Zhan Shen: It’s Just a Sacrifice, How Can I Become a Villain?

316: Ye Fan’s choiceIn the capital, at Night Watcher Headquarters.

Ye Fan sat in his office, looking at the intelligence reports from the Heroic Spirits Squad, his face unable to hide his shock.

The invasion of Great Xia by the Egyptian Gods, the emergence of the Mysterious Master of Heaven and the Jiejiao, the collective joining of the Great Xia Gods to the Jiejiao, and Song Zhong’s dramatic appearance…

Phew!

Ye Fan leaned back in his chair and let out a long breath.

He secretly pinched his thigh; it hurt a little, which meant all of this was real.

The Egyptian God Kingdom was destroyed, the Egyptian Gods had fallen, and in this world, there was no longer any trace of them.

It was hard to imagine that just a while ago, Great Xia was still shrouded in the shadow of the great chaos at Xuehan Pass, but now, such a formidable opponent had completely vanished.

“If someone were to tell me now that all of this was a dream, I’d probably believe them…”

Ye Fan sighed and shifted his gaze back to the dossier on his desk.

The cover of the dossier had two large red characters: “Song Zhong!”

Ever since this name entered the Night Watcher’s sight, his shadow had been behind almost every major event.

Now, he had grown to a height that Ye Fan found difficult to reach.

“I wonder what astonishing actions this guy will take next.”

Just as Ye Fan was about to pick up Song Zhong’s dossier, he heard an urgent knock on the door.

“Commander, something terrible has happened. Abnormal situations have appeared in many parts of Great Xia.”

“Abnormal situations? What kind of abnormal situations?” Ye Fan couldn’t help but feel nervous seeing Zuo Qing so flustered.

At this critical juncture, any abnormal situation could not be underestimated.

“These are intelligence reports from Night Watchers in several directions: an inexplicable red light appeared in the direction of the Kunlun Mountains in the northwest, the Great Xia Yangtze River suddenly stopped flowing, the vegetation in a mountain range in Lingnan suddenly withered completely, and a sea area along the East Sea coast suddenly became extremely murky…”

Ye Fan frowned, “All these abnormal situations appeared simultaneously?”

Zuo Qing nodded, “The reports all have precise times. These abnormal situations all appeared an hour ago, with a time difference of no more than ten minutes.”

“Kunlun red light, Yangtze River cutoff, withered vegetation, turbid seawater, these…could it be…”

Ye Fan stood up from his chair and said worriedly, “Dragon Vein National Luck, could it be that Great Xia National Luck has a problem?”

“Commander, from these situations, it’s very likely. Moreover, from the Heroic Spirits Squad’s previous intelligence, that outer god named Amon tampered with the Dragon Vein National Luck.”

“Damn it!” Ye Fan slammed his hand on the table, “The Dragon Vein National Luck is Great Xia’s; if something happens, how can we explain it to the Night Watcher’s predecessors?”

“But we currently have no solution. This…” Zuo Qing sighed. National Luck was ethereal, and even most Deities were helpless, let alone Night Watchers who were Mortals?

Ye Fan’s gaze was firm, as if he had made a decision.

“There is a way.”

Zuo Qing was stunned, staring blankly at Ye Fan. Could the Commander actually have a way to solve the problem of the Dragon Vein National Luck?

“Zuo Qing, how long have you been stuck at half-step pinnacle?” Ye Fan suddenly changed the subject to an unrelated topic.

“Commander, is now really the time to discuss this?” Zuo Qing was somewhat at a loss.

“No, now is exactly the time. Tell me, how long have you been stuck at half-step pinnacle?” Ye Fan’s tone was undeniable.

Seeing Ye Fan’s firm attitude, Zuo Qing could only reply, “Almost… two and a half years…”

“Two and a half years?” Ye Fan listened to Zuo Qing’s answer, scrutinized him carefully, and then suddenly smiled, “It seems you can take that step at any time, right?”

Zuo Qing smiled a little awkwardly, “Commander, I still want to work under you for a few more years.”

Zuo Qing’s words were not to show off, but sincere.

If he were promoted to a human pinnacle, he would no longer be able to serve as the head of the operations department, but would instead, like Master Lu Wuwei, go to a war pass to guard a region.

In any case, it would be impossible for him to continue serving under Ye Fan.

“You fellow…” Ye Fan looked at Zuo Qing with a hint of anger, but more so with doting affection, “You know, I’ve long listed you as one of the Commander candidates.”

Hearing Ye Fan suddenly bring this up, Zuo Qing suddenly had a bad premonition.

“Commander, what do you mean by that? The Night Watcher cannot be without you…”

Ye Fan shook his head, “As a Night Watcher Commander, the destiny of all Commanders is the same; you know this best.”

There was only one destiny for a Night Watcher Commander: the Heroic Spirits Squad.

Even if their body perished, their Soul had to merge into the Great Xia National Luck to protect Great Xia’s safety.

And to ensure that each Commander could successfully become a Heroic Spirit after death, they had to take a forbidden medicine daily.

This forbidden medicine would deposit its power into the Soul. When the Commander died, the medicine’s power would be activated, causing the user’s Soul to enter a state of “suspended animation.”

At this point, by using a secret method, the remnant Soul could be activated, and the remnant Soul would be forcibly extended for ten hours. They would then use these ten hours to complete the process of transforming the remnant Soul into a Heroic Spirit.

Both the side effects of taking the forbidden medicine and the process of transforming the remnant Soul after death would bring immense pain to the person.

However, every generation of Commander would persevere through this process without hesitation. This was the resolve of a Night Watcher Commander.

Hearing Ye Fan bring up this topic, Zuo Qing already knew what Ye Fan was going to do.

“Commander, you’re going to actively transform into a Heroic Spirit?” Zuo Qing’s voice trembled slightly, and his eyes were already filled with tears.

“Everyone must die, and I don’t think I’ll be one of those whose death is lighter than a feather.” Ye Fan said with a smile, “Currently, the only one who can save Great Xia’s Dragon Vein National Luck is probably me. After all, only I, Ye Fan, have been recognized by the Turning Fate Pearl!

Little Zuo…”

Ye Fan gently patted Zuo Qing’s shoulder, “The burden of the Night Watcher Commander is now entrusted to you. All those obstacles from the old era, I have already cleared for you. You can now unleash your full potential and achieve your ideals and ambitions.”

“Commander…” Zuo Qing was already sobbing, not knowing what to say.

Ye Fan shook his head, “Don’t be sad for me. Only by transforming into a Heroic Spirit can I refine the Turning Fate Pearl into the Dragon Vein National Luck, and only then can the power of the Turning Fate Pearl be maximized, pointing a Dao for Great Xia National Luck in the web of destiny.”

Ye Fan’s eyes gleamed with determination, “This is the only hope for Great Xia National Luck. My life aside, even if it costs a greater price, it’s worth it!”
