Algorithm system

The two masters’ considerationsUnder Lin Yuan and Good Group’s stubborn clash, the final exam quickly became an insignificant minor matter.

Dean Li, upon learning of Lin Yuan’s decision, immediately jumped up and clapped his hands. This was certainly not to celebrate, but because he truly hadn’t expected Lin Yuan to make such a decision.

”Zhang Deshun, Zhang Deshun, it’s fine that you’ve been muddled for half your life, but Lin Yuan is still young. Do you have to ruin him to be happy?”

When truly faced with a problem, Lin Yuan finally realized: Old Li, this old man, was actually quite decent. He was genuinely considering him. Although... Old Li’s perspective on the problem was a bit too worldly.

Dean Li had a big argument with Professor Zhang behind closed doors over this.

”Little Lin is a talented and smart child, young and earning a high salary, full of vigor. Letting him stumble badly now won’t hurt him. Even if you don’t do anything, just watching from the side, I would still respect you as a mentor who has fulfilled his duty. But look at what you’re doing now.

What kind of terrible idea did you give him? Letting him seek a joint venture with open-source communities? What can this bunch of open-source people in China achieve? Open source has been talked about for so many years, but what have they actually produced? They are all a bunch of people who will do anything for benefits. You’re letting Little Lin go to them for a joint venture. Aren’t you pushing him into a fire pit?”

Dean Li seemed very agitated, and Professor Zhang fell into deep thought upon hearing his words.

”What you said makes sense. This bunch of open-source people in China really can’t be helped...”

”Then hurry up and come with me to persuade Lin Yuan to turn back.”

Unexpectedly, Professor Zhang replied, ”Then I think Lin Yuan can open source the algorithm to foreign networks. It’s a community of shared future for mankind, benefiting all humanity.”

Dean Li angrily slapped the table hard, ”Benefit all humanity my foot! You’re going to make Little Lin offend how many IT companies? Does he still want to work in this industry in the future? How will the school view him? A nail that sticks out? Old Zhang, don’t you understand the principle of keeping a low profile?”

Professor Zhang was unconcerned, ”I now feel that I took some wrong paths before, so I’ve decided to support Little Lin’s decision. A young person’s spirit cannot be lost. Even if he hits a wall and turns back later, that’s a matter for the future. If he can knock down the wall in front of him now, then he should knock it down first.”

”You’re already so old, yet you’re still acting like those young people. What wrong path did you take? Your only wrong path was not being pretentious...”

”My only wrong path was not going along with you people. It was like this with the OCR matter. I was soft-hearted, seeing that you were old and still thinking about getting a full-time position before retirement. I softened my heart and told you about it, which resulted in so many subsequent problems.

I had to consider you and also ensure the matter could proceed. I had no choice but to bring in Old Wang, and Little Lin got entangled with that little girl, Zhang Yan, because of it. Who knows how many more troubles will arise in the future.”

At this point, the truth about the OCR matter finally came to light.

When Lin Yuan first discovered the anomaly, Professor Zhang conducted a simple investigation himself and indeed found problems with the OCR. Originally, he should have reported it directly and truthfully, but out of consideration for his many years of friendship with Dean Li, he went along with him.

As a result, it led to today’s complicated situation.

”What is Zhang Yan’s background? She’s the child of Old Wang, the old leader. Little Lin is now involved with her. I was originally worried that he might be muddle-headed and unable to handle it at such a young age. Now, it turns out he’s a child with a resilient character. Seeing his courage in dealing with this Good Group matter, I can finally rest assured.

Even if something happens between him and Zhang Yan in the future, with this steadfast character, he won’t go astray.”

Professor Zhang pointed at Dean Li, half-lecturing, half-scolding, ”I think you should go to the philosophy department for a year of advanced study. Don’t you understand the principle that misfortune is what fortune leans on? Don’t keep agitating Little Lin every day. Capable people will have plenty of opportunities in the future; the key is to hold onto their original intentions.

How many temptations will Little Lin face by Zhang Yan’s side? One lapse in control, and it’s a bottomless abyss. He’s a child from the countryside; what does he know about intrigue? All he can rely on are the four words: ’never forget the original intention.’

Therefore, this matter with Good Group is his touchstone. That’s why I want to support him in being stubborn. If he can’t be firm on such a small matter, he’ll face many more temptations in the future, and one misstep could lead to ruin. Do you really want to see him appear on TV one day, standing in the defendant’s dock?”

Only then did Dean Li realize, ”So you knew all along. Alas, I’ve argued with you for half my life, but our paths are ultimately different. Old Zhang, you seem like a reckless man, but in some matters, you are truly not as good as me. You are truly terrified.”

”Hmph,” Dean Li snorted, ”Both of us started working in the early nineties. Haven’t we heard enough about the past from those old professors? Haven’t we seen enough? Was the path you took for half your life to become a Vice Dean easy?”

Dean Li froze, his eyes vacant, as if lost in thought.

After a long while, he said, ”Precisely because it wasn’t easy, I can’t bear to see Little Lin squander opportunities.”

”You’re right, Old Li, our paths are ultimately different. We both saw the same scene. I withdrew, too lazy to get involved. You summarized the experience and lessons, encouraging Lin Yuan to get involved better.

You two keep stirring things up, but has history turned a new page?

If you really want to write something new in history books, you still have to rely on scientific progress.

And for science to progress, it first depends on one’s character. If you compromise this time, you’ll compromise next time, and every time. Finally, when you’re over fifty, you’ll become like us.”

Dean Li’s brows furrowed, ”No matter what you say. Aren’t you just an old disgruntled youth trying to make up for your own regrets, tricking your apprentice into charging forward?”

Professor Zhang sneered, ”Aren’t you, an old fox, also trying to make up for your own regrets, tricking my apprentice into becoming your apprentice, and instigating him to bow down? We’re both the same.”

At this point, Dean Li also felt relieved.

”Forget it, arguing back and forth won’t lead to any results anyway. We can’t live another fifty years. Since Little Lin has already made his decision, you help him contact the open-source community. I’ll go around the education system, use my influence, lean on the national policy of industrial upgrading and technological iteration, and tell Good Group not to be too presumptuous.”

After arguing for a long time, the two finally reached a united front.

And Lin Yuan, at this moment, was being pulled by Zhang Yan, strolling around the campus, sitting on the lakeside grass, and walking under the fallen plane trees.

”Senior Brother, you’re really manly. You should stand firm against them until the end.” Zhang Yan, of course, supported Lin Yuan’s current decision.

Lin Yuan looked at her expression, ”Do you know how powerful Good Group is? It’s a giant beast with a market value of over a trillion.”

”That’s why I said you’re manly.”

”Aren’t you afraid Senior Brother will be crushed by this giant beast?”

”No.” Zhang Yan made a gesture of pulling out a gun, ”No matter how powerful the beast, the hunter has a gun in his hand.”

”Bang~” ”Whoosh~”

Lin Yuan sighed, ”You’re right. On one side is money, on the other side is a gun. I only have technology, and I can’t afford to offend anyone...”

”No, Senior Brother. I’m not shooting at you.”
