The Invincible Full-Moon System

Chapter 1972: Already Belonged to Me

High Lord Rashal smiled.

He only tried to poke a bit, and the old man’s fake persona crumbled almost instantly.

For coming here out of nowhere—the only reason he would do something like this was to see how High Lord Rashal was doing and also to boast of his victory. It was a big victory for him—and it would be a waste not to rub it in High Lord Rashal’s face.

Seamlessly, High Lord Rashal waved his hand, teleporting them to another dimension.

Not because he wanted to do something, but because he wanted to avoid prying eyes.

He wanted to make this moment pure with no pretentious fakeness.

”Nobody is watching. Nothing is recording.” High Lord Rashal reclined on his chair. ”What do you say if we drop the act right now—and stay true to what we’re feeling? Isn’t it tiring to constantly speak in a passive-aggressive manner? It’s not like I’m a clueless civilian.”

”Your origin is showing. You were never meant to be among us.”

”Perhaps I am a country-bumpkin that couldn’t fit into high society.”

Silence stretched between them.

Underneath this silence, there was the tense charge of conflict that had been accumulated for years.

Conflict that stretched from economic war, border war, and even mental war.

And now, the end was nearing.

For someone with immense experience like High Lord Ursa, having to battle a brat for years had been a blow to his ego. He couldn’t believe that someone at such a young age and with so little reach could hold on for this long, but he won in the end.

”Just who do you think you are... Rashal?” High Lord Ursa finally asked.

His voice shifted from neutral to ice-cold, like the coldest part of the Realm of Death Antarctica.

”Someone like you, who doesn’t have any footing, should’ve accepted my helping hand and been grateful. I only ask for your favour with your position in the future, and yet you refused me. Acted like you were an entity above me. Who do you think you are?”

”I bow to no man—Demigod or God. I am my own, and still am.”

”And look at where that arrogance of yours led you.”

”With all due respect, High Lord Ursa, it’s not over until I am no longer in office and my heart no longer beats.”

”Is that so?” High Lord Ursa rose to his feet again, resting both hands on the shark-head cane—before him. He smiled mischievously, and his eyeballs turned abyssal-black. A dominating energy sizzled from his shoulders as he looked down at the still-seated High Lord Rashal.

Then, he lifted his frail index finger and pointed at High Lord Rasha’s chair.

”That seat.” He turned his index finger to point at himself. ”Already belonged to me.”

”This office,” He swerved his hand to gesture around the room. ”Already belonged to me.”

”This city,” He pointed to the breathtaking horizon—behind High Lord Rashal. ”Already belonged to me. All you have already belonged to me. And soon, very soon, I’ll make a decoration of your head. Make slaves of those you considered dear. And make whores of your women.

”Later, when you arrive at my celebratory banquet, you will see that power has already slipped—from your hands.” High Lord Ursa turned around and walked back to the executive lift. He halted by the door and glanced over his shoulder. ”Having ambition is good, but there are people out there who could end even the grandest ambition, and I am one of those people. Let this be a lesson for you in your next life.”

Lightly, High Lord Ursa tapped the wooden floor with his cane.

And almost instantly, the pocket dimension around them shattered, and the outside returned to normal.

He pressed the button, and the door opened.

Henry was still inside—waiting for their conversation to finish with no intention of eavesdropping.

Even though he wasn’t listening, it was clear that the conversation went badly for High Lord Rashal.

It could be seen clearly on his face.

Of course, like always, High Lord Rashal’s face was neutral—but Henry had been beside him for quite some time, and he could tell more than what met the eye. He bowed and gestured for High Lord Ursa to enter.

”I’ll be looking forward to meeting you at the banquet.” He said with a pliant, polite smile.

Back to formalities again.

And then the door closed.

Just as Henry and High Lord Ursa go down under, vanishing from sight, High Lord Rashal’s face eased as a smile played—on his lips. ”He is really confident that he’d win, which meant he had already convinced more High Lords than necessary to get the votes he needed to oust me. But the good news—he’s underestimating me.”

Moments later.

Rex rushed to High Lord Rashal’s office along with Davina and Lilliana.

In front of the main building, there was already a black SUV and a few enforcers strapped in their gear.

One of them was a familiar face, Vadyn.

”I heard what happened,” She said with a concerned look on her face.

”Yes, it’s really bad. I’m sure High Lord Rashal is still fretting about his options right now,” Rex sighed, as things are going to only get even more hectic from now on. Once the plan was settled, the next move would be to execute it, which would be really hard to do. ”He needs you, I bet.”

”I didn’t mean that. I meant the assassins sent to kill you.”

”Oh, don’t worry about it. In fact, I’m glad that they came. A good chance for me to vent a little bit.”

”I’m sure you did.” Vadyn shook her head—and covered her nostrils with her index finger. ”I can smell the thick scent of blood from you. Considering the last time we met, you are pretty weak, but you don’t seem that weak now.”

”People grow stronger.”

”But you’re growing abnormally fast. Should I be worried?”

