Corpse Burier: I Can Nourish Corpse

Chapter 60: Chapter 60: Soul Summoning and Soul Nourishing

Push open the door.

A boy, about seventeen or eighteen years old, with a slightly youthful and heroic expression on his face, appeared before his eyes. Unlike other ordinary disciples of Feixian Peak, Chen Daoqing looked at Wen Jiu without that ingratiating gaze.

There was only a sense of goodwill.

But that’s enough, after all, Chen Daoqing is a third-generation immortal.

”Fellow Daoist Chen.”

Wen Jiu calmly cupped his fists in greeting, not overly enthusiastic because of Chen Daoqing’s status as a third-generation immortal.

Chen Daoqing returned the gesture and then got straight to the point, ”Fellow Daoist Wen, in three days we will have a small gathering, attended by some of the more outstanding apprentice disciples and official disciples of Feixian Peak.”

”I’ll definitely be there.”

Chen Daoqing didn’t express it very clearly, but he understood his meaning.

With the assessment imminent, it’s naturally best to get to know each other better, so as to form alliances on the main peak and avoid being ostracized and bullied.

If even a small Night Patrol Department is divided into factions like this, how much more so the main peak?

Chen Daoqing nodded, and in the following conversation, there was an added note of praise, ”Fellow Daoist Wen’s heterodox talent is truly rare. Among our group of people, only two can compare with you... One is the granddaughter of the Alchemy Room’s elder, and the other is Peak Master Ji’s youngest disciple. Both have abundant resources. If it weren’t for their extraordinary status, I’m afraid they wouldn’t match up to Fellow Daoist Wen.”

”Fellow Daoist Chen flatters me.”

Wen Jiu knew perfectly well.

After this kind of praise, it’s likely that the real issue is about to be brought up.

As expected, Chen Daoqing handed over an invitation, a clear attempt from the Chen Family to win him over.

To this.

Wen Jiu was not surprised.

However, asking him to engage with peers is acceptable, a few encounters can eventually develop into a network.

But if he were to accept Chen Family’s recruitment, the Chen Family would become a shackle rather than a network for him.

Because dealing with families, they are surely in it for profit. For someone like Wen Jiu, who just wants to stay in the Corpse Remains Death Land, the Chen Family would inevitably not agree, so it is best to have no entanglements or take their benefits.

”Fellow Daoist Chen, I am used to being a lone wolf.” Wen Jiu replied, which was a direct rejection of Chen Daoqing’s invitation.

However, Wen Jiu originally thought Chen Daoqing would have some reaction, perhaps a slight sneer, but unexpectedly, Chen Daoqing took it back readily, ”I knew Fellow Daoist Wen would respond this way, I shouldn’t have spent so much time on my way here thinking of words to compliment you... I’m not the kind of person who’s good at flattery, anyway?”

As he finished speaking.

The image Chen Daoqing had maintained before instantly collapsed.

As expected, he truly was just a young lad.

Straightforward.

Honest.

Truth be told, dealing with someone like him is comfortable.

After a few more exchanges, Wen Jiu bid farewell to Chen Daoqing, promising to attend the banquet at the Mountain View Tower in the trading market in three days.

After sending off Chen Daoqing, Wen Jiu directly went to the Library of Feixian Peak, found, through inquiry, the heavenly and earthly treasures related to ghosts. Originally, Wen Jiu was only trying his luck, but unexpectedly, he really found something.

The book recording the Ghost-faced Butcher was a heavily dust-laden manuscript, and the years showed it was from fifty years ago.

When Wen Jiu carefully flipped through it, he saw quite a few ghost-related heavenly and earthly treasures, each more sinister than the last, with cultivation methods and simple cultivation insights recorded below, but the cultivation methods were equally bizarre.

Wen Jiu skimmed through casually, his gaze landed on the annotation of the Ghost-faced Butcher, the information was more detailed than what was given to him in his daily summaries, but it was uncertain whether it could raise the dead or flesh the bones anew.

Because fifty years ago, only one person had attempted it, turning into something neither human nor ghost due to failure.

Skipping all the useless information, Wen Jiu’s gaze fell on another function of the Ghost-faced Butcher.

Attraction Soul.

Simply put, it attracts Yin Souls.

Because the ghostly aura emitted by the Ghost-faced Butcher is extremely dense, it is absolutely alluring to Yin Souls.

