Death… And Me

Chapter 3889: What Are You Doing There?

Once back into her accommodations, Wisfreya had her attention split between the complaints from Hufus and the Divine Sense Messages from the twins.

”So you see, try to not disappear like that. I don’t know why we couldn’t see you in that room, but at least you seem to be fine. We have poured a lot of resources into bringing you up to this level, you know?” Hufus continued his argument.

Wisfreya kept agreeing with him. ”Yes, Senior Hufus. I truly didn’t know I could disappear there.”

At the same time, Roan was talking to her. The place she was at the moment had formations that prevented Divine Senses from reaching this place. Too bad it would never be able to stop Sister Orb’s hacking capabilities.

’Alright, so here’s the deal. I’m sure the Verjansy Country offered you a lot of things in exchange for your bloodline and loyalty, right? Well, we can offer you much more. On top of that, we only need you for a few decades. In the worst case, a hundred years or so.’

Wisfreya couldn’t help but take a deep breath. ’Just a few decades? Maybe a hundred years or so? I’m only seventeen! Do you have any idea how long it looks in my eyes?!’

’Hum... I guess it makes sense,’ Roan forgot the difference in experience for a moment. ’However, this is still a great deal for you. Even if it takes a hundred years, you will get absolute freedom afterwards. In the deal you have with the Verjansy Country Government, you will probably have to stay with them for much, much longer than that. Not to mention, there is also the case of sharing your bloodline.’

Wisfreya was taken aback. ’Wait! How do you know about that?! Was Rean also able to check the contents of the Soul Binding Contract when he cracked the seal?’

Rean joined that conversation. ’Of course not! What do you think I am? A god? First of all, the seals left by the Soul Binding Contracts don’t work in that way. It’s not like you can just pull out the seal and check the contract terms. There is nothing written in them.’

’But then...’ Wisfreya got curious. ’Then how did you find out? Only three people know about that part of the contract for safety’s sake.’

’It wasn’t hard to guess, idiot,’ Roan answered. ’Such an unbelievably powerful bloodline like yours, from a race that doesn’t exist in the entire A1 Universe. Any government that isn’t operated by idiots would require you to have several children for the sake of the country.’

’I see...’ Wisfreya nodded. ’Well, I don’t mind this part too much. After all, it won’t be me who will bear them and such. They will just harvest my eggs for a few years and then wait for the most optimal candidates before fertilizing them. The Verjansy Country is basically waiting for me to mature a little more before starting it.’

If even Earth had the means to harvest and fertilize human eggs in controlled environments, what can one say of such a much more advanced society like this one? They obviously could do the same thing, and with a much higher success rate as well.

Roan approved the country’s approach. ’Verjansy Country truly knows what it is doing.’

Rean wasn’t as satisfied. ’Are you truly okay with it? I mean, even if you won’t get pregnant and such, the kids that will come out of it are still your kids.’

Wisfreya was adamant. ’I don’t know you guys, but I’m not that sentimental towards this kind of stuff. My absolute aim is to cultivate and reach the Divinity Realm one day. I’m not even sure if I will ever be interested in having children of my own in the future.’

Roan quite liked the girl. ’That is a very good mindset. No wonder you managed to reach this level, even if you have the help of your bloodline.’

’Sigh...’ Rean shrugged and didn’t insist on that topic anymore. That was ultimately her decision, after all. ’Just to be sure, were you forced to take these decisions? Or maybe coerced into it when you were young? The Soul Binding Contract is gone, so you can talk without reservation.’

’No!’ Wisfreya didn’t think twice before answering that. ’If anything, the Verjansy Country was very good to me from the very start. I won’t say that everything is a sea of flowers, but the Verjansy Country is definitely a power worthy of siding with. That’s my own opinion, even now that I’m almost eighteen.’

’Well, I have no complaints anymore, then.’ Rean ended there.

Roan did the same. ’She is fine indeed.’

Wisfreya couldn’t help but ask. ’Haven’t you two forgotten something?’

