”Do. Not. Make. Me. Repeat. Myself.”

Her voice reflected the tremendous power that she had over the two lesser beings before her.

Even their ability to resist was a gift from the Divine Mother, for she could seize complete control of the network of integrated information that comprised their minds. Such was the power of a Divine Mother.

Oo—o- closed her eyes, having already given up on the possibility of getting the aid of the Divine Mother. Since the Divine Mother had reasserted her decision, there was nothing she could say to change it. Trying to pester the extraordinary being beyond this point would be jeopardizing her own life.

It was unfortunate that the Divine Mother had so little care for their outpost world. But the simple reality was that it wasn’t an immediate priority. Their civilization had bigger priorities, and redirecting precious resources away from that priority.

War with the Dessandrites. A war between two powerful forces for greater influence over the Orion Star Strand. In comparison to a battle with an alien civilization that had conquered millions of stars, even this new mysterious force that seemed to be able to grow by orders of magnitude in just the span of thirteen years was simply irrelevant.

So what if they had conquered ten thousand stars?

In the grand scheme of even just the Orion Star Strand alone, ten thousand stars were nothing. Especially ten thousand stars of the lowest quality in the middle of nowhere in a local bubble with lower stellar density.

The Divine Mother and her peers dealt with the fate of quadrillions.

They concerned themselves with the affairs whose scope covered millions of stars. It was not an exaggeration to say that they influenced the future trajectory of the entire galaxy, however small. This meant that some minor civilization meant nothing to them, even if the shockingly prodigious rate of growth of this new alien civilization was of note.

They would have dealt with this problem themselves, it would seem. That was the reason that ascendant warriors like themselves had been brought all the way to an outpost distant from the heart of their civilization. It was their duty to protect the infected world until they had extracted every ounce of infected matter from it, before allowing the alien virus to spread further so that they could follow the seeds and continue the same process.

Still, Oo—o- couldn’t help but wonder why the Divine Mother didn’t just use her extraordinary power to smite the outsiders. She knew that Divine Mothers were capable of truly extraordinary feats. There were legends and tales passed on through their civilization, through the stars, about the many miracles that the Divine Mothers had worked for the sake of the homoarachnoid nest.

And yet, they tended to seclude themselves, rather actively intervening despite their extraordinary power, choosing to focus on their duty of laying eggs to spread their kind across the stars. After all, the homoarachnoid species was a species with a ten-to-one male-to-female, making most females consumed with the task of laying eggs.

And only the Divine Mothers could lay eggs that could yield infected and ascendant homoarachnoid words.

Regardless, it didn’t change the fact that the Divine Mother had condemned them to solve the crisis that they faced on this one outpost world by themselves. Oo—o- would need to figure out a way to deal with the monstrosity that was the red-haired human that had wiped out their forces and had almost even -o—o-o, leaving him gravely injured.

She was just about to apologize to the Divine Mother and beg for her forgiveness and move on, only for -o—o-o to speak for the first time since getting their.

”O. Divine. Mother,” he called out to her with a pained voice, revealing just how much the divine voice of the Divine Mother hurt him. ”I. Wish. To. Report. Something. Of. Great. Importance. To. You.”

Oo—o- stiffened as the foolish male brought up his little experience with the female human that he had fought.

The six eyes of the Divine Mother shifted towards the wounded ascendant homoarachnoid. Suddenly, he felt like the weight of the sky bore down on him. He felt an overwhelming, searing pressure mounting on his very consciousness. As if an outside force was tampering with the strands of thoughts that composed the web of his consciousness.

Every instinct in his body made him feel a tremendous amount of danger. As if his very identity, something perhaps more precious than merely his life, was at stake.

He could feel the hint of irritation from the Divine Mother. As if every moment they drew her attention was increasingly costly, and the moment it grew more costly than their deaths, she would dispatch of them on the spot without even the slightest hint of remorse. Such was the nature of the Divine Mothers.

He immediately rushed to complete his report.

”I. Have. Discovered. An. Anomaly. O. Divine. Mother,” he spoke with an urgent tone. ”I. Have. Come. Across. One. Of. The. Humans. Who. Possesses. Extraordinary. Potential. And. Combat. Prowess. Despite. Markedly. Being. Weaker. Than. Me. In. Raw. Physical. Prowess.”

He broke into a cold sweat as he felt the faint impatience and apathy in the judging six eyes of the Divine Mother. He realized that if he didn’t justify his call for her attention, she would kill him right then and there.

”I. Saw. The. Universe. In. Her. Eyes.”

To the shock of Oo—o-, those words appeared to move the Divine Mother more than the information of a civilization that had grown from one to ten thousand stars in just the span of thirteen years. Just what was it about the strange experiences and observations that -o—o-o had with the divergent human female that drew the Divine Mother’s attention? How could it possibly matter more than the fate of an entire outpost world, even if it was a remote one?
