Chapter 1044: Asking for Permission

Still seated between Kaiden’s knees on the bench in his room, Yunohana glanced toward the door Nyx had closed behind herself.

His five women were somewhere beyond it. She would have to look them in the eyes and explain why she wanted to borrow their man.

”When should we speak with them?”

Kaiden followed her gaze.

”How about now?”

”!!”

Yunohana twisted toward him, clutching the front of her robe to her chest.

”Now? I have only just agreed!”

”I know.”

”I need to prepare myself mentally. There are five of them. Five women who love you very much, whom I must somehow ask to allow me to...”

She looked down at his hands resting over her robe.

”Oh, this is terribly improper.”

Kaiden eased his arm away so she could turn more comfortably.

”We could ask tonight, get some sleep, and spend tomorrow together. We’re both going to need a day to recover anyway. I thought we might enjoy it.”

Yunohana considered that with her lips pressed together.

She could spend an entire day with him as the woman he wanted to court. She could look forward to his attention, choose somewhere she wanted to take him, and know he was coming because he wanted to be with her.

The prospect made her happy enough to frighten her.

”Tomorrow is very soon,” she whispered.

”We could leave it until later,” he offered.

Yunohana considered the escape he was offering. She could find a perfectly respectable responsibility to hide behind tomorrow, and another the day after that.

”No.”

Kaiden waited while she shook her head.

”That would be me chickening out.”

His mouth twitched at her choice of words.

”I’d hate to interfere with your duties.”

”You have been doing so since you arrived. I believe I can spare you one more day.”

Kaiden raised an eyebrow, grinning. ”Eh? What happened to my amazing hostess who’s been treating me like a god since I arrived?”

Yunohana’s anxiety shifted into slyness. ”You were my honorable guest until now. Now, you’re a man trying to court me.”

”Ah.” Kaiden sighed. ”So my pampering rights have suddenly disappeared.”

Yunohana giggled at that, then tilted her head. ”I’m getting mixed signals over here. Are you interested in me as a woman or as a gentle caretaker?”

Kaiden wasted no time. He stared deep into her eyes and decreed, ”Both. Both is good.”

The shrine maiden’s eyes widened as a little yelp left her lungs. ”I’m not sure I understand...”

Kaiden’s eyes held zero uncertainty as he replied. ”I wish to pursue you, a mature yet delicate woman, romantically so that, among other things, you can pamper me.”

Then his confidence receded, the relaxed Kaiden returning with a soft smile. ”Of course, I’d also pamper you in return. If things work out, you’d be treated as any of the other five lovers of mine, meaning I’d dedicate my everything to you.

”You don’t have to worry about me becoming a deadbeat loser that wants you to do everything for him.”

”...” The Japanese milf was lost for words. ”That’s very straightforward... In this country we approach romance rather differently.”

”Well... It came up and I didn’t want to lie to you.” Kaiden shrugged.

”I see... It came up, hm?” Yunohana smiled despite the nervous flutter in her stomach.

Tomorrow, she would have him to herself. She wanted that far too much to let him offer her another way out.

Yunohana drew her robe over her right shoulder, then carefully worked her sore arm into the other sleeve. Kaiden helped lift the fabric behind her, keeping it clear of the tender spot.

”Thank you,” she murmured, fastening the robe.

He offered his hand as she turned and brought her feet to the floor. She accepted it, stood beside the bench, and faced him with all the seriousness she could gather.

”I shall ask your wives for their blessing tonight, and tomorrow I shall go on a date with you should they permit me to.”

Her cheeks were soft pink.

Kaiden was suddenly faced with an overwhelming urge to kiss them. The determination on her face made it very difficult to remember that they still had an important conversation to get through first.

But he held his instincts back, instead standing with her. Yunohana immediately reached for his arm.

”Careful.”

”I am.”

”Are you?” She gave him a reproachful look.

”Sometimes.”

”...” Yunohana kept hold of his arm as they approached the door together.

...

Outside his room, Aria crossed the adjoining sitting room with a towel draped over her shoulders. The damp ends of her silver hair clung to her clean robe. She was still tying its sash when Nyx stepped in front of Kaiden’s door.

