The Versatile Master Artist

Chapter 664: Chapter 305: The Cat’s Shadow

Dr. Jin Anqing was accustomed to the traumas of various separations by life and death.

Surgeons face all kinds of bloody wounds every day. Psychologists confront the bleeding hearts.

He was the real professional, yet he was still moved by the other party’s calm and philosophical words.

“Do you have a background in psychology?”

The other party analyzed Tony’s situation so clearly and profoundly.

For a moment, Dr. Jin thought he was talking to a professor from the academic world.

“No, I haven’t received any training in psychology, just life lessons taught by elders and years of accumulated family education experience,” Mr. Tree Sloth calmly replied.

“Doctor, even an eternal child can awaken when facing pain. He can either choose to drown in this thirty-year dream or choose to wake up in pain…”

Knowing full well that escape is a short-term fix.

Many people will unhesitatingly inject one shot after another into their bodies, puncturing their lives full of holes, at whatever cost.

When people are emotionally distressed, they only seek a moment of peace.

Escaping for a moment allows one to sleep peacefully for a night.

Escaping by luck for a lifetime allows one to live in a fantasy world without ever facing reality.

Especially in the case of avoiding the death of closely related family members—for example, a nephew imagining his closest uncle is still alive, buying an extra gift at Christmas for someone who doesn’t exist. A young mother repeatedly dreams of being more attentive when changing diapers, avoiding the tragedy before her baby falls into a swimming pool and drowns.

When Dr. Jin Anqing was in medical school, the occupational diagnostic manual had a specific term for this situation called “grief-induced alienation reaction.”

The human mind’s protective mechanism acts like expelling foreign objects, attacking incompatible external organs, isolating itself from painful memories.

Psychologists believe.

In fact, over 70% of people, whether they realize it or not, experience varying degrees of “grief alienation” within two months of bereavement.

And as time dilutes the memory, it gradually fades.

A minority’s sorrowful fantasies can last six months to a year, and some even struggle with it in various forms for a lifetime, oscillating between avoidance and loss.

Romain Rolland said, there is only one kind of heroism in the world: to recognize the truth of life and still love it.

The first time Dr. Jin Anqing saw the screen name “Mr. Tree Sloth,”

He secretly felt that the name was as childish as a local children’s TV station, like the name of a cartoon host for preschoolers.

Mr. Tree Sloth and Detective Cat as a pair of names, sounded very unprofessional.

Yet now he was a bit overwhelmed by the other’s impressive aura.

Dr. Jin knew that such an aggressive creative idea might put him, the attending physician, at risks he shouldn’t be taking.

The wealth and social status of the rich often positively correlate with how difficult they are to please.

American TV shows like “Dr. House,” “Outpatient Clinic Story,” “The Good Doctor,” with their brazen, innovative ideas, would just directly greet the patients.

In reality, doing so often ends with massive compensation, license revocation, and even imprisonment.

For treating such an influential and affluent family member of an upper-class client like Jean Arnou, the most critical first rule is to avoid mistakes and maintain a stable client base.

With his current reputation,

he was no longer a young doctor in need of fame, who needed to make a mark by practicing boldly and innovatively in the industry.

Yet listening to Mr. Tree Sloth’s gentle explanation, one reason after another why Detective Cat had to create this series of works was like listening to a sermon by a wise pastor.

He really couldn’t say anything to refuse, and in a moment of impulsiveness, agreed.

After closing the chat meeting,

Dr. Jin gulped down two cups of black tea, and when the clinic’s female accountant brought in the financial forms and saw the unstoppable quarterly ten-thousand New Zealand dollar check signed by Jean Arnou,

“Damn, should I tell the illustrator that Detective Cat’s work might be… a bit provocative?”

“Did I make a wrong decision?”

The psychologist, in his anxiety, thought about booking a psychological consultation.

—————–

Fortunately.

Upon seeing Tony crying, Dr. Jin Anqing realized the effect was not bad.

Severe illnesses require potent medicine,

able to cry hysterically, releasing much of the negative pressure within.

Dr. Jin also secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

“Amy… is gone.”

In the living room, Tony buried his large face in the cat plush toy, sobbing incessantly, “That night… she… said goodbye, I… know. You all are… lying to me.”

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry, dad’s not good. Amy is gone, but there are other cats that will keep you company. Cry, cry, you’ll feel much better after letting it all out.”

Jean Arnou wiped his son’s tears away.

As he continuously apologized, the old gentleman’s mood suddenly improved.

The illustrator noticed.

After the outburst of tears, although his son was still sad, his apparent communication and connection with the outside world seemed to have increased.

He wondered if it was just his imagination.

In the past, it could take a month or two,

for Tony to be willing to say a sentence with such complex structure and clear logic, rather than blurting out a few words at a time.
