a rush to suture the artery? Why not aspirate the thrombi first?”

Zhao Yuan answered, ”Feng Ming’s blood loss was severe. If I hadn’t sutured his femoral artery immediately, his life would have been in danger. Besides, we don’t have a thrombus aspiration catheter. Even if I hadn’t repaired the vessel, we wouldn’t have been able to aspirate the thrombi because they’re located further down. Of course, the most important reason is that I have another, better way to get them out.”

”What method?” Deng Chang asked eagerly. In that moment, he was like an eager student seeking knowledge from a teacher.

This ”teacher,” Zhao Yuan, didn’t keep him in suspense. He took out several Golden Needles.

A Sharp Needle, also known as a Triangular Needle, is generally used for bloodletting. Zhao Yuan intended to use them to pierce the femoral artery and expel the thrombi!

Deng Chang recognized the Triangular Needle and was astonished. ”Isn’t that a needle from Traditional Chinese Medicine, used in Acupuncture for bloodletting to treat fevers and carbuncles? It can be used to remove thrombi?”

Zhao Yuan replied, ”For anyone else, it would be impossible. But for me, it is.”

At first glance, that sounded incredibly arrogant.

In reality, however, Zhao Yuan was simply stating a fact. An ordinary person couldn’t locate a thrombus from outside the body; they would have to insert a thrombus aspiration catheter into the blood vessel to clear it. But Zhao Yuan was different. He had the Qi Observation Technique. He could see exactly where the thrombi were in Feng Ming’s body with a single glance.
