Affinity: Chaos

Chapter 1797 Planning An Ambush

At the foot of the hill.

The six old men from the McCall Family were still standing there, all wearing complicated expressions.

”Why did he have to come now?” The old man dressed in blue asked with a voice filled with pain.

The others could understand the old manʼs pain. In truth, they were also not in favor of letting Grey use this place. Unfortunately, they realized that they werenʼt Greyʼs opponent, and if not for Grey trying to be courteous, he wouldʼve sneaked in and out without their knowledge. In fact, the old man Grey saved believed that if he hadnʼt been on the verge of self-destructing when Grey appeared, then Grey might truly not make an appearance in front of them.

”If he had waited just a few more days we wouldʼve succeeded.” The old man in blue couldnʼt accept the fact that their years of blood and sweat were for nothing. The deaths of multiple Ancestors from their Family has been for nothing over the past few hundred years.

”Fate is cruel. Itʼs already great he saved little Henryʼs life and is not holding a grudge for us intruding on his Ancestorʼs final resting place.” The Old man in black sighed, there was no way they could fight against Grey. In the presence of supreme strength, everything is futile. Being well aware of this, he didnʼt bother to show any resistance since Grey didnʼt show any malicious intent towards them and had been sincere. Unknown to them, Grey wasnʼt really from the Vaergahl Family.

Grey didnʼt bother to tell them as he felt it would only create some complications. Not wanting any delay, he assumed the position of a member of the Vaergahl Family.

The people from this secret world do not have a clue about the existence of a place like the Aurora Continent. There was no way they would be able to confirm if he was truly related to the genius from the Vaergahl Family or not.

”Do you think that if we enter now we can beat him into the residence?” The Old man in blue simply didnʼt want to give up. This was the only opportunity their Family had if they wanted to rise once again, yet it was being snatched right in front of them. The thought of this, indeed, is hard to accept, especially when they were so close to success.

”Do you think we have a chance against him?” The Old man in black asked with cold eyes.

Before the Old man in blue could reply, the Old man Grey stopped from self-destructing who was referred to as Henry answered, ”He entered and left the City Lordʼs Manor without a scratch after publicly going against them. This alone should tell you his strength.”

”What if theyʼre all just scared of his background?” The Old man in blue asked, seeing everyone show a look of interest he continued, ”Think about it, he is so young, yet already in the Sovereign Plane. Only top forces can produce such a genius. If Iʼm not mistaken he should only be a First stage Sovereign. Do you think that we canʼt gain the advantage with the help of the array?”

Everyone fell silent after hearing the Old man in blueʼs questions. In truth, they also knew that Grey was young and powerful. Given their low cultivation stages, they didnʼt know his exact cultivation stage. From his young age, they also felt he would at most be a First or Second stage Sovereign. And anyone from a top force and high enough status can strut in and out of the City Lordʼs Manor as they wished.

Thinking of the possibility, the eyes of the Old man in blue as well as one of the other Old men shone brightly. They could almost see the treasure appearing in front of them. This way, they didnʼt even have to worry about breaking the seal, Grey would go in and bring out the good stuff for them.

Henry frowned after thinking about the implications of the Old man in blueʼs words. In all honesty, he also didnʼt think that Grey was above the level of Sir Xavier, the son of the City Lord. Itʼs common knowledge that Sir Xavier is a Third stage Sovereign. Even a Third stage Sovereign will be put in a difficult position if caught in the array. If not for the fact that they couldnʼt bring out the full strength of the array, who was the City Lord that they needed to fear? Alas, their cultivation realm was too low, so the strength they could pass on to the array was not enough to give it a proper boost.

The idea of taking the treasure was tempting, this was something that has been the lifelong goal of each Family Head, and he was already feeling very proud that it was during his era as Family Head that the seal would finally be broken. In a matter of a few hours, he had not only almost lost his life, but he was saved and then also the golden opportunity that he thought he had acquired for his Family had been taken from his grasp. He didnʼt know how to feel about Grey, all he knew is that they must not go against him.

Henry instantly rejected the idea of them laying an ambush. The Old man in blue and another Old man who were also imagining their new futures frowned upon hearing this.

The Old man in blue turned to look at the Old man in black.

”Weʼre not attacking him. The boy gives me an odd feeling.” The Old man in black said after a short silence. His eyes were closed, but his voice was resolute. From his tone, it was clear that his words were not up for discussion.

The Old man in blue had a bitter look on his face, snorting coldly, he turned around and left.

The others left, leaving behind Henry and the Old man in black.

”Old Will, why did you say he gives you an odd feeling?” Henry asked after everything left.

”I feel like if we even had a Sovereign, we still canʼt trap him.” The Old man referred to as Old Will replied.

The eyes of Henry bulged as he looked deep into the mist covered hill.
