Cleaver Of Sin

Chapter 803: Definitely In Bed With Lady Luck

And needless to say, the betting organisation saw this as yet another way to make money. Instantly, new notifications flashed before people’s eyes as odds appeared within a heads-up display. Of course, the betting organisation didn’t list people like Asher and the others who were within the top five hundred (500). After all, those people were destined to survive the night.

But as for those who were in miserable conditions, the betting organisation simply saw profits waiting to be made. To them, every opportunity to make money was an opportunity, no matter how small it was. And of course, people didn’t bet their money on such ridiculous things. While they made fun of, taunted, and laughed at the students, they wouldn’t actually risk their money on them.

They could only place bets on fights whose outcomes they could somewhat predict.

But just because a lot of students were having issues surviving didn’t mean everyone was. Some people were simply sitting back and relaxing as though they were in the comfort of their own homes. After all, some of them had found various types of Positive Zones; healing-type Positive Zones that simply multiplied regeneration to a certain degree; stamina rejuvenation zones; or zones that were simply called ”safe zones” by the announcement, which allowed students to remain within them for a few hours without being attacked, allowing them to let their guards down completely.

And at this moment, Finch, the illegitimate son of Lady Luck, had found himself within a Positive Zone yet again. And within this Positive Zone, he had every form of comfort imaginable: a bed, three pillows, food and water waiting for him by the bedside.

Finch didn’t stand on ceremony. He simply ate as though he had expected such a thing and then drifted off into sleep without a care in the world, as though he somehow knew where every Positive Zone was located.

People who were watching could only comment on how outrageously lucky he was. After all, they had seen his name occupying 1st rank for a while, so people paid attention to him every now and then, and he remained within the top fifty without battling any ridiculously powerful Monster unlike other top 50 rankers.

What shocked everyone to the core and left them speechless was that Finch had found two beings, one a Mark-class Monster and the other a Rank 5 Emovira, and both of them had been on their last legs, almost dead as they had fled from whatever had nearly killed them.

Yet Finch had found them and killed them before either of those two beings, who possessed immense sensory abilities, could even smell or hear him approaching.

To everyone watching, it was simply madness. If he had found the two beings together, perhaps after they had fought each other and he capitalised on the opportunity with a sneak attack, it would have been understandable. But finding two separate half-dead Rank 5 beings was a completely different level of luck.

And not only that, whenever Finch walked past the territories of Mark-class or Fang-class Monsters, or any Rank 4 beings and above, they didn’t seem to sense him at all, and he would also obliviously walk past them. Then afterwards, he would somehow find himself in locations filled with Viel-class Monsters that he could freely farm for points.

On this first day alone, Finch Whale had found a total of five Positive Zones and zero Negative Zones.

People began to call Finch the husband of Lady Luck. Some said Lady Luck was Finch’s concubine at this point. Others said they were lovers. Some even claimed Finch was definitely her illegitimate son. And of course, they said all this after making fun of his ”special” physique.

Baron Rivelle and Baron Canestane also commented on Finch’s outrageous luck that seemed never to run dry. Naturally, they were watching Finch and William alongside Asher, even placing small bets on both Finch and William from time to time just to show their support.

Baron Whale simply smirked and basked in their praise. As Finch’s father, he knew a bit about his son’s lucky encounters from when he was a child.

Baron Whale had long thought Finch would awaken something like a Luck Manipulation ability, but alas, he had been disappointed when Finch had ”only” awakened a soul-bound weapon.

As for Rachael, she was over the moon for her brother, arguing with her personal maid that all stronger Monsters and Emovirae were deliberately avoiding her brother because they could sense he was stronger. Otherwise, he would have already been first on the rankings like he previously was.

Sigh... if only this cute little sister could understand that Luck was the very thing preventing Finch from being killed by a single casual attack from Rank 4 beings and above.

And of course, the betting organisation made another move. They immediately uploaded the odds of Finch finding a White Flag. As for the other types of flags, they didn’t include them in their odds system, as it seemed they acknowledged that Finch’s ridiculous luck would allow him to acquire a Flag at the very minimum.

But the White Flag... now that was the real deal, the most overpowered Flag of them all. People placed a few bets as they all wanted to know just how absurdly lucky this fat boy from the Zarethorne Empire truly was.

Some even began betting on how many Positive Zones he would find before encountering his first Negative Zone. Others wagered on whether he would accidentally stumble across another heavily injured high-ranking creature before the day was over. At this point, Finch himself had become a form of entertainment.

And of course, Finch gained his own loyal fanbase that began arguing that Finch could take on Asher with his absurd luck in play, which was simply too funny to hear and listen to.

Of course, everyone knew the statement was outrageous and nonsensical, but they still argued. Why? It was all part of the banter, all part of the ways of passing time and engaging in the tournament itself.

Some fans argued that Luck was a power in its own right. Others countered that no amount of Luck could overcome an overwhelming difference in strength. The debates grew so heated that some people were paying more attention to the arguments than to the competition itself.

As for Finch, he remained completely oblivious as he simply slept peacefully.

Lior, who had remained within his soul throughout this entire period, simply sighed as he shook his head. Yes, he had been with Finch throughout the past few months, but he still couldn’t get used to it. Even William, who was Finch’s childhood friend, wasn’t over Finch’s ridiculous luck. So how could Lior possibly be?

But one had to ask, even if Finch’s Good Luck ability miraculously allowed him to qualify for the next round, how was he supposed to participate in such an event with his low combat power and current Life Rank?

After all, everyone within that top fifty possessed enough power to battle Rank 6 beings if they teamed up together in pairs or even single handedly, and they all could also one-shot Rank 5 beings as though they were nothing, just as Zis Zaitsu had demonstrated earlier.

Wasn’t his Good Luck ability simply setting him up for a death wish?

Even if he acquired the White Flag, so what? It was a one-time-use item. What other trump card was he supposed to pull out after using the White Flag, assuming he even acquired it in the first place?

In the end, once all of that was over, his hype might die out, and he might end up being labelled the greatest fraud in history.

One had to ask, what made Finch’s Good Luck ability so confident in setting him up for such a fate?

Or maybe... just maybe... Finch’s Good Luck had evolved into something far more twisted.

But alas, nobody could know the answer until the Qualifier Round finally came to an end.

____

Sighs... Finch’s Good Luck is too busted.

What would you do with such luck on Earth?
