THE SYSTEM IS NOT MINE

Kaizi was the first to rush to Mofu on his horse. He slid down from the horse and held Mofu in his hands.

Chen Yu came and stood to the side. He had bruises on his body, while Mofu’s other five companions arrived.

Kaizi glared at Chen Yu, who folded his arms and trembled, but did not say anything.

Then Leo arrived.

After a moment, other commanders began to arrive.

More commanders arrived. Leo looked at Mofu and said, ”He is injured.”

Kaizi glared at him, trying to understand what Leo meant.

”He is injured, and defeated. Remember, we have a war. The troops’ morale depends on this false narrative. No one should know the truth. Let’s move.” Leo said.

Kaizi and the others looked at each other and then at Mofu, then nodded.

”I will announce this.”

”You take him back to the city.” Leo said.

”Hurry! We can’t retreat. The truth should be buried for some time. Just behind us is the city that he protected.” Leo said.

Kaizi did not wait. He held Mofu in his arms, climbed the horse, and moved toward the city.

The soldiers behind gave him the way as soon as he approached them. Soon Kaizi disappeared from view.

Then Leo turned toward the others. ”You understand it, right? Why it’s necessary.”

The commanders nodded.

Then Wind Qi surrounded Leo as he flew.

”Listen! Protectors of Noir. The General is severely injured and currently escorted safely to the city, but he equally severely injured the enemy General.”

”We can’t let his efforts go to waste. Let’s win this.”

”Charge!”

Leo shouted.

The soldiers of Noir, who were confused just moments ago, who were distracted by the outcome of the battle, immediately regained their senses and clashed with the enemy.

The battle continued. Chen Yu rejoined Han Defu’s unit and fought beside Yan.

The enemy soldier almost stabbed Chen Yu, but Yan interfered and deflected the enemy’s blade and then pierced the sword through the enemy’s neck.

Another soldier rushed toward Chen Yu. After their first clash, he raised his sword again and prepared to stab.

Yan interfered again. Then Yan looked at Chen Yu and said, ”Chen Yu, concentrate. You are not this weak.”

”Yan... I can’t do it. I wanted revenge, but I am being targeted by everyone for the thing... that.” Chen Yu pierced his sword into the ground as he kept his weight on the sword and supported himself to kneel.

”I am a loser and pathetic...”

”Because of me, the General... the General is...”

”I better leave the military...”

Chen Yu said while Yan’s sword clashed with a Shin soldier.

Yan pushed his enemy away and turned toward Chen Yu.

”No, not yet. Don’t give up. You wanted revenge, no?” Yan said.

”I still want it, but my enemy is not just Yomi. The General of Shin, he is targeting me. He will kill me... before I can grow strong...”

Several thoughts ran through Yan’s mind. He stood for a second, then clenched his fists.

Then he crouched and extended his hand toward Chen Yu.

”Stand up!”

”Everything is alright...”

”No one will target you from now.”

”I will reveal myself.”

”Let them target me.”

Yan said.

”But...”

Chen Yu wanted to say something.

”There are no buts. I am going to reveal myself. There is no other way around.”

Yan took a deep breath as Chen Yu held his hand and stood up.

”Thank you for carrying the secret.” Yan said as he looked toward the Shin troops.

Gwalior, who was not far away, listened to the conversation and smiled. Then he murmured, ”Finally, something interesting is going to happen.”

Meanwhile, after about an hour, Han Hian, who sat on the ground, stood up.

”General.” A commander arrived next to him and bowed.

”What’s happening? Why has the morale of Noir still not broken?” Han Hian asked.

”General, it seemed like the opponent commanders announced you both are severely injured each other,” The commander said.

”Their General injured? How absurd?. He is probably dead. There is no way he could have survived after my flames burnt the insides of the chest including the heart.” Han Hian said.

”You mean? They are hiding his death?” The commander said.

Han Hian did not reply, but his head spun and he almost fell, only to be caught by the commander.

”General?”

”Are you okay?” The commander said.

If you encounter this tale on Amazon, note that it’s taken without the author’s consent. Report it.

”Yes, but the use of the shadow world took a toll on me. I have to go back to camp to recover.” Han Hian said.

”But... General, without you?”

