Chapter 2612: Void Control Evaluation(3)

After waiting around an hour, Yuan’s ears twitched when he heard his name being called.

”Corporal Yuan! Lane number nine!”

Yuan was slightly surprised to hear his name, as he thought he would be called last again, but there were still plenty of people after him.

He calmly walked to his lane while wondering how he should deal with the exam.

’The exam unexpectedly became even more difficult than anticipated... should I just fail on purpose and try again on the next one? They have a test every month, anyway...’

However, after some contemplation, he decided that it wasn’t worth waiting another month, and that he might as well get this thing over with today.

When Mei Feng and the officers noticed Yuan entering the testing grounds, they subconsciously sat up with straightened backs.

”What kind of performance will you show us today?” Mei Feng mumbled in a low voice, a subtle smile on her face.

Once Yuan stepped into lane number nine, the test began shortly afterward.

The moment Yuan began using Void Control, the spectators collectively sucked in a breath of cold air. Seeing someone wield it after only a few days of training was simply too astonishing.

Even Mei Feng had harbored some doubts. However, once Yuan demonstrated the technique—even with movements that appeared somewhat amateurish—everyone was left speechless.

”I can’t believe it... He’s really using Void Control. It’s still somewhat unrefined, but that’s only natural considering he learned it just a few days ago.”

At first, Yuan deliberately made it seem as though he was struggling to catch the balls, which was actually the most difficult part of the exam. However, as the test continued, his Void Control gradually became more refined, giving the impression that he was improving with every use.

”How is he improving so quickly that we can see it with our own eyes?! That kind of talent should be illegal!” One of the participants exclaimed in disbelief.

Soon, Yuan reached his 50th ball, catching all of them. However, after that point, he started to miss a few of them, especially towards the end.

In the end, he’d only managed to catch eighty-one balls in total, which was just slightly passing.

”My word! He’s actually passed the first test!”

”Even if he fails the second test, nobody would blame him.”

”What if he also passes the second test?”

”Unfortunately, I don’t think he has any energy to continue. If you hadn’t noticed, he slowed down quite a bit toward the end.”

After his first test, Yuan was given five minutes to rest, but it was over in the blink of an eye, and his second test began.

’I won’t be able to barely pass this test as I did with the first test...’ Yuan thought to himself as he dodged the first bullet.

Five minutes later—

”Hey, who was it that claimed he won’t have enough energy to continue? He’s doing just fine.”

”He was given some time to rest, after all. But I’m sure he’ll drop within the next two minutes.”

Two minutes later, Yuan continued dodging the bullets with the same consistency.

”It’s been two minutes...”

”O-One more minute! He will definitely fall within the next minute!”

Yet, two more minutes passed, and after lasting ten minutes, Yuan passed the second test.

”What?! How is that possible?! He was clearly out of breath after the first test! Even if he was given five minutes to rest, that isn’t nearly enough time to recover that much! That makes no sense!”

”Your first mistake was to use common sense against a genius like that...”

Although every participant was given five minutes of rest after the first test, there was no rest after the second, so Yuan had to immediately start the third test.

”As amazing as his performance was for someone who’d learned Void Control just a few days ago, this is where he fails,” said the analyst. ”Even if he has the stamina to keep going, his precision is another subject. I have been watching him closely, and I noticed that his precision has been all over the place. I would be surprised if his accuracy is above 30 percent.”

”That low?”

”I guess we’ll see...”

The moment the third test started, Yuan started using Void Control to teleport between the two circles.

”H-Hey....”

”That’s ridiculous!”

Only seconds after Yuan began, everyone realized he was performing exceptionally well—better than anyone who had taken the exam before him.

The spectators watched with wide eyes as Yuan teleported with astonishing precision, displaying a level of mastery that far surpassed anything he had shown up to that point.

One hundred teleports later—

”>

”What?!”

Many exclaimed simultaneously, unwilling to believe their eyes.

”P-Pass...” The examiners swallowed nervously before announcing the result, their voices filled with disbelief.

The spectator room was eerily silent, as everyone needed a moment to process what they had just witnessed.

”His precision during the first and second tests was nowhere near this level... Was he deliberately hiding his abilities, or did he truly improve that much in such a short time?” one of the officers muttered thoughtfully.

”He has no reason to conceal his skills. Considering he learned Void Control in only a few days, it’s more likely that he simply improved that quickly,” someone replied.

Meanwhile, on the training grounds—

”Corporal Yuan, you’ve already finished the test. You can leave now.”

However, Yuan turned to face the examiners and uttered words that nobody there could’ve anticipated even in a billion years.

”Is it possible for me to retake the test?” he asked with a calm expression.

”Excuse me?”

Everyone present stared at him with widened eyes.

”W-Why?” one of the examiners snapped out of his daze and asked.

”Because I am not satisfied with my results,” Yuan responded in a serious tone.

”...”

After a moment of silence, another examiner spoke. ”S-Since you passed, you may request a retake. However, you’ll have to forfeit your current result, and whatever score you receive on your second attempt will become final—even if you fail. You won’t be allowed to retake the exam again. Are you fine with that?”

Yuan silently nodded, leaving them speechless.
