Chapter 1196: Section 1197 Limited Scope

In the terrified eyes of the Lord of the Flameless, a dazzling white light was reflected.

Boom, boom——

After the intense explosion, a dust-devil of fire rose.

On instinct, Greerwu and Popota both shielded their eyes until the energy storm had somewhat abated, then they slowly opened them.

The first thing Greerwu looked for was the direction of the shop owner.

When he saw the tall figure, Greerwu breathed a sigh of relief. The shop owner was still standing not far in front of it, unmoved from where he’d been before the fierce explosion.

As for the figure of the Lord of the Flameless, Greerwu didn’t see it.

On the other side, Popota had witnessed everything. He had opened his eyes before Greerwu and thus clearly saw the porcelain-white figure of the Lord of the Flameless being blown backwards by the explosion, landing outside of Greerwu’s field of vision.

In Popota’s view, the Lord of the Flameless didn’t seem to be grievously injured, but this was probably the most disheveled appearance it had since making its debut.

Even the porcelain-white armor now had what seemed like web-like cracks running through it.

Popota’s eyes bulged, what exactly had happened before? Why had Angel suddenly changed completely, even managing to repel the Lord of the Flameless?

Could it be that Angel had actually used a Mysterious Object? Popota immediately dismissed this guess.

Although his current physical body was constantly collapsing, and his previously elevated power was declining, sensing the atmosphere of the scene was still no issue. He didn’t feel the presence of any Demon God’s aura except for that of the Lord of the Flameless, not even Angel’s aura had changed in the slightest.

How did Angel do it?

Popota looked over with a shocked gaze. Angel was still standing quietly, as if nothing had happened… The only change Popota vaguely noticed was a Phantom Shadow behind him.

…

The Lord of the Flameless, having been blown away, only managed to arrest its uncontrollable movement after several seconds and finally stopped dozens of meters away.

Just as Popota had said, the Lord of the Flameless appeared unscathed on the outside.

But only the Lord of the Flameless knew what had been lost… Its peripheral vision glanced at the porcelain-white armor on its chest, where cracks had appeared, but most crucially, in those cracks, it saw several slowly disappearing green patterns.

Yes, green patterns!

Just before, the Lord of the Flameless had launched a ferocious blow at Angel, who gave no response except to coldly look up. Just as it thought its strike would cleave Angel in half, the attack was suddenly blocked.

Mysterious green patterns leapt out from Angel’s eyes.

Each pattern was different, and once they emerged from his gaze, they hopped and spun joyfully, weaving layer upon layer of dense green stripes.

These green stripes, like vines, directly blocked the attack of the Lord of the Flameless.

The Lord of the Flameless had used its own body’s power, its scythe-like hands, to deliver the blow. It could feel just how tenacious that vine was.

According to the Lord of the Flameless’s adjustment of power levels, that strike could’ve carved out a dozens of meters deep crater if it hit the ground!

That was only the clash of physical strength; its attack naturally carried a trace of its Law Domain’s characteristic—Flameless Fire. Although due to the limitations of this avatar, the Lord of the Flameless couldn’t fully bring its Law Domain to bear, it had still exerted the ultimate power of this body and Law Domain!

Yet, even so, its attack was blocked.

For the Lord of the Flameless, this was unimaginable. It was like an ant lifting its hair-thin limbs and lifting a giant troll as tall as a mountain.

Absurd and fantastical, utterly ludicrous!

Even if Angel had invoked a Mysterious Object, allowing the will of the Cruel Scholar to descend, the Lord of the Flameless might have felt more at ease, for at least it would have been a fight at the same level! But on second thought, if the Cruel Scholar had really descended in will, setting aside whether they would have been able to fight, even if they did, how much Demon God’s power could a single Mysterious Object hold? Whether it could withstand the strike from before was still uncertain!

Thus, the Lord of the Flameless grew even more strangely uneasy and apprehensive about Angel.

“Just who are you?” the Lord of the Flameless asked solemnly for the first time.

It couldn’t believe that the one opposite was merely a human, and as for the speculation of a “Mysterious Object,” the Lord of the Flameless had utterly dismissed it; the energy fluctuations from before were so strong that if it truly were a Mysterious Object, the aura of mystery would definitely have emanated.

Therefore, the Lord of the Flameless’s only conjecture was the golden-haired Phantom Shadow.

Perhaps, this Phantom Shadow had truly descended from a distant time and space and possessed the human standing before it.

But if it truly were a possession, the Lord of the Flameless would have felt it; the harmony between the flesh and the possessing spirit was easy to distinguish. But there were no traces of possession on this human, his integration of spirit and flesh was flawlessly seamless.

Which means, maybe there was no such thing as possession.

If it was not possession, then what was the Phantom Shadow behind Angel?

Or perhaps… this human was, like itself, an avatar of some great being, otherwise there’s no way the spirit and flesh could be so harmoniously integrated.

The thoughts of the Lord of the Flameless were many, but in reality, very little time had passed.

