Chapter 887: The terrifying breakthrough mission

It was completely silent. The only things that could be heard were their heartbeats, the waves, and the wind.

Sheyan stared at the elevator hesitantly. However, when he looked at Jinkuang beside him, he instantly made up his mind. He said.

”Let’s go down together. There’s probably a huge treasure vault below.”

Jinkuang also stared at the elevator that had a distinctive sci-fi style hesitantly.

”There’s a treasure vault below? Then why is it left unguarded?”

Sheyan kept encouraging him.

”Since there’s no guard, then there’s no risk. Why not go down to take a look?”

Jinkuang rubbed his chin and thought about it carefully. He found Sheyan’s argument very reasonable, so he proceeded to walk into the elevator. Sheyan heaved a sigh of relief. Considering Jinkuang’s wretched and cowardly personality, if he was willing to go, then there should be no major risks. Therefore, Sheyan followed him inside full of confidence.

After Sheyan went in, the elevator doors closed like water slowly trickling down and folding close. The visual impact was quite impressive. Next came the slight dizziness caused by weightlessness. It didn’t take long before the elevator stopped. The door opened, and the scene appearing in front of Sheyan shocked him beyond words!

He could clearly see a high-tech metallic passageway in front of him. Every inch of the passageway was lit up by the soft glow of runway lights on the floor and ceiling. It was very eye-catching. Be it the interior design or the furnishing of the passageway, it was at least a few centuries ahead of earth’s technology.

This should have been a clean, bright, and technologically-advanced place, but it was in a complete mess!

Signs of destruction such as scorch marks, bullet holes, and the remnants of explosions were visible everywhere. There were a lot of deep, horrifying scratches on the walls. It was as if a pack of giant Wolverines ran amok on these walls.

Of course, where there was war, there were naturally casualties. White fragments the size of fingernails covered the ground. They made a sharp crunching sound when they were stepped on. They were the bones of the dead. The blows were so devastating that they left no whole bodies behind. Even the bones of the bodies were shattered.

Sheyan had begun to lament his fate. What kind of place had the realm led me to? Did it want me to take a test or to be murdered straight away?

The passageway was about a hundred meters long. The ground was almost completely covered with a thick layer of shattered bones, clothes and other things that wouldn’t rot. When Sheyan and Jinkuang stepped on them, the noise they made sounded like they were walking on the Gobi desert. It was apparent that the two sides who fought back then invested a lot of people, a lot of firepower, and a lot of determination in this battle!

Walking in the passageway inspired awe in Sheyan for the majesty of history and for the power of time. Sheyan could not help recalling his experience in the Harry Potter world, in the mysterious goblin kingdom, in the epic history of the magnificent underground pyramid!

When he thought of this, he sneaked a glance at Jinkuang, but immediately facepalmed and sighed. Jinkuang had taken out a large linen sack and snuck around like a rat. From time to time, a sinister laugh would leak out from his mouth. Anything that sparkled - except for broken glass - was thrown into that old sack of his.

Sheyan’s nerves tightened when they reached the end of the passageway. In front of them was an extremely spacious hall. The construction material was probably steel, but the surface had a sparkling shine, as if it was coated with a layer of ice. It gave off an indescribable feeling of fantasy.

The most abundant thing here were corpses.

Corpses that fell face-down on the ground!

These corpses garbed in black battle suits would be at least three meters tall if they were to stand. They each cut an imposing figure. There were over thirty of these corpses, all of them quite whole. Sheyan took a closer look and found that their flesh had rotten away completely, leaving only the external battle suit and the bones inside.

It was obvious that these fighters were not human. They were three meters in height but their skulls were only the size of a fist. Their bodies had no ribs. Their chest bone was composed of a bone plate which mirrored the bone plate on their back, forming a plate armor-like structure on their upper body. Their leg bones were divided into three sections, which meant that their legs had two knees.

It was not difficult to figure out what happened. Apparently, this group of tall and mighty double-kneed aliens tried to invade this place, and after a fierce battle, the invaders managed to advance into the main hall. They obviously held the upper hand.