”No need to worry about him holding a grudge against you,” Davina chimed from behind. ”As long as you mess with him directly, not attack those around him to get close to him—then he probably won’t hunt you down.”

”And you are?” Vadyn tilted her head and looked at Davina with a raised brow.

”Davina,” Davina stated flatly. ”And I’m his fiancée, so you better remember me next time.”

”Oh, right... the fiancé,” Vadyn smiled, acutely condescending. ”I tend to forget people who can’t stand out properly.”

Lilliana chuckled at the comment.

And this made her receive a glare from Davina; her amused chuckle died instantly on her lips.

”That’s enough fooling around.” Rex pulled on the rope he was holding, which was attached directly to Farhan, who had his face covered by a black sack like a criminal. ”I want you to lock him up—and keep him safe.”

”Who’s this?”

”One of the assassins sent to kill me. I need him alive for a bit longer.”

”I see.” Vadyn gestured to another enforcer near the car, silently telling him to bring Farhan into the car. ”I’ll keep him safe as long as you want. But what are you planning to do now? I’m sure you don’t want to get in the middle of this as it’s too dangerous.”

”I made a deal with your cousin,” Rex said nonchalantly.

Vadyn paused for a second.

And then she massaged her forehead and shook her head, ”Of course, you did. Both of you are insane, and I’m the fool who thought you’d choose the safe route. But I had to ask, are you really doing this? In case you didn’t know, High Lord Ursa’s power reached everywhere across the Primordial Meadow. And he’s not an Awakened Demigod but a Transcendent Demigod.

”If he so much wanted to, he could kill you with a snap of his fingers.” She added grimly.

System, say a Transcendent Demigod tried to kill me, would you intervene?

Rex was mildly surprised, but it’s not like he hadn’t put this into account.

He had always danced with death, so why even bother worrying about it?

”I’m guessing High Lord Rashal is also a Transcendent Demigod.”

”Yes, he’s also a Transcendent Demigod. But what does that have to do with what I’m saying?”

”Then he’d protect me from High Lord Ursa.”

”You’re kidding...” Vadyn stared at Rex, searching his face for any trace of humour, any crack in the stone, but found nothing. He was completely serious, and she was at a loss for words at his confidence. ”Even I don’t trust him to save me, and I share his blood. And you’re telling me you trust him with your life?”

”What can I say?” Rex shrugged, unbothered. ”I live by my instincts—and my instincts trusted him for now. Besides, people like him have a way of surprising you. Doing the things they normally would not do.”

”God help you and your foolishness,” Vadyn said helplessly.

”I don’t need the help of a God.” Rex smiled and patted her shoulder. ”Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to discuss the plans with High Lord Rashal. I’m sure you’re coming to the banquet, so we’ll meet again soon.”

He went on ahead, entering the building with wide strides.

Davina followed but stopped when she was right beside Vadyn.

”For the record, when he said plans, he meant plans that are devised by me.” She pointed her own index finger at her face, where a faint smirk was tugging at the corner of her lips. ”If everything goes as I envisioned it to be—I would expect a grand gratitude from you for changing both your and your cousin’s bleak fates.”

She flicked her hair and trotted on ahead.

”Newly engaged,” Lilliana said with a wry smile. ”Still protective, you know how it goes.”

Vadyn watched them enter the building.

”You know how it goes? I’m not even married yet.” She planted both hands on her hips—and frowned. ”Do I really look that old?”

The day had been a crucible of words.

Rex and the sisters spent every hour in detailed conference with High Lord Rashal; their voices weaved through strategy and counter-strategy, risk and reward, within the glass cubicle office. High Lord Rashal had already consulted his high-ranking members and advisors, and the groundwork was laid.

Now, the only thing they need to think about is the architecture of execution.

Piece by piece, a plan took shape.

One that they were quite certain would work.

Davina and Lilliana, as expected, were more versed in this than Rex.

In fact, he said few words throughout the entire conference, deciding to let the sisters take the lead.

And eventually, confidence reigned inside the room—one that was hard-earned, forged by the cold reality that the risks were immense. Davina had stressed whether High Lord Rashal could return to power after being ousted or not.

His answer came without hesitation.

He would not be able to.

Not until High Lord Ursa died, and that would be the same as waiting for an eternity.

The finality of it settled over them, but the plan held.

And then, almost without warning, the day of the banquet arrived.

Now, evening draped itself over Larta City, and Rex stood before a mirror in the penthouse.

He was adjusting his cuffs.

Davina and Lilliana emerged from the door, and the sight of them gave even Rex pause.

They wore dark red dresses, nearly identical—the fabric flowed like liquid wine over their perfect body.

Elegant, deliberate, and a statement altogether.

Rex matched them in a black tuxedo with red accents, the colors of blood and shadow. A formal banquet demanded nothing less. It was the bare minimum. And since they came as representatives of High Lord Rashal’s seconds, they must look presentable.

Just as he marvelled at the two beauties behind him, something disturbed him.

A notification from the System.

It was the reward from the sudden quest for gathering ten thousand Divinity Points.

Perfect timing.