’Hum?’ Rean and Roan thought about it. ’Did we?’

Wisfreya didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. ’YOU STILL HAVEN’T TOLD WHAT THE HELL YOU WANT FROM ME!’

’Ohhh!!!’ Indeed, they talked a lot, offered a deal for her to come with them, but they didn’t tell her what she needed to do at all. ’Ahem... we need both your bloodline and your soul.’

’So...Soul and bloodline?’ Wisfreya felt a chill running through her spine. ’Do you want me to sacrifice for you?!’

’Of course not!’ Rean realized he needed to provide the girl with more detailed information. ’Alright, here is what we need.’

Then, while leaving the system’s existence out of the conversation, Rean told her how he intended to harvest her bloodline and soul over time without causing any damage to her abilities. Of course, Rean also gave Wisfreya a complete and detailed explanation of everything she would gain and the restrictions that would be applied during that time.

The resources, the life in a Pocket Dimensional Realm, the new cultivation technique tailored only for her, and so on. There were many good things, but also some not-so-good ones. ’And that’s the gist of it. So, there is no need to worry. Not only will you grow much stronger while with us during these decades, but you will also be completely safe.’

’Saying you want to cut pieces of my soul is not exactly what I would call safe...’ Wisfreya answered.

’In the end, I can only prove it to you by showing how it works,’ Rean already expected that. ’But before I do any of that, it is up to you to accept the deal or not.’

’And if I refuse?’ Wisfreya asked once again.

’Then the deal is off,’ Roan answered this time. ’I told you. If you refuse, we won’t take any action. Carry on with your life and pretend we never existed. We want you because you’ll help us reduce the workload. That doesn’t mean we can’t proceed with our own plans without you. It is that simple.’

Wisfreya thought for a moment, giving her answer. ’Then I refuse!’

Rean and Roan were taken aback. ’Really?’

’Really!’ Wisfreya seemed confident. ’I’m fine with what I have here. I’m sorry to say that, but your offer just seems way too far-fetched.’

Neither Rean nor Roan forced the issue, of course. ’Very well. Then we ask you to keep the secret about the two of us. That’s all. Thank you for listening to all of this.’

Then, the twins’ Divine Sense disappeared, just like that.

---

The second event, however, was still ongoing. Let’s not forget it has only been a few hours or so since the twins’ group came out of that Dimensional Realm. Naturally, there were plenty of experts still to acquire the one thousand tokens.

The second event lasted another two days. Finally, the twins’ group received the expected message on their CDs.

-Mamergi Zonta, Token Number 1000.-

-To all the participants in the Celestial Convergence Labyrinth, the second event is now over!-

The moment that message arrived, all the remaining participants... Well, the still alive ones... appeared on the main field of the military base once again. Of the almost ten thousand who entered it, only around four thousand survived.

It didn’t matter to the twins’ group, of course. Instead, Rean and Roan received another message that same day through Divine Sense.

’Alright, I changed my mind.’ It was Wisfreya. ’I accept your offer.’

’Uh?’ How could they not understand what she did? ’You were testing us, weren’t you?’

Wisfreya didn’t deny it. ’Yes, with your strength, I wanted to see if you would use force to capture me. I sensed it that day when Rean stopped my punch with just a finger. Perhaps I noticed it even earlier, when you both captured me in the Celestial Convergence Labyrinth. If you wanted to, you could take me, and no one could stop you. I’m not saying I fully trust your words now, but it’s a good start that you genuinely didn’t try to force the issue.’

’Not too bad for a kid who barely left the diapers,’ Roan commented.

Just one thing... Rean and Roan saw through that lie pretty much the moment it came out. The girl is only seventeen, so how could she hope to fool Rean and especially Roan? During the years she tagged along, the twins never told her about it.

’Now, leaving that aside...’ Rean’s Divine Sense focus suddenly changed to another girl, a girl who floated high in the skies without anyone noticing, just above the building where Wisfreya lived. ’Foliana, just what the hell are you doing there?!’
