Warlock Apprentice

Chapter 1485: Section 1486 The Courteous Demon Chapter 1485: Section 1486 The Courteous Demon “To craft such a cage with great effort, if one were to deal with this matter personally, it might be somewhat beneath one’s dignity,” said Alex. “I’m inclined to think there should be a cleaner within the cage, arranged by the creator, to purge all those who discover the secret.”

“Of course, it’s also possible that my speculation is wrong. After all, I am not a god, nor can I predict the will of heaven.”

Angel laughed, “I feel like you understand the creator’s heart quite well. So, are you planning to start searching for the real murderer now?”

“I’m considering it, but I haven’t decided whether to act on it. After all, everyone who has gotten close to the truth has died. If I delve any deeper, I might die too… The only exception is you.” As Alex said this, his gaze was deeply fixed on Angel. He had originally been indifferent to Angel’s background, but now, triggered by this event, he wanted to know Angel’s identity.

“I’m just an accidental bystander,” shrugged Angel.

“Will you help me?” Alex’s question seemed casually asked, his tone seemingly calm and untroubled, but his gaze was locked tightly on Angel, trying to discern his true allegiance from Angel’s response.

Was Angel deceiving him? Or was Angel in league with the master of the cage, or even the master himself?

Angel: “If what you intend to do involves finding out specific location information about this place, I can help you.”

Of course, Angel’s willingness to help Alex was predicated on his continued presence here. If some unavoidable force were to cause him to leave prematurely, then there was nothing he could do.

Alex observed Angel silently for a few seconds before nodding gently, “Thank you.”

Although Angel’s answer wasn’t a direct offer of help, to determine the location information would inevitably mean seeking out the truth of the cage.

In the following time, Alex seemed resolved to crack the case and find the truth.

He brought out a box of files and, as Angel watched, he realized these files were all from the series of murder cases Alex had been collecting.

“Didn’t you say you weren’t curious about these murder cases? Why then have you organized so much data?” Angel asked with a slightly teasing tone.

Alex paused for a moment: “Initially, collecting information was because I thought they might implicate me, given that I believed the murderer selected his victims without any pattern, and I, too, might be one of his targets.”

“However, as the information accumulated, I discovered his secret method of killing, and as long as I avoid certain actions, I won’t invite any trouble. Therefore, I continued collecting information strictly as a hobby.”

A hobby? Angel noticed that when Alex uttered this word, he was completely emotionless.

Utterly different from the compassion he showed when comforting Mrs. Connie before.

Utterly cold.

Angel: “Your hobby is to write about their deaths with a pen? That doesn’t sound like a priest who’s supposed to relieve the worries of all beings.”

Alex: “Priest is just an outward profession, what lies within can be anything. At least, I wouldn’t trouble the faithful without reason.”

“As I recall, there are only two priests in the Crua Church, and you count as a seminary priest. As for the other one, that’s Father Berenger. So, the person you’re referring to, the one who would trouble others, are you talking about him?”

Alex’s lips curved slightly, but he said nothing.

Recalling the past profound interactions between Berenger and Alex, Angel suddenly found it very interesting.

Alex was not only thoughtful but also very adept at restraint and moderation. He seemed to interact intimately with people, but his emotions were, in fact, very cold. He was enthusiastic only about goals he deemed worthy, seemingly indifferent to everything else, even if it were an emergency.

Much like a devil, polite and refined.

However, this devil didn’t normally consume others, but that certainly didn’t mean he respected them.

Of course, a devil is a devil, and if necessary, Alex would kill without hesitation.

Just as Alex himself said, he wouldn’t cause trouble to the faithful “without cause,” but what if there was a cause?

Before they knew it, the next day had arrived.

Angel floated in the confessional of the Cruy church, watching silently as Alex inadvertently revealed the late Knight Raven’s last wish to Mrs. Connie.

A demon, no matter how polite, still has its fangs, as was the case at this moment.

“Holy Scripture Chapter One Hundred Thirty-Two… The Father once told His followers that one should live life with as few regrets as possible. Should there be any, even if taken to the Kingdom of God they will still be anxious, or even be led astray by these lingering thoughts.”

After Alex finished speaking, Mrs. Connie looked dazed for a moment, as if she had made up her mind about something.

“Mrs. Connie, what are you thinking about? Let’s continue with the new chapters of the Holy Scripture, so that your grieving heart can be freed from the cage created by Knight Raven sooner rather than later.”

It was only then that Mrs. Connie came back to her senses: “Oh, nothing much, alright, continue reading…”

Before Mrs. Connie left, Alex used an expression of compassionate sorrow to subtly bring up Knight Raven’s last wish once again.

Mrs. Connie left as if deep in thought.

After Mrs. Connie left, Father Berengar came in and chatted with Alex for a bit before patting him on the shoulder and praising him, “Mrs. Connie is very satisfied with your consolation. She just said that during her devoted communication with the Father, she has understood what she needs to do. This is all thanks to you, well done!”

Alex accepted Berengar’s praise with a smile on his face.

When the confessional was left with only Alex, his smile did not fade. He seemed to still be pleased by Father Berengar’s compliments. But what truly made him happy, perhaps only he knew.

“Do you really intend to push Mrs. Connie towards the Abyss of death just like that?”

Angel slowly descended, staring at the still-smiling young man opposite him. The door of the confessional was still open, and a gust of wind from the outside lifted the youth’s long, white hair slightly, complementing his handsome appearance and creating the image of a beautiful painting.

“I haven’t, I merely shared the information I knew about Knight Raven with her. It’s not up to me to decide what she does,” Alex said. “Everyone makes their own life choices. How could I possibly make decisions for someone else?”

The words were beautiful, but was the reality really so?

The easiest way to find the murderer was for another death to occur. When the killer struck, that was also the best time to discern their identity.

And for a new death to occur was actually very simple. As long as it fit the murderer’s logic, a victim could easily be created.

Alex had set his sights on Mrs. Connie.

After losing her beloved son who was in deep mourning, if Alex told Mrs. Connie that Knight Raven’s dying wish was to buy a ticket to the holy hymn chapel for his sweetheart.

Then there was a very good chance that Mrs. Connie would actually buy the ticket, fulfilling her son’s last wish. If Alex then added suggestive prompting, the chance of Mrs. Connie heading to Holy City could rise to over ninety percent.

Once Mrs. Connie left Gust Town for Holy City, she would naturally become a target for the murderer.

That was Alex’s plan. Even though he didn’t spell it out from the beginning, the implications and inferences made his intentions quite clear.

Alex took out paper and a pen and began to write furiously at the table.

Angel glanced over and saw Alex’s plan; he had made Mrs. Connie’s death a given condition, incorporating it into his scheme. It was clear that his words were completely at odds with his thoughts.

Once Alex had finished outlining his plan, he looked at Angel: “Now that Knight Raven has been buried, given Mrs. Connie’s character, she should be preparing to leave upon her return. The time is this afternoon.”

“Mr. Pat, will you be coming with me later?”

To do what? Both Angel and Alex were very clear–they were going to witness the real identity of the murderer.
