Warlock Apprentice

Chapter 2691: Chapter 2692: Furious from Embarrassment

Angel paused for a moment, looking down in some confusion.

He saw that the bottom of his wand was suddenly entwined by a vine sprouting faint green buds.

The vine... Angel seemed to realize something and turned to look.

No one was behind him.

Only a long trailing vine, hanging down, extending all the way to the Hanging Jail Stairway.

Angel looked at the vine, the end of which was unknown, and raised his eyebrows slightly. Without hesitation, he turned around directly and headed toward the end of the vine.

As Angel moved away, the vine would tug his wand. Yet, when Angel returned, the vine retreated like ebbing water.

Leaving only a vine shadow with green buds, guiding Angel’s direction forward.

As Angel delved deeper into the Hanging Jail Stairway, his figure gradually disappeared into the darkness.

...

”Why hasn’t he come out yet?” Vay stretched his neck to look toward the door.

At this point, a minute had passed since the live broadcast’s closing ceremony. Even Kaier had been out for quite a while, but Angel’s figure had yet to appear, causing everyone to suspect something.

Did something unexpected happen to Angel? Or did the Wise Sovereign act secretly?

But the Wise Sovereign had said earlier that he wanted to communicate with Angel, so acting directly seems unlikely.

”Could it be that Angel’s computing power was overexerted, and he needs to adjust his state after closing the live broadcast?” It was Kaier speaking, his words were tactful, but everyone understood his real meaning—

Did Angel keep holding on until the live illusionary realm was closed, finally relaxed, and then encountered an accident?

For example, he fainted.

In other words, is Angel maintaining a facade to keep up appearances while suffering?

”Probably not.” Though Dox hoped this was the case, from various previous details, Angel didn’t seem like someone who would insist to such an extent.

”From my understanding, he’s not the kind of person who would hold on unnecessarily. When he can save effort, he absolutely wouldn’t flaunt his strength.” He might even purposely feign weakness to avoid certain troublesome matters, not caring at all about others’ opinions.

”Do you really believe what he said about computing power consumption?” Dox shrugged: ”Anyway, I don’t believe it.”

Actually, of the present apprentices, only two were still half-convinced, everyone else knew clearly that Angel’s claims of massive computing power consumption were problematic. If it was truly so high, would the structure of the Illusion Node be so smooth, and the energy transfer so stable? Remember, Angel was live-streaming across Other-dimensional Space, the illusionary realm was nearly flawless, even when Dox ”died” twice and had to run two corpse-escapes, the illusionary realm during these escapes was extremely realistic.

Would Angel create an ”escaping corpse” scenario as a cruel joke if his computing power was truly that depleted?

Thus, all Official Wizards present could see clearly. Angel might consume some computing power, but it wouldn’t be as substantial as he claimed, his statement was clearly exaggerated.

Moreover, Dox deeply suspected that Angel’s final ”closing ceremony” and the phrase ”What does the streamer’s affair have to do with me, Angel,” were actually meant to convey: it’s all an act, everything was a performance intended to disclaim responsibility.

Though Dox and the Black Earl didn’t care, who knows whether the Wise Sovereign would care?

Angel’s disclaimer was preemptively used to block the Wise Sovereign’s objections. To prevent the Wise Sovereign from flipping out over trivial matters.

——Such situations where minor matters lead to flip outs are not rare in the Wizards’ Realm. Some cases are genuinely intolerable deceit, but more often it’s opportunistic, finding an excuse to reduce their dues, clearly gaining without losing.

”So why hasn’t he come out yet?” Vay wondered, ”Also, there’s no response when calling him through the Mind Ribbon.”

As Vay spoke, he turned to look at the Black Earl, because being the controller of the Mind Ribbon, he should be able to roughly sense Angel’s current status and location.

”He’s actively blocked the Mind Ribbon, and he’s not near the entrance of the 0th layer right now.”

The Black Earl simply resolved the major doubts of the group.

Angel is alive, and his lack of response to Vay’s call was due to his active blocking of the Mind Ribbon. Furthermore, Angel did not leave but rather re-entered the Hanging Jail Stairway.

The first two pieces of information can be set aside, the most pressing concern now is why Angel hasn’t come out and instead delved deeper into the Hanging Jail Stairway?

