Chapter 2468 Demon Slaying Parade

”Fuck! I am not joking! Just look! There are cracks on the seal! If I am joking, I will give you guys my paycheck for the next decade!” The guard shouted angrily.

Hearing this, the other guards finally turned toward the entrance to the Demonic Realm—a pair of enormous gates bound by nine golden chains and surrounded by a semi-transparent barrier.

At first glance, the barrier itself appeared perfectly intact. However, the moment they inspected the golden chains more closely, their expressions changed.

One of the chains had developed visible cracks, despite having remained flawless for millions of years.

”I-Itʼs true! There are cracks on one of the seals!” The guards immediately began to panic.

There were ten guards stationed at the entrance, yet not a single one of them was a Demon Sealer. Instead, they had been jointly hired by the Demon Sealing Clan and the Demon Sealing Grotto, as neither side trusted the other to safeguard the entrance properly on their own.

”Fuck! What should we do?!”

”Thereʼs only one thing to do! Contact the Demon Sealers!”

Two of the guards swiftly retrieved communication jade slips from their Spatial Rings and contacted their respective superiors—one reaching out to the Demon Sealing Clan, while the other informed the Demon Sealing Grotto.

”We have an emergency! One of the seals on the entrance to the Demonic Realm has been damaged!”

”What do you mean it has been damaged?! Are you under attack?!”

”No! It just cracked by itself!”

”Damn it! Why does something like this have to happen while the Stairway to Heaven is still missing?! And with the Demon Slaying Parade approaching, no less!” the Demon Sealer sighed in frustration.

”Fortunately, this is likely nothing more than minor deterioration caused by age,” he continued. ”The seal has existed since the Demonic Era, and we already knew it had been gradually weakening over time.”

”So what should we do?” asked the guard.

”Nothing. Just keep doing your job and watch over it.”

”I understand…”

In the end, both guards received nearly identical responses and were instructed to simply remain vigilant and continue monitoring the seal.

As for the Demon Sealers, neither bothered informing their superiors about the situation, deeming it insignificant. Besides, everyone was already overwhelmed with preparations for the Demon Slaying Parade and the growing activities of the demon worshippers.

Time continued to pass, and as the days drew closer to the Demon Slaying Parade, more and more cracks began appearing across the seal.

”Hey… what did the Boss say? Are you sure we can ignore it?” One of the guards asked when he saw that one of the chains was covered in cracks and appeared to be on the verge of shattering.

”Itʼs fine,” said the guard who contacted the Demon Sealers. ”The Boss assured me that itʼs normal and that they are already aware of—”

Clang!

Suddenly, one of the golden chains shattered, startling everyone there.

”Uh… I think you should contact the Boss again.”

The guards contacted the Demon Sealers for the second time shortly later.

”Senior, one of the seals has shattered!” ”What? It shattered? What about the other seals? There should be nine of them.”

”The other eight are fine.”

”Then ignore it. We will deal with it once the Demon Slaying Parade ends.”

”I understand…”

After closing the call, the guard said to the others, ”He said to ignore it.”

”Mine said the same,” said the other guard.

The guards looked at the eight remaining seals in silence.

”I guess it will be fine as long as the others are—”

Before the guard could even finish his sentence, two more seals began to crack simultaneously.

”…”

The guards exchanged silent glances with each other, wondering if they should contact their Bosses again.

Meanwhile, people from across the Nine Heavens began gathering at the venue for the Demon Slaying Parade, which existed within its own independent world and functioned similarly to the Myriad of Techniques, allowing visitors from across the Nine Heavens to enter without relying on the Stairway to Heaven.

”Any news on the Stairway to Heaven? Itʼs been gone for a few years now.”

”I donʼt know about the Stairway to Heaven, but I heard that the Celestial Emperor has already hired the God of Creation to forge us a new one.”

The visitors chatted with each other while they waited for the event to begin.

”And how long would that take? If itʼs even possible to make a new one. Thereʼs a reason why the Stairway to Heaven has remained our only realm-traversing treasure since its creation.”

”To think the Stairway to Heaven was created millions of years ago. Whoever made it was way ahead of their time!”

A different topic was being discussed in another area.

”When was the last time the Demon Slaying Parade occurred?”

”Several thousand years ago, I think.”

”The Demon Slaying Parade has happened seven times since the Demon Sealing Clanʼs creation, most of them happening shortly after their founder suddenly disappeared without announcing a successor.”

”Who is this Yan Hara? I have never heard of her until today.”

”From what Iʼve heard, sheʼs a Master Demon Sealer, not even a Supreme Demon Sealer.”

”And sheʼs challenging the leader? Why would she do that?”

”According to rumor, she holds a grudge against Qian Chu because she blames him for her failure during the Supreme Demon Sealer Qualifications.” ”What? If thatʼs true, how pathetic.” ”Women, am I right?”

”...”

A few days before the Demon Slaying Parade was scheduled to begin, Yan Hara received news of the seal on the Demonic Realm weakening.

”What?! Since when did it start?!” Yan Hara exclaimed after hearing the news.

”About two weeks ago.”

”And why am I just hearing about this now?!” she continued shouting in disbelief.

”The one in charge of communication thought it was normal and insignificant because the seals had already been weakening for many years now… until six of the nine seals shattered in just two weeks.”

”Thatʼs absurd! Who put someone so brainless in charge of something so important?!” Yan Hara facepalmed.
