In the following days, Kemler and his Ancient Tomb Legion launched an extremely fierce attack. Kemler’s Black Magic pierced through the city walls one after another, and many defenders were instantly swallowed by the beams of Undead Magic, turning into pools of melting blood and decayed bones full of holes. Wave after wave of Zombie Legions and Skeleton Warrior Legions continuously tested the castle’s defenses. Black and gray waves attacked the castle every day like the rise and fall of the tide, never ceasing. The Undead creatures attacked tirelessly and recklessly, causing great damage to the defenders.

However, Montefel Castle persisted tenaciously under the onslaught of the Undead. This castle, standing upon Axe Bite Pass, was reinforced by the First Duke of Montfort, Mark Luther, who strengthened it to towering heights, allowing it to stand silently for thousands of years.

Whenever the enemies breached the main gate, the current Duke of Montfort would have craftsmen reinforce the castle again. Over a thousand years, the castle’s defenses had reached an extreme. The walls were lined with turrets, square towers, and large defensive mechanisms. Dozens of giant catapults hurled stones towards the Undead Army, and dozens of cannons unleashed shells upon the Undead. The sturdiness of Montefel Castle was renowned worldwide. Duke Fulcard had personally led knight charges multiple times to drive the enemies from the ramparts and annihilate them.

The moat was filled with the bodies of the Undead, making it unrecognizable as a moat. Heinrich Kemler, the Undead Grand Mage, stood distantly, gazing at Montefel Castle, his face devoid of expression.

Each attack was fiercer than the last. The majority of the Undead Legions suffered heavy casualties on their way to attack and climb the walls. The sound of arrows and cannon fire echoed like a bloody symphony, composing a war melody beneath Montefel Castle.

Mathew Bade watched Kemler with a cold expression. This Undead Grand Mage had besieged Montefel Castle with his Ancient Tomb Legion for two weeks without more progress.

Mathew Bade had not favored Kemler’s plan to attack Montefel Castle, yet he remained silent. His two Undead Knight Legions and a team of Blood Knights, alongside several Black Chalice Knights, remained inactive.

Kemler had not exhausted his forces in the siege. At the very least, the most elite Spirit-Binding Knight Legion and Stone Tomb Binding Spirit Legion under the Undead Grand Mage had not been deployed. Instead, this army lay in ambush on the outskirts.

Mathew Bade understood Kemler’s plan. The Undead Grand Mage did not truly care about capturing Montefel.

He was waiting for his nemesis, Francois, to arrive!

The Duke of Musillon remained silent, thinking Kemler was still bitter about the battle at La-Mesnil Abbey over twenty years ago. He was so blinded by hatred that perhaps from the very start of the Montefel Castle siege, Kemler’s plan was not to capture the castle.

But rather to lure Francois and engage in a decisive battle with the Duke of Winford.

At first, Mathew Bade scorned Kemler’s intellect, thinking that this Undead Grand Mage truly lacked ambition.

However, the Duke of Musillon then let out a self-mocking laugh. What right did he have to criticize or look down on Kemler? Didn’t he himself become mad out of hatred?

In his teenage years, he had been one of the most skilled, glorious, and devout Ranger Knights!

But everything was a lie. Once the Witch Demon King, who had raised him, revealed the truth about the Lake Fairy, he was stricken with sorrow, driven to frenzy. The lie of the Lake Fairy had deceived this land for millennia. After learning the truth, Mathew Bade resolved to become the King of Brittania and free this land from the Lake Fairy and her lies!

The prolonged siege then brought news to the Central Army.

”A large Knight Army is on its way to support, expected to arrive in three days,” a Corpse Demon whispered in Kemler’s ear.

The reinforcements arrived faster than expected! Upon hearing this news, Mathew Bade’s brow furrowed.

Kemler remained silent for a long time before he raised his head, looking towards the distant Montefel Castle.

”Tomorrow, launch the final assault!”

”Yes!”

......

The next day, amidst the Undead tide attacking the city, the Desolate Grave Guard Legion and Stone Tomb Binding Spirits appeared for the first time. The Desolate Grave Guard Legion was nearly impervious to swords and spears. Ladders, fortified by Undead Magic, were hoisted by these Grave Guards. Under the guidance of the Undead Mages, the Tomb Evil Ghosts hung the ladders high on the walls, and the powerful Desolate Grave Guards marched up them to the battlements.

The Peasant Infantry of Montfort Duchy watched in terrified awe as these rust-armored Grave Guards ascended. They formed tight spear formations to face the formidable foes, but the Grave Guards were just too powerful.

The first robust Grave Guard reached the walls, wielding his giant sword to cut down two Peasant Long Spear Soldiers in one sweep. The remaining peasants charged in a loud cry, turning the battlements into a purgatory of flesh and blood. It took three or four Peasant Infantry to confront a single Grave Guard, yet despite this, the Peasant soldiers of Montfort Duchy suffered heavy losses, with hundreds perishing there.