This question couldn’t be answered by the Black Earl, who could only vaguely sense Angel’s direction. The answer to why Angel chose to re-enter the Hanging Jail Stairway currently lies only with the Wise Sovereign.

So the group shifted their gaze to the Wise Sovereign outside the Earth Ring Wall.

This sight left everyone stunned.

The Wise Sovereign was repeatedly taking out odd-shaped eyeglasses from his spatial artifact. Some had octopus arms for frames, others had small wings by the spectacles, and some had books opening below the frames... all of these were three-lensed glasses, their unique designs were rather surprising.

Yet, these external features weren’t important; what mattered was whatever the Wise Sovereign was doing?

They watched him put on a pair of glasses, all three lenses glowing, then discard them. He took out another pair, the lenses glowed, and he discarded them again.

Were it not for the Wise Sovereign’s solemn and somewhat serious expression, they might have thought he was simply showing off his spectacles.

Silently watching the Wise Sovereign change through nearly ten pairs of glasses, finally when he put on a heart-shaped pair, he halted, stood in deep contemplation.

This scene was quite bizarre, as the heart-shaped glasses were even pink.

A slender youth with three eyes, wearing glasses full of girlish charm, wearing a solemn expression... forget Vay, Kaier, Dox the ”youngsters,” even the Black Earl found it hard to look directly.

Though from the Wise Sovereign’s glasses-swapping speed and the direction he was gazing, it was evident that he likely wasn’t aware of which frames he had swapped to.

The heart-shaped glasses seemed to be swapped in unconsciously.

”Should we still ask the Wise Sovereign?” Vay asked in the Mind Ribbon.

Dox: ”Cough... maybe wait a bit? Interrupting the Wise Sovereign now doesn’t seem like a wise idea.”

Even Dox, who generally loved to watch a commotion or a joke, said so. Naturally, others understood that interrupting the Wise Sovereign now and making him realize what glasses he was wearing wasn’t a good idea.

All eyes were withdrawn, no one looked toward the Wise Sovereign’s direction anymore, silently praying that the Wise Sovereign would soon realize what glasses he was wearing... Also to not become embarrassed and angry due to this.

Even the Black Earl was considering if, when the Wise Sovereign actually acted later, it would be better to die quickly so his True Body could arrive promptly?

Watching such grand figures as a joke held risks greater than verbally challenging them directly.

If the Black Earl saw himself in an embarrassing state, he would definitely eliminate anyone who saw it to prevent his awkward image from being spread.

Therefore, the Black Earl was planning for his avatar to die quickly, so his true body could come to the rescue. Due to his oath with Angel, he couldn’t contact his true body, and could only do so if his avatar perished.

At this moment, they were not as concerned about Angel but more focused on the Wise Sovereign’s actions.

Time slowly passed by.

Everyone endured a tense five minutes, then the Black Earl suddenly spoke in the Mind Ribbon: ”Angel is very close to the entrance.”

This meant that five minutes after Angel had re-entered the Hanging Jail Stairway, he finally returned to the 0th floor. It also meant that Angel might soon leave the Hanging Jail Stairway and return to the outside world.

For the moment, let’s not discuss what Angel did. What they hoped for more was...

”Should we remind the Lord?” Vay asked in the Mind Ribbon.

As for what to remind him of, it was obvious that it was related to the Wise Sovereign.

However, before they could say anything, Dox said, ”It’s too late, he’s already out.”

In the next moment, they heard a familiar and clear voice right by their ears. Yes, it was heard directly in their ears, not through the Mind Ribbon.

”Oh, this style is quite unique, I didn’t expect the Wise Sovereign to appreciate this kind of style.”

Everyone: ”...”

At this moment, they all looked down, unable to bear witnessing the scene over there.

A few seconds later, they all felt a burst of aura surging into the sky. The surrounding Magical Energy Arrays became active with the aura’s eruption, continuously gathering energy...

Without a doubt, the burst of aura came from the Wise Sovereign.

Black Earl: ”I’m going to reinforce the Earth’s Ring Wall. Once the spatial energy stabilizes, Dox, be ready to release the Plane Corridor.”

At this point, the Black Earl couldn’t bother addressing titles, directly calling Dox by name and prepared himself for potential self-sacrifice.

Dox wore a bitter expression, as the Plane Corridor’s materials were expensive, and the Black Earl mentioned nothing about reimbursement, meaning he would have to cover the cost himself.

