Gu Xijiu watched on as Mrs. Luo proceeded to braid Di Fuyi’s hair. Luo Xinglan seemed very emotional as she conducted the entire process. Her eyes were filled with tears, and her nose turned red. Nevertheless, she maintained her smile and combed every strand of her daughter’s hair.

Watching her somehow moved Gu Xijiu. No matter what, it was rare for parents not to love their child. When Luo Xinglan lost all her memories from jumping off a cliff and abandoning her children, she should be sorry to her children, not her husband.

All her life, Luo Xinglan had always believed in love. She turned against her parents to marry Gu Xietian. She would rather break all bonds with her parents than to give up her love for him. Hence, when the love faded, she abandoned her children to commit suicide. It was not clear whether this was right or wrong. But today, she had undoubtedly impressed Gu Xijiu.

In life, there was not only love. There are family and friends. If the same happened to Gu Xijiu, if she no longer loved the man, she would not even care if he was going to marry another wife. She would only try to take a firm stand in the family and use Gu Xietian’s guilt against Leng Xiangyu so that she could get the best education for both her children. A couple of years later, she could still dominate the world.

Gu Xijiu fell deep into her thoughts as if she traveled through time and landed in Luo Xinglan’s body. Even if she no longer wanted to stay in the general’s residence, she would not kill herself and give all advantages to Leng Xiangyu. She could try to gain a firm foothold with Gu Xietian, plan to kill Leng Xiangyu, and flee with her children after that. She could try to make a name in the outside world.

Distracted, Di Fuyi suddenly spoke to her, ”Little Xijiu, remember to prepare a gift for yourself.”

Gu Xijiu took a moment to respond, ”What do you want me to give you?” She hesitated, ”I do not want a gift from you anyway!”

It was a bad idea to owe him anything. It would probably cause Gu Xijiu a snowballing interest. Intuitively, she did not want to have too much to do with him, so she refused to take anything from him.

Di Fuyi seemed to have understood her thoughts. His eyes darkened, but he spoke with a smile, ”It is a little something for your ceremony. Everyone will give you something. You would not owe me anything. Do you still have a grudge against me?”

Gu Xijiu interrupted Di Fuyi before he could finish his sentence, ”You are overthinking! Never mind, what do you want me to give me? I will take something out of your storage bag.”

Di Fuyi instructed her to take out a dark purple bag from his storage bag. Gu Xijiu scrutinized the bag and its contents. It seemed like the usual purple bag that Celestial Master Zuo had been using. There was nothing different or odd about it, other than the fact that it was a premium bag.

Gu Xijiu was relieved. Prayers would usually follow the braiding session, and it was traditionally led by a noble person with high prestige. So, Celestial Master Zuo was the ideal person to handle the job. Without a doubt, Celestial Master Zuo had to bear the responsibility.

Gu Xijiu had to rise and hold Di Fuyi’s hand. Together, they would bow to the heavens and the earth according to the rules. She would light a joss stick and pray in a low voice to the board that was engraved with the words ‘heaven and earth.’ She would then pass the incense to Di Fuyi for him place it under the board after their prayers.
