Bizarre Voyage: Summoning The Fourth Crisis

SWISH!

After a quick roll, Luo Ge cleanly slew a Beach Sand Worm. As he picked up the spoils, he also checked on the player’s situation through the Spirit Candle.

Seeing Li Miao turn the tables and kill the Beach Fishman, he nodded slightly.

Although Li Miao had made many mistakes, completely neglecting his Skills and Weapon, and had only survived thanks to his robust Constitution and the Effect of a small trinket... at least he wasn’t killed by the weakest of the Beach Fishmen.

Luo Ge was confident that the player would soon grow accustomed to combat and become a competent Warrior.

SHINK!

Lost in thought, Luo Ge plunged his Broken Sword into the sand beneath his feet, killing another Beach Sand Worm that had tried to ambush him.

...

Though he didn’t have a precise information panel, Li Miao could clearly sense that he only had about a quarter of his Life Force left.

It was clearly a pyrrhic victory.

If he had made one more mistake, he probably would have given up first blood right then and there...

’This game... is a little hardcore...’

Li Miao thought to himself.

But when he saw the single, teardrop-shaped piece of Wax Oil, he couldn’t help but feel a surge of accomplishment.

’I killed a strong enemy in my very first fight. I’m pretty good after all!’

’What an exhilarating battle!’

’Not bad, not bad at all. This is a well-made game!’

”ROAR...”

A roar echoed from the distant shore.

It snapped Li Miao back to his senses.

[Acquired: Wax Oil ×1]

”First, I’ll go back and heal up.” He picked up the Wax Oil and returned to the Reef Cave.

Sitting cross-legged beside the Spirit Candle, Li Miao could clearly feel his Life Force slowly recovering as the wounds on his body healed rapidly.

He estimated he would be fully recovered in about a minute.

The dim Candlefire illuminated the dark cave. The sound of dripping water echoed from a corner as the wounded Warrior gradually recovered in the warmth...

’This has a pretty nice feel to it...’

Li Miao mused.

He then began to analyze his previous fight.

’When it lunged at me, I should have just rolled out of the way...’

’I should have used my blade. How did I end up in a brawl without even realizing it...’

Li Miao struck his palm, annoyed with himself.

In truth, his reaction was perfectly normal.

After all, he was just an Ordinary person before this. Forget about fighting to the death; he didn’t even have much experience in regular brawls.

Only through countless hard-fought battles could one be forged into a true Warrior...

Before long, Li Miao’s injuries were completely healed.

He picked up his blade again, brimming with fighting spirit.

’Next time, I’ll roll out of the way and finish it in one strike!’

Head held high, the player charged aggressively toward the shore once more.

...

「Several hours passed in the blink of an eye.」

Li Miao had transformed from a total rookie into a Warrior who had at least learned the basics.

”ROAR!”

A Beach Fishman leaped at him.

Li Miao performed a clumsy side-roll, dodging the attack. He quickly got back up and swung his blade, Tearing a huge gash across the Beach Fishman’s back.

’I missed again!’

Li Miao cursed inwardly. ’Attacking after a roll really is hard to control. I was aiming for its head...’

”SPLAT!”

The injured Beach Fishman, however, seemed to feel nothing. It opened its mouth and spat a glob of slime at Li Miao.

With quick eyes and nimble hands, Li Miao rolled forward, using the opportunity to slash with his blade again.

This time, his aim was true, and he chopped the fish head in half.

[Acquired: Wax Oil ×1]

”Just a puny Fishman. Dealt with in two strikes!”

Li Miao grinned. This was the first time he had killed a Beach Fishman without taking any damage.

However, just as he was celebrating, a series of low growls rose up from behind him.

”ROAR...” ”ROAR...”

”ROAR!”

Several Beach Fishmen had spotted Li Miao while wandering and were now lunging at him in a frenzy.

Li Miao’s heart skipped a beat, and he quickly rolled to dodge.

But this time, more than one monster had its sights on him.

Amidst a chorus of roars, one Beach Fishman after another pounced on him.

As the saying goes, three dogs can kill a god, and the current Li Miao was still just a total newbie.

No matter how fast he rolled, he couldn’t evade the simultaneous attacks of so many Beach Fishmen.

And so, he was quickly tackled to the ground. A mob of Beach Fishmen swarmed him and tore him apart.

His senses blurred. Li Miao’s body gradually vanished, turning into a small, faintly glowing pile of Ashes.

[DEATH]

Stunned, Li Miao saw the large word appear in his vision.

It was clearly the word ”DEATH,” but to him, it felt more like it was calling him a ”NOOB”...

”I celebrated too soon.”

Li Miao was filled with regret.

He had rolled right into the area where the Fish People were wandering, but he’d been too busy celebrating to notice.

And just like that, he’d given up his first blood.

This left Li Miao feeling rather dejected.

After observing his surroundings, Li Miao realized he now seemed to be in a Soul Body-like state, floating in mid-air.

[Return to the Spirit Candle and reforge your body.]

[Hint: After death, your equipment and items will be temporarily stored in your ”Wax Ash.” Please retrieve them as soon as possible, or they will disappear after a certain period.]

”Holy crap!”

Seeing the word ”disappear,” Li Miao’s heart sank, and he hurriedly flew toward the Spirit Candle’s location.

Once he reached the Spirit Candle, he quickly chose to reforge his body.

[Wax Oil -2]

[Body reforging...]

His vision went dark. When Li Miao opened his eyes again, he was standing in front of the Spirit Candle.

He rushed back to where he had died and touched the pile of Wax Ash. His familiar blade and the Fishman’s Strange Scale were re-equipped onto his body.

This made him breathe a small sigh of relief.

He didn’t have much to his name; he couldn’t afford any losses...

...

Luo Ge also noticed Li Miao’s first death and couldn’t help but smile.

It wasn’t anything unusual; after all, the island was fraught with danger.

But the hint wasn’t actually as dire as Li Miao thought. The Wax Ash could last for a very long time, especially the closer it was to the Spirit Candle.

The reason he provided such a hint was to encourage the players to reduce their number of meaningless deaths.

Because the amount of Wax Oil he currently possessed was still too low...

Then, Luo Ge began to inspect his Spirit Candle interface.

[Spirit Candle]

[Ignition Point: Residual Ash]

[Remaining Wax Oil: 63]

[Spirit Candle Building: None]

[Anchor Islands: 0]

[Candle Spirits Summoned: 1]

After several hours of fierce fighting, the amount of Wax Oil Luo Ge had accumulated had reached 63, and he would soon be able to summon a second player.

This total naturally included the Wax Oil contributed by the little player, Li Miao... After all, monsters like the Beach Fishman would sometimes drop two units of Wax Oil, but Li Miao could only acquire one...

Luo Ge felt a twinge of guilt about this, but he had no other choice.

Only by doing this could he use the excess Wax Oil to summon more players and develop other functions.

Otherwise, what was the point of summoning players in the first place?