But there was no option, even if he didn’t save others, he had to save himself.

Reluctantly, Dox nodded, despite his heart aching. Secretly thinking, perhaps he could get Angel to reimburse? No, whether Angel survives is another issue... Or maybe seek reimbursement from Sanders at the Barbarian Cave?

Even though Dox felt the pinch, when it came to critical moments, he didn’t hesitate, directly taking out the materials while constructing the Plane Corridor model in his Mind Space. To quickly complete the Plane Corridor construction, Dox activated the Rainbow Furnace Stone, and rainbow beams fluttered like silk strands, faintly constructing a rainbow-like bridge in mid-air.

”Rainbow Door,” the Black Earl was a bit surprised. He thought the Plane Corridor opened by Dox would be the ’Tunnel of Falsehood,’ which uses the Illusory Gemstone as the primary material. It’s comparatively cheaper, though the Plane Corridor would open in the internal layers of a world, where any world’s internal layers are limited, making it relatively easy to track.

Whereas the Rainbow Door opened by the Rainbow Furnace Stone connects to the external layers, which link to the Void and are infinite, making tracking more difficult comparatively.

Besides, the efficiency of opening the Rainbow Door and the speed of stabilization of the space are much faster than those of the Tunnel of Falsehood opened by Void Gemstones.

”I still have some resources,” Dox laughed a smile that didn’t reach his eyes.

”Since it’s the Rainbow Door, I’ll try to bring Angel over later,” said the Black Earl. ”If possible, try to save him too.”

Seeing Dox didn’t react much, the Black Earl said, ”Angel will reimburse you for your losses.”

This time, Dox perked up, replying with a stern expression, ”Understood.”

Actually, even without incentives, Dox would find a way to save Angel, as he had decided to rely on him. After managing this relationship for so long, he couldn’t let it break. With the incentive, he was even less likely to refuse.

Angel, being wealthy, probably wouldn’t mind these material costs... right?

Here, the Rainbow Door was already taking shape; once the space stabilized, Dox could open the Plane Corridor at any time.

On the other side, Angel was also startled by this sudden commotion.

What were the Wise Sovereign and Dox up to? Could it be that while he was inside the Hanging Jail Stairway, something intense had unfolded outside?

While Angel was full of doubt, the Black Earl had already reached the edge of the Earth’s Ring Wall, ready to forcibly break through the Wise Sovereign’s energy blockade and pull Angel into the Rainbow Door.

But before the Black Earl could act, there came a ”Ah!” scream.

With the abrupt scream falling, the soaring aura of the Wise Sovereign instantly turned solid. This sudden change was like boiling water transformed into ice water in the next second.

While the Black Earl looked confused, he saw a familiar... large matchman walk out from the distant Hanging Jail Stairway’s door.

The scream just now was from the matchman.

At this moment, the matchman was retreating in terror, with half of its foot already back into the Hanging Jail Stairway.

Seeing this, Angel quickly spun around, got to the matchman’s side, and grabbed it, pulling it back out while it was disoriented.

However, the matchman’s strength seemed enormous. Angel merely pulled it half a step back from the door, as it could rush back into the Hanging Jail Stairway at any time.

Seeing this, Angel quickly reassured the matchman. Then he said to the Wise Sovereign:

”This time, I really brought the Wood Spirit out. If the Wise Sovereign scares it back due to its own reason, this can’t be blamed on me.”

After Angel finished speaking, the previously icy atmosphere gradually warmed back up.

In the distance, the Wise Sovereign let out a deep breath, nonchalantly removing the heart-shaped glasses and acting as if nothing happened, put them back into the space.

Angel: ”Hey, why did you take them off? I thought you wore them specially to welcome the Wood...”

Before Angel could finish, the Black Earl interrupted him: ”That’s not important, tell us about your situation first. How did you manage to bring it out?”

The Black Earl looked at the Wood Spirit.

Now they understood why the Wise Sovereign suddenly pulled back its aura; undoubtedly, it was because of the Wood Spirit’s appearance.

This also showed that the Wise Sovereign valued the Wood Spirit more than they had imagined.

This was also a benefit. Without the Wood Spirit, the Wise Sovereign might have really lashed out... even if those glasses were worn by themselves.
