Vampire Progenitor System

The garden smelled of silver flowers and old blood.

Francisca stood beneath the black roses, her six golden tails swaying lazily behind her like living flames. The reconstruction had left her stronger—faster, sharper, something new coiled beneath her skin—but it hadn’t healed the ache in her chest. Not completely.

Lucifer stood a few paces away, arms crossed, silver-white hair catching the crimson moonlight. He looked every inch the emperor he’d become: cold, distant, untouchable. The man who had torn through realms and shattered a goddess’s hoard for her sake.

And he didn’t remember a single second of it.

”You really don’t,” she said. Her voice came out quieter than she intended. ”You sacrificed every memory of me. Just... handed them over like they were nothing.”

Lucifer’s crimson eyes met hers. There was no cruelty in them. Only honesty.

”I don’t remember the ritual clearly,” he admitted. ”The fragments, the price... it’s a blur. A hole. If I did remember you—truly remember—then you must have meant something to me. Something worth that kind of loss.”

Francisca’s breath hitched. She wiped at her eyes with the back of her hand, furious at the tears that wouldn’t stop.

”Yeah,” she whispered, voice cracking. ”I was. I am. You stupid, stubborn dumbass.” A wet laugh escaped her. ”You were my best friend. My brother. The only person who ever looked at me like I wasn’t just some orphaned kitsune tagging along. You protected me when no one else would. You rebuilt an empire while searching for a way to bring me back. And now...”

She stepped closer, tails curling slightly.

”Now you look at me like I’m a stranger wearing a familiar face.”

Lucifer didn’t move away. But he didn’t reach for her either.

”I feel it,” he said quietly. ”The emptiness. Like something vital is missing. I know you’re important. The way my shadows react around you... they remember even if I don’t.” He paused, jaw tightening. ”But knowing it and feeling it aren’t the same. I’m sorry.”

Francisca wiped her eyes again, harder this time.

”Don’t be sorry. Just... don’t treat me like some fragile guest in your palace. I’m still me. And you’re still you. Even if you forgot the parts that made us us.”

She reached out, hesitating only a second before pressing her palm against his chest—right over where his heart beat steady and strong.

”You gave up a century of memories for this. For me. That’s not nothing, Luce. Even if you can’t remember why.”

For a moment, something flickered in his eyes. A shadow of recognition. A ghost of the boy who’d sat with her on rooftops in New York, complaining about his edgy name while she teased him mercilessly.

Then it was gone.

Footsteps approached from the garden path.

Luna emerged from behind a trellis of black roses, her notepad tucked under one arm, expression soft but knowing. She had always been good at reading rooms—and people.

”Lucifer,” she said gently. ”The eastern reports just came in. You asked to review them personally.”

He nodded once, glancing at Francisca.

”We’ll talk more later.”

Francisca forced a small smile.

”Yeah. Go. Empire stuff doesn’t wait.”

Lucifer turned to leave with Luna, but not before giving one last look back. His crimson gaze lingered on her—on the six tails, the familiar lines of her face, the quiet strength in her stance.

Behind Francisca, Mob stepped out of the shadows. The half-angel’s wings were half-folded, his presence steady and protective. He placed a hand lightly on her shoulder.

Francisca didn’t pull away. She leaned into it, just a little.

Lucifer’s expression didn’t change, but something tightened in his jaw before he turned fully and walked away with Luna.

The library tower was quiet this time of night. Crimson moonlight spilled through tall windows, painting the shelves in shades of blood and silver. Luna led the way to a secluded alcove where a low table held fresh reports and a single bottle of aged blood-wine.

She poured two glasses without asking.

”You didn’t have to pull me away,” Lucifer said, accepting one.

Luna smiled faintly, settling onto the cushioned bench.

”I didn’t. You looked like you needed it.” She took a sip, watching him over the rim. ”How is she?”

”Alive,” he said simply. ”Hurting. Because of me.”

Luna set her glass down.

”You gave up everything to bring her back. She knows that. Even if it hurts right now.”

Lucifer stared into his wine. The liquid swirled like liquid shadows.

”I feel the hole, Luna. Every time I look at her. It’s like... part of me is missing, and I don’t know how to fill it.” He glanced at her. ”Does that make me a monster? That I can’t remember the person I burned the world for?”

Luna shifted closer. Her hand found his, fingers intertwining with easy familiarity.

”It makes you human,” she whispered. ”Or whatever you are now. The sacrifice was real. The love behind it was real. Even if the memories are gone, the choice wasn’t.”

She leaned in, resting her forehead against his.

”You don’t have to carry it alone. Not with me. Not with any of us.”

Lucifer’s free hand came up, cupping the back of her neck. The touch was gentle—almost reverent. For a long moment they stayed like that, breathing the same air, the weight of empires and lost memories pressing down around them.

Then he kissed her.

It started slow. Tentative. A question asked with lips instead of words. Luna answered by pressing closer, her hand sliding to his chest, feeling the steady thrum of power beneath. The kiss deepened—heat building, years of quiet devotion and shared nights pouring into it. Her fingers tangled in his silver hair. His shadows curled around them both, protective and warm.

When they finally parted, both were breathing harder. Luna’s cheeks were flushed, her eyes bright.

”Stay with me tonight,” she murmured against his lips.

Lucifer’s answer was another kiss—hungrier this time.

The reports lay forgotten on the table as the crimson moon climbed higher.
