The Golem Mage

Chapter 1176: Never Cross The Amazon Queen [2].

“Whoa, this bastard still has more powerhouses we have no record of. I guess we need to consult that man again.” Those were Daniel’s final words before the portal swallowed him.

His warriors had already begun retreating when they realized that Saint’s sword golems were not chasing after them, this made many of them smile.

Based on their understanding, they had expected a large number of them to die during the pursuit, but they did not care, in the minds of every fleeing soldier, all that mattered was running faster than the people beside them, because that meant they would get to live longer.

They felt relieved, believing the golems had given up on pursuing them.

However, that was far from the truth.

The Amazon Archer Queen was the reason Saint had ordered his golems not to chase after them, he knew that with that woman present, there was no way the fleeing warriors would escape while they were still within the firing range of her subordinates.

To Saint, sending his golems after them would only hinder the massacre that was about to unfold.

While Connor acted as Alec’s main guard and shield, the Amazon Archer Queen acted as his lance.

“Saint,” the Archer Queen greeted with a nod as she finally reached him.

“Valeria,” Saint replied, greeting her by name.

Valeria then released a sharp whistle.

Immediately, the Amazon Archers who had arrived with her skillfully fired darts from the handguards attached to their left arms, strong metal cables connected each dart to the handguard.

Just like the Barbarian warriors, the Amazon Archers had also received a major upgrade from Alec, and the left-hand guard was one of the most important additions to their new equipment sets.

Alec had asked the system to incorporate the component into their equipment after drawing inspiration from a game he had played in his previous world—CODM’s Ninja class.

“I’ll talk to you later. I have an army to wipe out as a warning to the others,” Valeria said as she fired her hook toward the top of the city wall.

The cable immediately retracted, pulling her upward. As she neared the top, she moved her hand in a certain way, causing the hooked dart to detach, she then kicked off the air as though invisible steps existed beneath her feet, landing gracefully atop the city wall with a level of finesse rarely seen.

About two hundred and fifty of her archers had already spread themselves across the city walls, with many taking up positions around the newly constructed archer towers Alec had built.

“Take aim!”

Without wasting time on pleasantries or speeches, Valeria went straight to the point, as her archers immediately drew their bows, and arrows formed from their Qi appeared along the strings, each one further augmented by the elemental affinity of its wielder.

Two seconds after giving her first command, Valeria gave the order they had all been waiting for.

“Fire.”

Just one word.

That single word caused the night sky to fill with two hundred and fifty arrows, each one charged with a different element to produce various effects and reinforced with Qi for greater penetrative power.

The fleeing warriors had already covered a considerable distance and were celebrating the fact that no one was chasing them when they suddenly heard a loud swooshing sound vibrating through the air.

This caused several of them to look back, the moment they turned, their gazes were instantly drawn toward the sky.

As they saw the dark heavens had been illuminated by the various elemental properties coating the arrows. At that moment, the warriors finally realized that they had not been allowed to escape in the slightest.

“Shields!” one of the higher-ranking warriors shouted, those carrying shields immediately raised them toward the sky, while those without any rushed to gather beneath the protection of those who did.

However, the shields were only so large and couldn’t cover a full two warrior men, then the arrows that had briefly seemed suspended in the night sky finally began their descent.

The swooshing sound grew louder and louder in the ears of the warriors desperately preparing to withstand the barrage.

And then—

And then it fell.

Many of the warriors without shields were killed in that single salvo. However, those carrying shields soon realized that they were not safe in the slightest.

Because the arrows were formed from Qi, they were able to penetrate ordinary defenses and pierce through the clumsy shield formation to strike the warriors hiding beneath it.

Even when some managed to protect their heads, their legs, shoulders, and other exposed parts of their bodies were still vulnerable to the arrows.

With just one salvo, the Amazon Archers killed more than one hundred and fifty warriors and injured another fifty, most of the wounded had been carrying shields, while only a small number of those who raised their shields were killed outright.

However, that single attack had already planted fear in the hearts of the survivors, they now realized that their shields might not be able to save them.

Immediately, they began retreating frantically, hoping they could escape the range of the next salvo, but when the second wave arrived, there was nowhere for them to hide.

This time, another two hundred warriors died, while several more were injured, at this stage, only a few remained alive—

Those whose shields had allow them survive the previous barrage or those who had gotten lucky when the arrows struck areas on their bodies which was not fatal soon faced the next round, and they were not as fortunate during the second salvo as the first.

Because many of them died.

“Fire.”

“Fire.”

Even then, Valeria still ordered two more volleys, and by the end of the third salvo, every enemy warrior was already down, yet she still ordered a fourth just to make sure.

Saint, who had climbed onto the city wall, could not help shivering hearing her orders. Though he was a magical construct who should not have been capable of feeling such things, Valeria’s coldness still shook him to his core.

Afterward, she ordered the other two hundred and fifty Barbarian warriors who had accompanied her forces as protectors for them when they shoot to open the gates and inspect the battlefield.

They were to make sure that none of the enemy warriors were still alive.

She literally wanted them to stab every corpse through the head and make sure none of them were faking their deaths, at that moment, Saint raised both hands in surrender.

He had already decided that Valeria was one woman he would never want to offend.