But at that moment, the desperate defenders activated their final defensive measure. It might have been a poison gas, it might have been an infrasonic wave, it might have been something else....whatever it was, it was something that would not destroy the environment but would cause major damage to living creatures.

Both sides met their deaths in the end. Sheyan carefully searched for the weapons of the invaders but couldn’t find anything. The only explanation was that both the offensive and defensive sides probably used biological weapons that had also rotted away after their deaths.

For example, the most primitive and poor-man version of these weapons would be a man holding a poisonous snake by its head, and used the snake to aim poison at his enemies. That would mean that these two forces should have reached a very advanced level in biochemical research.

From the main hall, there was nowhere else to go. Sheyan and Jinkuang tried searching around.

Sheyan didn’t know what Jinkuang touched, but he caused some light to be projected out, which formed into a hologram of a frog-like alien with bulging eyes. There appeared to be some sort of translating device because Sheyan could understand his words.

”Shameless! Shameless!! The most shameless thing in the universe has just happened!”

”Right after our biochemical clone strengthening device was proven successful, those barbaric, shameless, despicable, vicious inhabitants of the Dual-knee planet instantly attacked us! They massacred us! They violated Interstellar Law Article 7, Article 21 and Article 33!”

”They killed Alina! I will never see those beautiful tentacles, sexy mucus and plump eyes ever again! You bastards will die here with me!!”

When the hologram ended, Sheyan had also restored the facts. It wasn’t much different from his previous speculation. But Sheyan still didn’t know why the realm guided him here. After all, he was supposed to be here for the boundary breakthrough mission.

Suddenly, the entire hall shook. Even the gleam on the surrounding walls dimmed. Sheyan remained composed under such situation. He simply took two steps back. After around half a minute, the situation turned normal again. A synthetic, gender-neutral electronic voice gave the following notifications:

”Attention. The biochemical clone strengthening device is fully charged.”

”Attention. The biochemical clone strengthening device is fully charged.”

”May the test subject please enter the cloning chamber to prepare for data collection for the test run.”

”Control room, please set the biochemical clone strengthening factor.”

After the series of notifications, in the very centre of the hall, a circular door on the floor opened with a bang. From within rose a circular platform with a noticeable warning colour.

Sheyan took a deep breath. He vaguely understood what was going on now. Sure enough, after a minute, came the notifications from the nightmare imprint.

[ Contestant No. 1018, please climb onto the platform in front to complete your boundary breakthrough Growth-Hunter test. The rules are as follows: ]

[ Warning: If you listen to the rules, you must perform the breakthrough test within seven days, or you will be killed ]

[ Warning: The following information are top secret. You are not to disclose these information to anyone in any way, or you will be subject to extremely heavy punishment ]

[ Please choose if you would like to listen to the following information ]

Sheyan had no choice. He chose ’yes’.

[ You are about to undergo the boundary breakthrough Growth-Hunter test ]

[ Test content: Defeat a clone of yourself ]

[ Test reward: Qualifying as a Growth-Hunter ]

[ Current military rank: Major. You have the privilege to apply for a detailed explanation and ask questions ]

Sheyan immediately enquired:

”How strong is the clone?”

The nightmare imprint quickly replied:

[ Under normal circumstances, the base attributes of the clone are 1.5 times yours at the moment when you enter the challenge zone, plus a 500% bonus to HP. All the abilities you possess when you enter the challenge zone (except for innate talent) will be perfectly copied onto the clone. All the equipments and items on you (including those stored in your personal space) will be perfectly copied onto the clone ]

[ After entering the challenge zone, you cannot receive any outside assistance or support. No one will be able to intervene in your fight ]

Sheyan sucked in a cold breath. The harshness of the rules far exceeded his prior expectation! The worst part was....

Sheyan couldn’t help but ask:

”Can I know what you mean by ”under normal circumstances? ”

[ ”Under normal circumstances” refers to when a contestant challenges a single attribute boundary breakthrough! ]

Sheyan was not satisfied with the answer so he continued with his query:

”What if I want to challenge a dual-attribute boundary breakthrough?”

[ The difficulty will increase significantly! The increase will be as follows!]
