The male partner frowned in disbelief. “The idea sounds very abstract. How long should we wait for the reincarnation?”

“One’s life cannot be reincarnated immediately after death. It will take at least a hundred years,” Shen Jiuli answered.

“That is a long time! I am afraid the one who lives will not be able to wait for so long.”

Shen Jiuli gave them a sharp look and said, “Your lifespan will be at least a thousand years. The wait of a century is not too much.”

The couple said nothing further. The separation for a hundred years seemed unbearable. Moreover, one of them would lose all memories of the other half. Who knew what was going to happen in the future? They were both afraid to die or even to wait. Also, they were worried that all efforts would be fruitless.

Shen Jiuli continued to give them another push. “I am telling you now that your gender will be uncertain when either one of you gets reincarnated.”

The couple opened their eyes wide in shock. If the boy chose to die, he could be reincarnated as a girl. At the same time, the girl could become a boy as well. Either way, they would become homosexuals.

In the end, the couple left with their broken hearts. None of them was willing to take the risk, so they had to break up. Ning Xuemo watched as the couple slowly left and sighed. “Their love for one another is not really intense, after all.”

Shen Jiuli pulled his wife close and comforted her. “Not many couples are like us, who are willing to face so many challenges just to be with one another. They only chose to die for love because of an impulse.”

“Father! Mother! Was your marriage made in heaven as well?” Shen Nianmo asked while raising his head to look at the sky.

Shen Jiuli denied. “No.”

Shen Nianmo became even more curious. “So both of you had to endure so many challenges, only to realize that your marriage was not made by heaven? The heavenly law is unfair!”

Shen Jiuli gave him a long, thoughtful look. “Yes, the heavenly law is unreasonable, sometimes. Destinies are made irresponsibly. Your mother and I were once a celestial being and a demon. Both of us should be enemies, so our marriage was certainly not made in heaven.”

Shen Nianmo frowned in bewilderment. “Is the heavenly law a human? Or a God?”

“The heavenly law is an order, but the one who makes the order is a God.”

“Father, you are the guardian of the heavenly law. Have you seen him before?” Shen Nianmo was starting to get excited.

Shen Jiuli responded casually, “I certainly have.”

“Is the person a man or a woman? How does he or she look like? Attractive?” Shen Nianmo was eager to know.

Shen Jiuli sighed. “He likes to take different embodiments and head to different worlds. There are many versions of him, some are ugly, and some are attractive. He could be a child like you, too.”

“He is indeed crazy!” Ning Xuemo could not help but comment. It was the first time for her to hear about the story of the heavenly law, so she was interested as well. “Does he have a name?”

“A name is nothing but a symbol. He has many names and many embodiments.”

“He should have his own name, right?”

“His surname is Di. His guardians acknowledge him as Prince Di. As for his name, he could have one, but he has not told anyone about it. He may have long forgotten about it or is simply reluctant to tell.”

“The man is strange indeed for making so many heavenly laws; even you and I have to be involved.” Ning Xuemo seemed to bear a grudge against the master of heavenly law.

“Xuemo, the heavenly law creates an order. Without an order, the world will fall into chaos. Moreover, the heavenly law has not only restricted you and I. He might have to suffer the same consequences as we do,” Shen Jiuli answered.

Ning Xuemo was not convinced. “He made the heavenly law himself, so why would he be restricted?”
