THE GOD EATER

Chapter 5: Somewhat Talented.

After smiling, he shook his head and said, ”You won’t understand how difficult it is to increase the size of one’s energy well until later when you’re informed. But I want to tell you that while the natural limit of the potential of us humans is 90, some other creatures have twice as much as this.”

”I’ve even heard that dragons awakened with energy wells with an energy capacity in the thousands and tens of thousands. Can you imagine that? How envious.”

Muni had asked them that question with a look of awe on his face. The look on his face made them contemplate the question seriously, and no matter what they thought of him, they all agreed with him that it was envious that dragons had an energy capacity in the tens of thousands.

But Loki wasn’t thinking about dragons and how large their energy well was at all. He was thinking about what Muni had said about how the limit of the energy capacity of humans was 90. He found this difficult to believe because Slav had awakened with an energy capacity of 95 units.

He thought to himself as he glanced briefly at Slav, ”If Muni is right, then Slav can’t be a human. Or at least, Slav can’t be a normal and natural human.”

While he was deep in thought, Muni was still continuing his impassioned lesson. Muni said wistfully, ”It is said that dragons are the darlings of energy, and if one can find and absorb the energy well of a dragon, one will be able to increase the size of their energy well. Unfortunately for me, I have not been so lucky.”

Then he shook his head to put away thoughts of his relatively unsuccessful quest to increase his talent and returned to the matter of cultivation.

He said to them, ”Let me explain how to nourish the energy well with life energy and cultivate. This is very important, so you should pay attention. If I am willing to spend most of the day on this matter, then the least that you can do is to pay attention.”

After saying this, he began explaining the process of cultivation to them. As he explained, he prompted them to try out what he said and ask him questions about things that they don’t understand.

Loki paid attention and did as he was told. He was focused on the work, so he quickly realized that cultivation was exhausting both mentally and physically.

In order to nourish one’s energy well, one must focus on the energy well and use one’s mind to swirl the life energy within the energy well in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction. So in summary, cultivation is stirring the life energy in a well like one would stir a soup in a pot.

The swirling motion of the life energy will force it into the walls of the energy wall and refine it. The more energy in the energy well and the larger the energy well, the faster the walls of the energy well will be refined, so the faster the cultivation will be.

As cultivation progresses, the transparency of the energy well will slowly disappear as the walls of the energy well become cloudy. According to Muni, once the glass walls become completely foggy, they would have advanced to the next stage of cultivation, which is the middle of rank 1.

They are all currently at the early stage of rank 1. They will have to go through the middle, late, and peak stages of rank 1 before they are ready to advance to rank 2.

In general, the more talented someone is, the faster their cultivation speed. But another important factor is the speed of the swirling motion during cultivation.

Muni said that the faster the swirling motion and the longer the life energy is swirled at a time, the better the refinement of the walls of the energy well. So, longer cultivation sessions are better than shorter cultivation sessions, even if one cultivates for the same amount of time in a day.

The matter of the capacity and size of the energy well can’t be changed or influenced. But the speed and duration of the swirling motion can be influenced, and it is determined by hard work and diligent focus.

Life energy is consumed as it is pushed into the walls of the energy well and used to refine the energy well. In order to replenish the lost life energy, the body will transfer its energy into the energy well. This makes cultivators become hungry fairly quickly.

As cultivation continues, the energy from the body is siphoned into the energy well, which makes the body feel weaker and weaker. Only diligent people can continue to cultivate despite the hunger and general body weakness.

In order to swirl the life energy and swirl it at a fast speed, one must also focus. So cultivation taxes the mind as well as the body, which was why he became physically and mentally tired during the process.

After cultivating for a few minutes, Loki got a headache, and his body felt tired as if he had just run a marathon. The tiredness of his body wasn’t a problem for him because he was no stranger to being hungry, but the headache was very troublesome to deal with. This is even though his mind seemed to be stronger than the minds of others.

He didn’t notice that he could focus longer than others, though. It was Muni who noticed this and pointed it out to him.

Muni walked up to him and said to him, ”You don’t get headaches as much as others, and you seem to be able to focus more than others, so I suspect that your mind is twice as strong as that of your peers.”

Muni didn’t quietly say this to him. He said it out loud, so everyone was able to hear the remark.

No one was happy to hear that his mind was stronger than theirs, as that meant that he would be a strong competitor. Slav, in particular, was most unhappy to hear that Loki’s mind was very strong.
