Chapter 2613: Retaking the Exam

”Is he crazy?! He barely passed the exam, which is already a miracle itself, but he wants to retake it?! Does he really think he can obtain a higher score?!” The officers were in disbelief at Yuan’s arrogance.

”I don’t understand why he even wants a higher score... It’s not a competition, and he gains nothing from it.”

”This must be some kind of illness for geniuses like him. They are never satisfied.”

Mei Feng then spoke, ”If he wants to do it again, let him. If he fails, then he can only blame himself.”

Meanwhile, Yuan asked the examiners after having his request accepted, ”Do I have to retake the test immediately? I’d like to get an hour of rest.”

”You can retake it at any time as long as the exams are still going,” replied an examiner.

”Alright.”

Yuan left the testing grounds and began resting by the wall.

”That guy’s truly crazy.”

”Bastard is just trying to show off. I hope he fails the second exam.”

The exam continued, but not a single soldier passed after Yuan.

Even after failing, however, none of them left the building. Instead, they chose to remain behind and watch Yuan retake the exam.

An hour later, Yuan got off the floor and approached the examiners.

”I am ready to retake the exam.”

”O-Okay. We’ll send you in once there’s an available lane.”

”Thank you.”

A few minutes later, Yuan returned to the testing grounds and coincidentally stepped into lane number nine once more.

When the exam began, his performance during the first test was noticeably better than before—so much so that the difference was incomparable.

”What the hell?! It’s like I am watching a different person!”

The officers nearly got off their seats after seeing how much Yuan had improved.

During his first attempt, Yuan had purposefully started missing after the 50th ball. This time, however, he was determined to catch every single one.

Some time later—

”He actually caught all hundred balls!”

”What the hell is going on?! Even if his mastery of Void Control had drastically increased, he shouldn’t have the stamina to keep going! An hour of rest is nowhere near enough time to fully recover, either!”

Five minutes later, Yuan began his second test.

Since he had passed it flawlessly during his first attempt, the spectators assumed there was nothing left for him to improve. However, rather than dodging preemptively like most participants, Yuan waited until the very last instant—just before each bullet struck—to teleport away, displaying both his extraordinary reaction speed and absolute confidence.

Ten minutes later, Yuan moved onto the third test.

”>

Yuan looked at the results and silently nodded, satisfied with them.

”N-Ninety-nine point ninety-six percent?! That’s practically a perfect score!”

”Heavens!”

The officers could no longer contain their excitement and stood from their seats, their eyes glued to Yuan’s miraculous results.

”To improve this much in such a short time! What terrifying talents! It’s practically otherworldly!”

Meanwhile, the examiners were so awestruck that they fell into a daze and forgot to announce the result.

The other soldiers could only stare at Yuan as if they had seen a ghost, their eyes widened and jaws hanging open in complete disbelief.

Although Yuan could have simply accepted the result of his first attempt, he wanted everyone present to witness firsthand how quickly he could improve. That way, even if he suddenly accomplished something outrageous in the future, no one would question it.

In other words, he wanted to drill one thought into their minds—that nothing was beyond his capabilities.

”I can leave, right?” Yuan asked the examiners, snapping them out of their daze.

”Y-Yes...”

”Do I get some sort of certificate to verify that I have passed this exam?” Yuan asked as he walked off the testing grounds.

”No, we’ll update your information after the exam today, and you’ll be able to partake in Red Zone missions by tomorrow.”

”Sounds good.”

Yuan began making his way to the exit but was promptly stopped by a familiar voice.

”Wait a second, Corporal Yuan.”

Yuan turned around to follow the sound of the voice.

”General Mei?” he muttered in a surprised tone.

”General Mei?!” The other soldiers hastily raised their arms to salute her after taking a moment to comprehend the situation.

”Follow me to my office. I’d like to have a word with you,” she said to him.

”I understand.”

Once Yuan followed Mei Feng to her office, she immediately asked him, ”Tell me the truth. Did you already know Void Control before joining the military?”

”What makes you think that?”

Instead of directly answering her question, Yuan asked one of his own, a playful smile on his face.

Mei Feng sighed aloud before speaking, ”Your expression confirms my suspicion. Where did you learn it? From your original world?”

Yuan nodded and answered truthfully, ”That’s correct, but in my world, it’s called Void Manipulation.”

Mei Feng rubbed her eyes and sighed again.

”What was the purpose of your performance today?”

”Well, it’d be odd for someone who just joined the military to know Void Control without doing proper training, right?”

”I mean, why’d you retake the test when your first one would’ve sufficed?”

”To put things simply... to raise my reputation.”

”Even though pretty much everyone is already aware of your existence?”

”Not that sort of reputation. I want to reach a level where nobody will question anything that I do.”

”That sounds like something someone with ulterior motives would say—a villain, so to speak.”

Yuan chuckled at her words.

”What are you worried about?”

Mei Feng fell silent for a moment before responding, ”To be perfectly honest, I suspected you might be a spy from another city. However, no spy would willingly draw this much attention to themselves.”

”...”

”No response? You could at least try to deny it.”

”What would be the point of that? You already implied that you don’t think I am a spy.” Yuan shrugged.

”You’re really a handful...” Mei Feng sighed for the third time.