”What without me? Don’t tell me Shin is too weak to defeat Noir who lost its leader?”

”Genie, I am handling the command over to you. Also do this after I have left.” General Han Hian gave instructions.

Then he took a horse and left the battlefield.

After Han Hian left, Genie flew up in the air.

”Listen, tigers of Shin...”

”The General has been summoned by His Majesty for urgent matters.”

”And I am replacing him temporarily.”

”More importantly, the General has already killed the enemy General. We just have to win.”

The soldiers clashed with each other.

”You Noir men sure are brave, even after the death of your General, you are still fighting.” One Shin soldier said to a Noir soldier as their swords collided.

”Bullshit! Our General is not dead. He severely injured your general, so the rest of the battle is with us.” The Noir soldier said.

”Mm... severely? Your Noir surely knows how to exaggerate.” The Shin soldier pressed against Noir.

Right then, the Noir soldier felt wind, and looked up. A Commander of Shin, a Core Formation cultivator, was hovering above. The wind blew.

That was his last vision.

After about ten minutes, ”How dare they? How can they gather together and target normal soldiers? At this rate we will have many casualties.”

The man who was next to Leo said.

Leo was flying toward the place where all Core Formation cultivators of Shin gathered together and attacked Noir.

Similarly, all Core Formation cultivators of Shin moved toward that place.

Some flew, some rode horses, some rushed on foot.

Soon after about twenty minutes.

The battlefield had become messy. All Core Formation cultivators currently gathered at the center, and those below core formation and mortals maintained a long distance between the battlefield of core formation cultivators.

The battlefield was divided into two parts. At the center, core formation cultivators fought. Then there was a large empty ground around their battlefield for several miles. Then outside that, mortals and spiritual qi foundation cultivators fought.

The Han Defu unit did not have any Core Formation cultivators. They were on the ordinary side of the battlefield.

Chen Yu’s blade collided with the opponent’s. The opponent’s blade flew away as Chen Yu stabbed him.

Then Chen Yu clashed with the next opponent.

Time passed.

After about an hour, the battle at the center intensified as the sun was already setting.

Several Core Formation cultivators fell from both sides. Then all of a sudden, wind blasted out, pushing Leo far back to almost the ordinary side of the battlefield.

Leo stood up while injured heavily.

Then another Core Formation commander was blasted next to him.

Also injured severely.

They both looked at each other. Leo looked up. The sun was about to set as well.

”Retreat...” He ordered.

The Noir commanders immediately rushed out while Shin commanders tried to follow them.

”Retreat,”

”Retreat,”

The order of retreat spread at Noir.

The sudden order sent chaos in the battle.

The Noir soldiers began retreating while the Shin charged.

A unit of cavalry charged at Han Defu Unit.

Yan immediately grabbed an enemy horse and pushed the rider out. He looked at Chen Yu and the others and said, ”We don’t retreat. Charge!” And moved forward.

For a moment, other members of Han Defu unit looked at Chen Yu.

But Chen Yu already grabbed a horse and sat on it and went just behind Yan.

Gwalior was third to follow.

Others followed as well. Some killed the cavalry, some died while trying to grab the horses, but most survived and followed behind Yan.

The small unit followed him into the chaos.

Across the battlefield, other soldiers saw it.

”What is Han Defu’s unit doing?”

”Are they insane?”

”They’re charging!”

The enemy soldiers laughed when they saw the small group approaching.

”Humph! A small unit is seeking suicide.”

Genie, who hovered above, looked at the Unit as well, then he looked at the Sun.

”All Core Formation cultivators, retreat for now.”

”All other soldiers, don’t retreat until it’s dark, and make sure to kill this foolish unit before that.” Genie ordered.

Then the Shin Core Formation cultivators who were chasing after Noir cultivators stopped, turned around, and began to retreat while the rest of the troops concentrated extremely on Han Defu unit.

A handful of men of Han Defu unit running toward a larger force.

It looked like madness.

Yan rode in front.

Just before reaching the enemy line, Yan stood on his horse.

The sand beneath his horse loosened and it stumbled and crashed forward.

Yan had already jumped.

He landed among the enemy soldiers. Right when he landed, the ground beneath Shin soldiers turned slippery.

