Apart from the fact that Golden Phoenix Flame’s power far surpassed Bone Chilling Flame, it also happened to match Yao Lao’s affinity extremely well.

”Master, you broke through to Dou Sheng by absorbing the complete marrow of an Ancient Heavenly Phoenix. Your body has long since carried an extremely dense aura of the Ancient Heavenly Phoenix.”

Wei Yang smiled and said, ”This flame is simply the most suitable for you. With both sides complementing each other, the power Golden Phoenix Flame can unleash in your hands will be even stronger, even surpassing most Heavenly Flames.”

”That’s right. Master, didn’t you feel a kind of resonance with it the moment you held it?” Xiao Yan added.

”I do feel a resonance with this flame. The moment I held it, I could feel the blood in my body faintly boiling, as if trembling.” Yao Lao nodded.

Back then, when he refined a new body and ascended to Dou Sheng in one stroke, he had devoured hundreds of pieces of marrow extracted from an entire Ancient Heavenly Phoenix’s skeleton.

The energy in his body came mostly from that Phoenix marrow. And as time passed, that energy thoroughly fused with his body, sinking deep into his bloodline and bones.

Saying Yao Lao was half–human, half–Ancient Heavenly Phoenix wasn’t exaggerated. If he were to fuse Ancient Heavenly Phoenix bloodline as well, he would practically be the complete package.

Facing Golden Phoenix Flame, how could he not feel a reaction? Not only did he feel it, but there was a strange familiar tremor and an overwhelming sense of closeness. This flame suited him far more than Bone Chilling Flame.

With its peak Nine-Change grade power, combined with the force of a Dou Sheng, the power it could unleash would be terrifying. The increase in combat strength was far superior to what Bone Chilling Flame could offer.

Furthermore, Golden Phoenix Flame possessed healing and undying properties. In Yao Lao’s hands, it surpassed Bone Chilling Flame in every single aspect.

It wasn’t that Bone Chilling Flame was bad. After all, it was ranked eleventh on the Heavenly Flame Ranking — not something that earned its name for nothing. But for the time being, its power was simply too low. It needed an extremely long time to grow.

Bone Chilling Flame hadn’t even developed true intelligence yet. How strong could it be?

At Yao Lao’s current level, even if a Dou Sheng infused its power into the flame, it still felt like pouring 98-octane fuel into a 92-grade engine.

Uncomfortable. Wasteful. Unable to unleash the full combustion it should have. Truthfully speaking, Bone Chilling Flame’s traits weren’t that impressive either. It was basically a weakened version of Nine Serene Wind Flame.

Compared to Golden Phoenix Flame’s healing and undying traits, it fell far behind. In the cultivation world, the ability to tank hits, endure, and survive was always king. A Heavenly Flame wasn’t automatically superior.

At least, those ranked outside the top ten were not guaranteed to completely overwhelm some high-level beast flames. Suitability could sometimes be more important. The flame’s properties were crucial too. After all, compared to techniques, normal attacks didn’t matter much.

Of course, this logic didn’t apply to the top five Heavenly Flames. Because the top five were on a completely different level. They had everything — traits, power, even their ”normal attacks” were absurdly strong.

”Fine, then this old man will accept it.”

In the end, under the insistence of the two disciples, Yao Lao happily nodded and accepted the Golden Phoenix Flame.

”Haha, with this flame, Master’s strength will surely soar, like giving wings to a tiger.” Wei Yang and Xiao Yan both laughed.

”I suppose this old man is benefitting from his disciples.” Yao Lao stroked his beard and laughed as well, warmth rising in his heart. Then his voice changed and he smiled, ”Since I have obtained Golden Phoenix Flame, then...”

As his words fell, Yao Lao lightly tapped his forehead. A cluster of pale white fire slowly flowed out and hovered before him, drifting upward like mist. It was none other than Bone Chilling Flame. Ranked eleventh on the Heavenly Flame Ranking.

A Heavenly Flame born of the fusion of extreme cold and extreme heat, appearing only every hundred years during the alternation of sun and moon, in a place of extreme cold and extreme yin. Its attributes and traits were completely a weakened version of Nine Serene Wind Flame.

”Master...” Xiao Yan was stunned when he saw this.

But Xiao Yan wasn’t too surprised. Clearly, he had already prepared himself mentally. Wei Yang smiled as he watched.

”You cultivate the Flame Mantra. Heavenly Flames are extremely important to you. Now that I have Golden Phoenix Flame, this Bone Chilling Flame no longer holds much use for me.”

Yao Lao looked at Xiao Yan with a gentle expression, ”So instead of letting it sit in my hands and go to waste, it’s better for you to devour it.”

As he spoke, Yao Lao gave Wei Yang an apologetic glance.

Truthfully, he owed nothing to Xiao Yan or anyone else. But in his heart, the one he felt most indebted to... was his eldest disciple, Wei Yang. Seeing this, Wei Yang shrugged and smiled.

”I’m not interested in ordinary Heavenly Flames anymore.”

Yao Lao and Xiao Yan were both speechless.

Those words... in this world, probably only Wei Yang could say them with such confidence. It was like a certain boss saying, ”I’m completely uninterested in money.” Pure, unfiltered Versailles-level bragging.

”Thank you, Master. Thank you, Senior Brother.” Xiao Yan smiled bitterly and shook his head, then accepted Bone Chilling Flame from Yao Lao’s hands.

He felt like he was truly blessed. To have Yao Lao as his Master and Wei Yang as his senior brother in this lifetime... Throughout this journey, they had always silently supported him, helped him, and protected him.

If he hadn’t met them, today he might not have even walked out of the Jia Ma Empire. How could he possibly reach Ban Sheng within less than twenty years?

More likely, he would have died long ago at Hall of Souls’s hands. This kindness was far too great. He could never repay it. All he could do was carry it silently in his heart... and spend his whole life repaying them bit by bit.

Seeing his two disciples so close and harmonious, Yao Lao felt deeply gratified. Unlike that ungrateful brat Han Feng. He extended a finger and lightly touched the cluster of Bone Chilling Flame. The pale-white fire trembled violently.

A few moments later, the trembling ceased, and Yao Lao’s face turned slightly pale.

”I’ve erased the soul imprint within Bone Chilling Flame. However, this flame has been refined by me for many years. Even though, due to past matters, I didn’t have the chance to properly nurture it, it still followed me for a long time.”

”Even though the soul imprint is erased now, it will still resist you greatly. So you won’t be able to use Flame Mantra to refine and devour it immediately. Otherwise, it will give you severe backlash.”

Yao Lao gently stroked the flame and smiled faintly, ”Plant your own soul imprint in it first. Keep it inside your body and let it warm up. Once it no longer rejects you, then you may fuse with it.”

Xiao Yan nodded.

Simply put, he couldn’t just force his way in. He needed to take time and build up affinity. That... was something he was very familiar with. Looking at the pale-white flame before him, Xiao Yan’s eyes grew slightly red.

Bone Chilling Flame was probably the thing that had accompanied Yao Lao for the longest time. Now, he had personally wiped away his imprint—just to make way for him, his disciple.

”Foolish child, don’t act like that. It’s better for it to reach its full potential with you than sit uselessly in my hands.”

”But with your current strength, even after devouring it, you probably won’t gain much of a boost. After all, for an eleventh-ranked Heavenly Flame, its current power is a bit lacking for someone at your level.” Yao Lao sighed with slight regret, then urged, ”Alright, go plant your soul imprint.”

”Mm.” Xiao Yan sniffed lightly, then stopped hesitating. He closed his eyes and touched the pale flame with his fingertips.

A strand of soul imprint slowly seeped into it.
