Death… And Me

Chapter 4337: Contingence

Arcis instinctively took several steps back. For a brief instant, the sight of Tobao’s furious expression genuinely frightened him.

”Wh-What happened?!” Arcis blurted out. ”You scared the shit out of me for a second there!”

Tobao quickly noticed he had momentarily lost control of his emotions. Taking a deep breath, he forcefully calmed himself down. Even so, he didn’t answer Arcis immediately. Instead, he continued speaking with Rean through the RC.

-Are you absolutely certain about this?- Tobao asked in a grave tone.

Rean confirmed without hesitation.

-Yes, we’re certain. What we can’t guarantee is whether those Godly Horrors truly intend to attack Besgol or not. Still, if you ask me, it feels far too suspicious for so many of them to be gathered only four hours away from the region.-

He then corrected himself.

-No... that’s only based on Kentucky’s current speed. Creatures at that level could probably reach Besgol in an hour if they moved seriously.-

Now that Tobao had regained part of his composure, several questions immediately surfaced in his mind.

-First of all, how did Roan and Kentucky even discover this?- Tobao asked. -Creatures of that level should have killed them the moment they entered the range of their senses.-

Rean casually shrugged despite the seriousness of the situation.

-What else could it be? My airplane couldn’t be used anymore, but during the previous days, I at least managed to make the Godly Pressure Array somewhat functional without attaching it to the aircraft itself. Roan and Kentucky used it directly to disguise themselves while scouting the territory.-

He then added another explanation.

-Well, that’s also why it took them so long to contact us. That thing is extremely heavy and difficult to manipulate without the airplane. Honestly, if Roan hadn’t insisted on going personally, I wouldn’t even have handed it over to them in the first place.-

Naturally, that entire explanation was a lie.

The twins’ group had absolutely no need for such arrays while operating independently. Their cultivation technique alone already solved the issue perfectly.

However, there was no way they could reveal the truth.

Tobao accepted the explanation for now before moving to the next issue.

-Then how did Roan even suspect something was wrong to begin with?- he asked.

This time, Rean repeated the same explanation Roan had previously given Huriu before departing.

He explained the issue regarding the Three-Eyed Raven, the explosive arrays, and the absurd coincidence surrounding the Raven being injured for the very first time in the recorded history of the last ten thousand years.

-And that’s why Roan and Kentucky went out to verify whether Roan was simply overthinking things or not,- Rean concluded.

Tobao narrowed his eyes afterward.

At the same time, he contacted someone else through another RC channel in parallel to confirm the information regarding the Three-Eyed Raven’s historical records.

Sure enough...

Not even once had the Raven ever been injured by explosive arrays before.

After confirming that, Tobao could only accept Roan’s reasoning.

-You did very well to notice such a detail,- Tobao admitted sincerely. -As for this special connection between you and your brother... I will investigate that matter another time.-

Rean immediately made a request afterward.

-Senior Tobao, we never intended to reveal the existence of this connection between Roan and me. The situation is simply too dangerous this time, which is why we decided to trust you with this information. I hope you won’t spread it around unnecessarily.-

Tobao nodded slightly.

-I understand. That kind of ability is indeed not something you should casually reveal to others. Naturally, I will have to inform Arcis about it, but you don’t need to worry. Arcis will never reveal this information unless you somehow become his enemy one day.-

-Thank you,- Rean answered while secretly sighing in relief.

Of course, whether Tobao truly meant those words or not would only become clear with time.

Rean quickly moved on afterward.

-Anyway, Roan and Kentucky are already returning as fast as possible. They’re taking a longer route to avoid getting caught from behind if those Godly Horrors begin moving. At this point, it’s up to you whether you believe us or not. None of us possesses the strength necessary to deal with creatures at the level of Godly Horrors.-

His tone then became heavier.

-And with Senior’s experience, I’m sure you can already connect the other suspicious events surrounding all this as well.-

Before Tobao could answer anything else, Rean ended the call.

Even so, Tobao’s expression remained incomparably ugly while he slowly turned to look toward Arcis standing nearby.

Naturally, Arcis was still full of questions.

”Alright, can you explain now what the hell is going on?” he asked immediately. ”Did you discover something about the Godly Horror we’re fighting or what?”

Tobao released a long sigh before transmitting everything directly through his Celestial Sense.

As expected, Arcis became even more shocked than Tobao himself.

”Th-That can’t be real...” Arcis muttered in disbelief. ”Nine Godly Horrors? And that’s only the number they confirmed? There could easily be two or three times more than that?”

Tobao remained silent afterward.

Because the Godly Horrors themselves weren’t even the most terrifying part of the situation.

The true problem was what their existence implied.

Godly Horrors from completely different races should never gather together peacefully like that. They didn’t possess the intelligence required for coordination or cooperation.

And yet...

If Roan and Kentucky were truly correct, then something had to be controlling them from the shadows.

Little by little, all the scattered pieces finally began fitting together.

First came the dead man who was controlled like a puppet through unknown means.

Then came the impossible injury suffered by the Three-Eyed Raven.

Afterward, the Sacred Relic’s power returned to normal levels by their own orders.

And now...

There was also the Godly Horror they were currently fighting.

The more Tobao thought about it, the less that creature resembled a mindless beast. Its actions felt far too calculated, far too deliberate.

Perhaps it was also being controlled somehow.

Maybe through methods similar to the puppet from before.

At that point, an increasingly horrifying possibility became impossible to ignore.

Could there truly be a Level Six or perhaps even a Level Seven Godly Creature manipulating everything from behind the scenes? A Godly Tyrant or worse, a Godly Colossus, was not something they could do anything against.

The more Tobao connected the clues, the more plausible that theory became.

Finally, Tobao made a decision.

”Arcis,” he called out seriously. ”Stay here and continue holding that Godly Horror back as much as possible.”

Arcis immediately noticed the implication behind those words.

”Where are you going?” he asked.

”To the Sacred Relic.”

The moment Tobao said that, Arcis instantly understood his thoughts.

”I see...” Arcis muttered while narrowing his eyes. ”You’re right. We can use that to our advantage.”

Without wasting another second, Tobao immediately turned around and shot toward the mainland at full speed.

Meanwhile, back on Rean and Celis’s side, there wasn’t much they could do for the moment.

The two simply remained at the military base alongside the remaining cultivators still stationed there.

Naturally, most of their attention remained focused on Roan and Kentucky through the soul connection.

’I already informed Tobao about everything,’ Rean commented internally.

Roan nodded from afar. ’The rest depends entirely on them now.’

At that exact moment, Rean suddenly received another message through his RC.

After reading it, he informed the others. ’That’s strange. Tobao is asking me to meet him directly at the Sacred Relic.’

Even Rean himself looked surprised afterward. ’I don’t think someone at my level should even possess the authority necessary to approach a place like that.’

Roan didn’t seem concerned at all.

’Just go,’ he answered calmly. ’With Tobao personally summoning you, nobody will stop you anyway.’

He then narrowed his eyes slightly. ’More importantly, find out what exactly they are planning.’