One soldier slipped while another stumbled sideways.

A third lost balance trying to recover.

For a brief moment, no one stood steady.

Yan’s blade moved.

One neck opened, the blade cut it off.

Then another.

The soldiers of Han Defu’s unit crashed into the disordered line seconds later.

Clang!

The weapons clashed.

Across the battlefield, retreating Noir soldiers saw them fighting.

The small unit had not been defeated immediately. Instead they were overwhelming the Shin troops.

They were pushing forward.

Then someone among the crowd shouted, ”They’re holding!”

Another soldier turned back and looked at the Han Defu Unit.

They saw Chen Yu cutting heads, Gwalior taking his sword out of an enemy chest.

More importantly, they saw Yan. The enemies he faced slipped and fell on the ground or were falling when Yan used a single slash to cut their heads.

Be it a late Spiritual Foundation cultivator or a mortal, all died with a single slash from Yan.

Many gulped their saliva while looking at the scene.

Then their blood boiled and they remembered the rumors of the mysterious senior from the previous war around Chen Yu.

For a moment, the image of the mysterious senior from their imagination overlapped with Yan.

Broken groups at the front began charging again, but Core Formation cultivators and the soldiers at the back already retreated.

The battle reignited without any command.

Then the sun disappeared as darkness almost swallowed the field with little light left.

”Retreat,” The order came from Shin. The Shin troops began to withdraw.

”I will go alone from here onwards. You come in only when there is no sound except that of wind.”

Yan, who was at the forefront, ordered and rushed in.

Chen Yu stopped first, and ordered not to pursue the retreating Shin Army.

Only Yan entered inside the enemy formation.

”Attack him.”

”He is only one guy.”

The nearby Shin soldiers attacked, but with a single slash, Yan cut multiple heads.

The Shin troops hesitated, then darkness took over.

The moonlight fell over the battlefield. Most soldiers could barely see except Yan.

But Yan did not rely on sight.

He felt the ground, each step, each movement, everything that stayed or moved on the ground.

In the darkness, the battlefield became clear to him alone.

Yan walked. The enemy soldiers were in disarray. Most were retreating.

Yan, who stood in a pack of soldiers, sensed everything through the ground.

The soldiers near Yan were moving. One man’s right foot slipped, another’s left foot slipped. A third took two more steps before his foot finally slipped.

One slipped forward.

Yan cut his throat.

Another staggered sideways.

Yan drove the blade through his chest.

A third fell backward trying to steady himself.

Yan split his skull.

Around him, the ground betrayed everyone who tried to stand.

Yan walked through them calmly.

Then Yan found a dead archer. He grabbed the bow and arrow and shot arrows toward the people who were running away.

”What’s happening...”

The enemy in the dark was terrified, but Yan walked calmly.

The enemy did not dare to attack in the night because they knew they could hit their comrades.

Some escaped, and some fell either by an arrow or a sword.

Some foundation cultivators tried to light a torch with fire qi but were immediately shot by an arrow, dropping the wood in their hands.

Moments later a blade cut their head off.

The massacre in the dark continued.

The battlefield slowly became silent.

Hours passed.

Cool wind pressed against a Noir soldier in the dark.

After everything went silent, no sounds of feet, no sounds of shouting or steel.

Gwalior ignited a wooden branch he picked up from the ground with Fire Qi.

Then he handed it to a nearby foot soldier. ”Go and see what’s happening.”

The soldier carrying the torch moved in the darkness.

When he arrived at the place where Shin had been, all he saw were bodies, hundreds of them scattered on the ground.

Then his eyes widened. A shadow sat among the corpses, holding another shadow in one hand. The second figure struggled desperately, but the first did not move.

The man, who sat among the corpses, had his eyes closed. The soldier’s back stiffened.

But he slowly approached the shadows.

As he drew closer, the torchlight fell on the man. The man opened his eyes.

The soldier halted as their eyes met. The soldier felt as if he had seen an apex predator.

Every part of his body screamed danger. But he knew this man was on their side.

Then the man turned toward the man struggling in his hand.

The man released the struggling soldier of Shin. The Shin soldier backed down and stared at Yan as his hands and legs shook violently.

Yan spoke quietly.

”My name is Yan.”