Upon hearing the question from the Lord of the Flameless, “Angel” slowly raised his head, his features still shrouded in shadow, outline and facial contours indiscernible, save for the piercingly bright light in his right eye.

Angel gave no response to the Lord of the Flameless’s question.

On the contrary, it was the Lord of the Flameless who spoke, prompting Angel to notice Him.

A new green pattern, even more complex than before, leaked out from Angel’s eyes.

To the likes of Greerwu or Popota, what they saw were merely patterns of green that formed “vines,” but the Lord of the Flameless could minutely observe that these seemingly identical vines had inner green patterns that were in fact different.

These green patterns possessed strange shapes and contained exceedingly profound meanings.

The Lord of the Flameless attempted to decipher these green patterns using a certain method of scrutiny but without any result, indicating that the patterns might represent an extremely high-level form of energy communication.

Moreover, the ripples of energy stirred by these green patterns were very slight, only causing a widespread diffusion of energy during contact attacks. This suggested that the green patterns represented a highly versatile method of energy manipulation, which would not easily destroy plane rules and could be broadly applied across countless planes.

While the Lord of the Flameless was pondering, the green patterns had already formed a new structure, like a green ring that was slowly rising from Angel’s hand.

The Lord of the Flameless’s expression was solemn, ready for battle.

After some probing, the Lord of the Flameless no longer underestimated the human across from Him.

The reason the Lord of the Flameless had not launched an offensive was to use the incident with the green patterns to test Angel’s attack methods and styles.

However, to the Lord of the Flameless’s surprise, the ring formed by the green patterns was not an attack.

The ring of green patterns floated up high into the sky, and while the Lord of the Flameless was wondering, it suddenly transformed, expanding countless times in an instant! A single green pattern hung aloft, while the remainder descended like a Protective Cover from high above.

The Lord of the Flameless and Angel were both enveloped within this immense “Green Ring.”

Behind the Lord of the Flameless was a wall of green patterns, full of activity. He tested it with the tip of His tail blade, but even using all His strength, He could not break through the wall of green patterns.

His eyebrows gradually furrowed, as He had expected a powerful counterattack, but instead, the human had preemptively limited His range of movement.

Or perhaps, limited His… escape.

“Do you have such confidence to detain me here?” the Lord of the Flameless asked with an icy expression, looking at Angel who stood in opposition.

As His words ended, a terrifying black shadow slowly rose behind the Lord of the Flameless!

The shadow seemed endless, spreading into the deep and dark abyss.

A terrifying roar, as if emanating from the Abyssal Depths, caused a rift to suddenly open in the center of the black shadow—

Chilly green eyes ethereally appeared behind the Lord of the Flameless.

Outside the “Green Ring,” Greerwu watched the dark shadow within the ring with a shocked gaz

e, his lips trembling as he said, “This is… the True Spirit of the Demon God!”

Unlike the True Spirit unsealed by Aoluxiya, this was the actual True Spirit of the Demon God!

For the Demon God, the true body was used for abyssal lurking, the true name for diffusion, while the True Spirit signified awe and intimidation!

During the previous battle between the Lord of the Flameless and Aoluxiya, what had been used was a “pseudo true body,” activated by the bloodline of this avatar of the Lord of the Flameless.

And the true body of the Demon God Lord of the Flameless actually lay hidden within the Abyssal Depths.

But now, the True Spirit of the Demon God summoned by the Lord of the Flameless was not a “pseudo True Spirit,” but the actual True Spirit that had crossed over from the Abyssal Depths!

Without the fury of a thunderstorm, the True Spirit of the Demon God would not possibly appear in this world at this time!

…

“I would like to see what means you have to detain me!”

As His voice fell, within the “Green Ring,” the True Spirit of the Demon God began to spread and expand. The black shadow turned into countless tentacles, reaching towards Angel.

Angel’s feet were flashing with green patterns. Undaunted by the black shadow, He stepped directly on it and leaped into the sky.

The black shadow, when touched by the green patterns, emitted a hissing noise as its energy intertwined and was eroded by the green patterns.

In the end, the green patterns vanished, but the consumed black shadow was twice as much as the green patterns!

The Lord of the Flameless had a dark expression, waving a hand to send more rolling black shadows charging at Angel.

Angel, dodging continuously in midair with an elegant gait, avoided the black shadow’s frighteningly fast advances, with none able to touch him.

It appeared as though the Lord of the Flameless was the one attacking and Angel was dodging, but that was not the case.

As Angel dodged the black shadows, green patterns leaped from his body like fireflies being sprinkled, these patterns also penetrated the black shadow in reverse.

One green pattern could dissolve a large swathe of black shadow.

Under the Lord of the Flameless’s dark and icy gaze, Angel approached Him with an elegant step, already within less than ten meters.

Suddenly, a light flashed across Angel’s shadowy features.

The Lord of the Flameless only felt a scoffing laugh in His ears before His eyes were obscured by a brilliance.