It can also nurture Soul Puppets, once a Yin Soul consumes enough ghostly aura from the Ghost-faced Butcher, it will lose self-awareness and become a Soul Puppet.

However, nurturing Soul Puppets will excessively consume the ghostly aura of the Ghost-faced Butcher, preventing it from producing fruits, so even if a pile of Soul Puppets are cultivated for battle, their value does not compare to a single Ghost-faced Butcher’s fruit.

A single Ghost-faced Butcher’s fruit, once ripe, becomes a top-grade Tier One heavenly and earthly treasure.

Due to its rarity and uniqueness, its value even surpasses ordinary Tier Two heavenly and earthly treasures for Ghost Cultivators.

Therefore, the original author advocated nurturing the fruit, and attached a method for doing so—one of which is absorbing the life force of cultivators.

”It seems to me, the greatest use is for attracting Yin Souls and nurturing them... coincidentally, I also need a large amount of Yin Souls for nurturing the Black Corpse.”

Wen Jiu carefully looked at the range for attracting souls again, its author didn’t provide accurate numbers, but the minimum was fifty miles. If a fierce ghost face had appeared, it could attract from within at least one hundred miles.

Upon seeing ”one hundred miles”, Wen Jiu couldn’t help but feel pleased, as in the future, he could simply wait by the tree for prey.

No need to travel far to find souls.

This was undoubtedly the best news for Wen Jiu, allowing him to nurture quietly instead of running around.

Wen Jiu was most delighted by the fact that ordinary cultivators couldn’t detect the allure of the Ghost-faced Butcher.

Only Yin Souls could.

”Perfect!”

Wen Jiu was overjoyed.

Low profile.

This was also what he needed most.

Returning to the Corpse Remains Death Land from the Library, Wen Jiu immediately went to the Corpse Remains Death Land, opened the Corpse Nurturing Coffin to reveal the Ghost-faced Butcher, and then had the Black Corpse perform the Three Rivers Ghost Concealment, quietly waiting beside the tree.

Ten breaths.

Just ten breaths.

Three Yin Souls greedily came to seek it out.

Two just formed, one comparable to Qi Cultivation First Layer.

The Black Corpse saw and was immediately excited to pounce but was held back by Wen Jiu with one hand.

No way.

Must wait until they’re fat before killing.

The current three Yin Souls wouldn’t provide much enhancement to the Black Corpse, struggling even to use for blending the Celestial Killing Water.

However, the number of Yin Souls is scarce, not endless, so the Black Corpse can’t be allowed to wantonly devour Yin Souls.

Soon.

While the three Yin Souls greedily consumed the ghost aura leaking from the Ghost-faced Butcher, two more attracted souls found their way over.

And then the sixth, seventh...

But within a hundred breaths.

Ten Yin Souls.

”This isn’t merely waiting by the tree thieving rabbits... this is an ambush for a throng of rabbits!” Wen Jiu was both excited and satisfied.

Soon.

After sucking the ghost aura from the Ghost-faced Butcher for over a dozen breaths, the ten Yin Souls turned into Soul Puppets, regarding Wen Jiu as their master.

Submissive.

And extremely wooden.

What delighted Wen Jiu even more was that a few newly formed attracted souls, after consuming the dense ghost aura of the Ghost-faced Butcher for less than a hundred breaths, had actually evolved into real Yin Souls, while the others comparable to Qi Cultivation First Layer Yin Souls were also faintly showing signs of breakthrough.

And so.

The Black Corpse grew even more excited.

Had it not been for its inability to speak, Wen Jiu felt it would’ve burst out laughing.

Three days flew by.

Chen Daoqing came again.

Coming for the small gathering among everyone.

Chen Daoqing’s visit this time was to advise Wen Jiu on some things, actually, just some people’s preferences, what they like to hear, and what they don’t. To this, Wen Jiu was actually not concerned.

This trip to the banquet, Wen Jiu only intended to get familiar faces, he never hoped to establish friendships on the first meeting.

He also didn’t believe those people would stop seeing him through colored glasses because of a small gathering.

People’s prejudices are like a mountain.

They can be obscured.

But are hard to change.

Wen Jiu understood this very clearly.

[End of Three Updates!

Nervous.

Not sure if it can make it to Sanjiang.

If it can, I will post ten updates on the day it launches!
