The Quest for Immortality

The so-called ”monster battling arena” is a place where some upper-level cultivators observe monster beasts fighting and killing each other for entertainment and gambling.

Monster beasts eat humans, so monster battling is extremely dangerous.

Therefore, this behavior is prohibited in Li State, as well as in Qian State.

Though not explicitly banned, it is in the ”gray” area.

But the Great Wilderness is quite unique; monster beasts are abundant, the folkways are savage, bans are loose, so such an underground monster battling arena has a place to exist.

However, speaking of such, being able to gather and breed monster beasts in a fourth-grade Great Immortal City for fighting and enjoyment, this kind of gray business isn’t something ordinary forces can accomplish.

There must be significant backing behind this monster battling arena.

And Mo Hua, through thorough investigations and causal divination technique, indeed found a familiar stream of energy in the monster battling arena.

This stream of energy bears a fierce aura, clearly related to a familiar and powerful monster beast.

Mo Hua then tried to find a way to infiltrate the monster battling arena.

But the arena is extremely secretive, with a spirit beast building on the outside, normally selling and nurturing various spirit beasts to cover up its true purpose.

The surrounding formation is well-prepared, well-equipped, and divine sense cannot penetrate; without familiarity with reality, there is no way to conceallessly infiltrate.

Mo Hua waited outside while calculating with fingers, sensing the energy within the monster battling arena.

A few days later, the causal energies within the arena became chaotic.

A blood red light grew intense for a moment.

Afterwards, several strands of evil qi were added, but a few live energies were missing.

Mo Hua speculated in his heart that there had been an uprising, and the monsters had killed people in the arena.

A few people dying meant there was a shortage.

The next day, Mo Hua concealed his aura, once again disguising as a small body-cultivator in the qi-refining realm, and entered the spirit beast building.

Within his heavenly secret life chart, there was a foggy mist.

After divine sense sublimation, it was extremely profound, the effect of concealing aura was strong, and under the condition of revealing only a little cultivation, even a normal Golden Core Middle Stage, and ordinary Golden Core Late Stage cultivators couldn’t see through his reality.

It was estimated that it would take at least someone at the Feather Transformation Realm to truly sense his peculiarity.

As soon as Mo Hua entered the spirit beast building, he was stopped by a gatekeeper.

The gatekeeper asked him what his business was, To which Mo Hua replied, ”I want to find a job.”

The gatekeeper looked at him disdainfully, seemed ready to chase Mo Hua away, but then thought better of it, and said, ”Follow me to see the steward.”

Having said that, he led Mo Hua to meet the steward.

The steward of the spirit beast building, slightly plump, dressed in dark green brocade clothes, sitting in a chair sipping tea, asked Mo Hua:

”You want to work?”

Mo Hua nodded.

The steward asked, ”Why did you come here?”

Mo Hua answered honestly, ”I’m hungry, haven’t eaten in days, just found a door and came in, as long as you give me a meal, I’ll do anything.”

”Where are you from?”

”I’m from Li State, my family was too poor, had no food to eat, came here as a refugee.”

The steward looked at Mo Hua’s thin body, delicate yet gaunt face, and those clear unsullied eyes that couldn’t tell lies, and nodded slightly.

He then asked, ”Really, anything?”

Mo Hua nodded, ”Yes.”

The steward said, ”It’s somewhat dangerous, you might die.”

Mo Hua replied, ”I haven’t eaten in days, I’m almost starving...”

The meaning was that he was almost starved to death, wouldn’t care about danger or not.

The steward nodded, called a person over, pointed at Mo Hua, and said, ”Take him down, give him a good meal.”

A servant led Mo Hua down, and gave him some simple food.

Mo Hua ate heartily, stuffing his belly until full.

Though he was naturally weak, he had always had a big appetite since childhood.

While eating, Mo Hua could feel a pair of eyes observing him in the dark, presumably it was the steward.

After he finished eating, he was led back to the steward.

The steward instructed, ”I’ll give you a job, provide you with food and shelter, but you must remember, you must obey, do what you’re told, and besides that, keep your mouth shut, don’t say an extra word, otherwise even I can’t save you.”

Mo Hua nodded solemnly.

The steward covered Mo Hua’s eyes with a black cloth and said, ”Follow me.”

This black cloth had a certain ability to block senses.

But it couldn’t block Mo Hua at all.

Mo Hua’s divine sense could still perceive his surroundings clearly.

However, he still pretended to know nothing, letting the steward lead him deeper into the spirit beast building.

Inside the spirit beast building, there were legitimately established stables, nurturing various spirit beasts, with people coming and going.

And in the hall, there was a hidden floor, leading underground.

Mo Hua followed the steward into the hidden floor, descended a stone staircase, walked for an unknown length in darkness, until he finally heard the steward say:

”Alright, remove the black cloth.”

Mo Hua removed the black cloth from his eyes, squinted and looked, and saw before him, a grand and magnificent underground fighting arena.

Right in the center was a bloody battleground, for monster beasts to fight.

The surrounding stands were layered, stacked like buckets enclosing it all.

And deeper in the fighting arena, there were countless underground prisons filled with the feral aura of all kinds of monster beasts, low growls emanated from the prisons.

Mo Hua appropriately showed a shocked and fearful expression:

”This... What is this...?”

The steward glanced at Mo Hua, ”Don’t bother about what this is. Aren’t you starving? Work here, you’ll get fed, besides that, play deaf and dumb, that’s the way to live longer... Do you understand?”

The steward looked at Mo Hua sternly.

Mo Hua swallowed his saliva and timidly nodded.