”Oh, yandere bestie. How was the bath?”

”Lovely. How is Kai?”

”Much better. I checked on him for Rook.”

”Good.” Aria smiled in relief and reached past her for the door. Nyx caught her hand between both of hers.

”Would you like some tea first?”

”I’ll have it with him.”

”He’s resting.”

Aria looked at Nyx, whose smile remained beautifully composed.

”He can rest while I’m sitting next to him. I won’t make a single sound.”

Aria tried to step around her, but Nyx moved with her, still holding her hand.

The Moon Valkyrie’s gaze turned ice cold. ”Nyx Cosmos. Explain yourself.”

”Uh... I’m testing your patience.”

Aria’s eyes narrowed into dangerous slits. ”I have failed your test, for I have zero patience when Kai is out of my sight. Now let me through.”

Behind them, Luna emerged from the passage to the bathing rooms, rubbing a towel over her purple hair.

”What’s Fatty doing?”

”She won’t let me see Kai.”

”Her hair is wet,” Nyx explained.

Aria looked down at the towel covering her shoulders, then back at her friend.

”And?”

”We should dry off before getting his bedding wet.”

”I wasn’t going to roll on his bed! Stop with the excuses and let me through!” Aria truly wasn’t the queen of patience in such situations.

Luna lowered her towel, looking from Nyx’s grip on Aria’s hand to the closed door. A grin spread across her face.

”Hang on. Miss Milf’s still in there, isn’t she?”

”She’s taking very good care of him,” Nyx purred.

”Nyx.”

Aria’s sweet voice made Luna start giggling. Calypso and Bastet arrived behind her in fresh clothes, the feline still squeezing water from the end of her tail with a towel.

”Could I please see my boyfriend?” Aria asked.

”Of course, bestie. I was only suggesting that we give them another little-”

Kaiden opened the door behind Nyx. She released Aria’s hand as she turned, and the Moon Valkyrie slipped past her at once.

”Kai? Are you feeling better?”

”Much better,” he assured her.

Yunohana stood beside him with a hand around his arm. Aria’s gaze moved over his face before she finally relaxed, touching his free hand with hers.

”You look better.”

”I’ve had excellent care.”

Luna leaned around Nyx to inspect the pair, her towel hanging forgotten from one hand.

”Wasn’t he supposed to stay in bed? Our patient escaped.”

”With his sitter’s permission,” Kaiden said.

Yunohana released his arm, although she regretted doing so as soon as the women turned their attention to her.

”May we speak with you?”

Alexandra came in with fresh tea while Aria guided Kaiden toward the low table. Nyx stepped away from the doorway to let Yunohana follow, smiling at her until the shrine maiden had to look elsewhere.

Kaiden sat with Aria beside him while the others gathered around them, shedding towels onto an empty chair. Alexandra poured the tea, and Aria moved a spare cushion closer to her own.

”Of course. Would you like to sit?”

”Thank you. I believe I would prefer to stand for this.”

Nyx lowered her cup. Her gaze traveled from Yunohana’s blushing face to Kaiden, and a thoroughly pleased smile spread across her lips.

”Oh?”

Yunohana suddenly wished she had sat down.

”I have a rather personal request. I had hoped to prepare a little speech, but this ruthless man insisted on coming immediately.”

”What? I offered to wait.”

”Yes, after putting the idea in my head.”

”Bending facts like that to suit your agenda...” Kaiden shook his head. ”Women.”

”Excuse me?” Yunohana didn’t seem to find his statement amusing. Neither did any other woman present in the room, evidenced by the flat glances boring into his very soul.

”Anyhow. I asked Yunohana on a date.”

Luna stared at him.

”What the fuck?”

Yunohana’s fingers caught in the folds of her sleeves.

”Only with your permission,” she added quickly. ”All of you. I would never wish to cause any unhappiness between you.”

”We left you alone to sit down for a few minutes!” Luna looked between them in disbelief. ”How did sitting down turn into this?!”

”I’m shocked myself. But here we are,” Kaiden offered.
