THE GOD EATER

The fallen Dao Lord said to Loki, ”A Sect has many purposes. The main purposes are to gain a reliable source of lifespan by draining their disciples with the life leech, gain a source of cheap labor from their disciples, and have a group of helpers helping to create more Divine Metacs for their Supreme Metacs.”

”Aside from these reasons, a Dao Lord can also establish a sect to help people grow stronger and help create more Dao Lords. That’s why I established my sect back then. But not everyone is so magnanimous.”

”Some Dao Lords established their sects to enslave the masses and prevent them from becoming Dao Lords by luring them into a pathway and using their control over the pathway to impose restrictions on the growth of their disciples.”

”And some Dao Lords take things further by establishing sects just to raise Dao Initiates and take the pathways of their disciples. At the end of the day, there is no one main reason. There could be more than one reason to establish a sect, and those reasons could change over time to suit the needs of the Dao Lord.”

”I think that’s the ultimate purpose of a sect. It is to be a tool that suits the needs and fulfills the wishes of a Dao Lord. As for what those wishes could be, they can be endless.”

Nodding in understanding, Loki said, ”I see. What you said makes a lot of sense.”

What he didn’t say was, ”Especially the part about using sects to create Dao Initiates and taking their pathways. That sounds really useful.”

Golden Sun wasn’t a Dao Lord and couldn’t read his thoughts, so the fallen Dao Lord remained blissfully unaware of his takeaway from the answer. But the Dao Lords in the sky saw what he was thinking about loud and clear.

Seeing his thoughts, Heavenly Eye snorted and said, ”What a noob.”

Smiling, Tepid Scholar spoke up to defend him, ”Don’t be so hard on the young dragon. He has never been a Dao Lord, so he has never experienced the feeling of raising leeks. There is no way for him to know that he will get tired of free pathways after a while.”

”If he becomes a Dao Lord, he will realize that there is a limit to how many pathways he can sustain. At that point, such simple pleasures won’t impress him anymore.”

Sneering, Martial Will said in disdain, ”Forget reaching the limit. Most of their pathways are poor Minor Grand Daos. Why will I want their shoddy pathways when I can do better?”

Tepid Scholar, chuckling loudly, said, ”Speak for yourself. I gained the Talisman Pathway, a Grand Dao, from one of my disciples. Black Chains also gained a Cosmic Dao from one of his disciples.”

Shaking her head, Heavenly Eye said in agreement, ”It is only the disciples of your sect that are poor. Not that anyone is surprised. What else can they expect from a sect of brawny giants with no finesse and taste for the finer things?”

With eyes blazing in anger, Martial Will said, ”Are you calling me stupid? Cause, if my disciples, who follow in my footsteps, are stupid, then they can only have learned it from me. Is that what you’re saying?”

Without fear, Heavenly Eye shrugged and said, ”If the shoes fit.”

Like oil tossed into a fire, her words let Martial Will’s anger rise and burn hotter.

The Dao Lord of the Martial Body Sect wasn’t about to let them call him stupid and get away with it. He said, ”Oh yeah. Your disciples are chronic liars and cheaters. They are full of shit just like you.”

”At best, they are shifty. At worst, they are downright deplorable. They are wretched, unredeemable scabs of society just like their Dao Lord. Just like you, they are...”

He went on and on, with Heavenly Eye striking back from time to time, while Tepid Scholar injected some words that added more fuel to the fire of their feud.

During their argument, Black Chains and Sword Maestro didn’t speak. It was clear that Black Chains wasn’t speaking because he had retreated into himself. But Sword Maestro was paying attention to their argument. But for some reason, he didn’t partake in it.

Down below, Loki was asking Golden Sun more questions. Since their deal was made, it had only been a little over a minute. He had asked many questions, most of which Golden Sun was able to answer without any problems.

After the question about the sect, he asked about something else that he had always wanted to know about sects. He said, ”I think I know why Dao Lords restricted their divine beings from having more than four Divine Positions. But why did they also restrict divine beings from having Cave Heavens bigger than 3 billion square kilometers?”

This time, Golden Sun’s voice was full of uncertainty as he said, ”The limitation on the number of Divine Positions is actually recent. I didn’t know that there was such a thing.”

”Usually, Dao Lords like to give their disciples all of the resources they need to become Dao Initiates. That way, they will have stronger labor to use in the Sea of Worlds or be able to harvest the new pathway.”

”That’s how it was in my time. I guess something must have changed their mind about it since my time. They probably reached their limit in how many pathways they can assimilate, which is why they stopped allowing more rank 9 Dao Initiates to be created.”

Loki knew one or more about recent history, so he thought of something, which made him say, ”What about stopping the creation of more rank 9 Dao Initiates to stop more Dao Lords from appearing?”

Wavering in uncertainty, Golden Sun said, ”It could be. But I don’t see how the presence of Dao Initiates could lead to the appearance of more Dao Lords.”

”You see, the number of rank 9 Dao Initiates doesn’t matter. What matters is the will of Dao Lords.”
