The Glorious Evolution

Yanhuan screamed and began striking the blue misty wall in front of him wildly, his fists and legs slamming into the smoke.

Instantly, copies of those attacks burst out from dozens of small blue clouds around Levi, emerging without warning!

”Vanishing Strikes!” Li Mei covered her mouth. ”He is risking his limbs amidst the storm of spatial blades...”

Guo Shi and the rest of Yanhuan’s teammates showed solemn expressions at the sight of their captain going mad, uncaring anymore about his well-being. They only wished that the end would be in his favor after everything he went through for this chance... for this moment to redeem himself.

Alas... Levi was already deep in the zone.

Whoosh! Whoosh!...

Each vanishing strike disturbed the air and its frequencies before they formed... Levi felt the changes and evaded them with minimal movements.

He leaned his head to the side from a kick that missed his face by inches, and then he twisted his body as a punch grazed his back.

When he noticed a great disturbance affecting the frequencies within him, Levi instantly planted his staff on the ground and vaulted on top, standing on the tip with a single toe while still evading the incoming punches and kicks flying in his direction.

The moment the spatial storm died off underneath, he flipped over Yanhuan’s sweeping leg, and then planted one hand on the floor, spinning aside as another spatial blade tore past his torso.

He did all of this without lifting his head, his ethereal green hair flailing as it caught the dome’s soft illumination.

The watchers could only stare with widened, awed eyes… if not for Levi’s clothes being slightly torn by the spatial blades, they might have thought they were watching a martial arts dance performance.

”He is so cool...” a blue-eyed child murmured.

He was sitting on top of his father’s shoulders, his gleaming sapphire eyes reflecting nothing but Levi walking confidently on strings of death.

”Luke... do you know why he wears a black cloth over his eyes?” his father asked.

”No, daddy...”

”It’s because he is blind.”

The father’s expression was filled with admiration as he uttered those words, feeling like he was telling a story of a myth, a legend, of a person who wasn’t meant to reach anything but an early death.

And yet… here he was. Despite a disability considered a death sentence across the world, he moved as if the Grim Reaper had nothing against him.

He was The Hope for anyone aspiring to become Daywalkers.

”Woah... I wanna be blind too, so I can be as cool of a Daywalker as him!” the child clapped his hands excitedly.

”...”

The father’s lips twitched... he wanted to use Levi as an example of what it meant to do whatever it took to defy one’s proclaimed destiny... instead, his son saw blindness as a gift only because Levi made it appear as such to others.

But in reality… the father knew that no matter how hard he tried to imagine Levi’s struggles with his disability in this new age, he would still fail terribly.

While the father was correcting his son’s thought process lest he end up blinding himself for real, Yanhuan’s expression was getting uglier by the second.

’Why! Why! Why! Why can’t I hit him!! Why can’t I win against him! JUST WHY!!!’

Yanhuan felt his life flash past his mind each time he fired a vanishing strike, putting his limbs in the crosshairs of the chaotic spatial storm... he had already suffered from light cuts and grazes, surviving only through luck.

Yet... Levi was still unharmed by everything he put him through, like a cockroach that gained immunity against all types of sprays.

’It can’t end like this... not in front of my father, not in front of every... cough!!’

Suddenly, Yanhuan coughed out a mouthful of blood... it sprayed across the blue mist wall and splattered Levi’s clothes a little from the emerging blue clouds.

Levi glanced at him for a split second, and when he noticed that Yanhuan was trying to stop himself from puking more blood, he frowned.

”Yanhuan... admit defeat. If you keep forcing your unnatural mutation, you will provoke an Evolutionary Collapse!” Levi warned sternly while blocking two spatial blades with his staff.

”NE... cough... VER!”

Yanhuan couldn’t even get a single word out without spilling another mouthful of blood, his face already turning as pale as a ghost... his eardrums had been healed after he went through that transformation.

’Wei-Lan... for how long are you going to watch this madness?’ Dominic sent a dimensional message, his expression as cold as it could get.

He wanted to interfere, to end the fight before Yanhuan brought an early damnation on himself from Evolutionary Collapse... it was one of the scariest experiences anyone could go through, as it didn’t just lead to a certain death, but how it achieved it.

When unnatural evolutions mixed with the natural evolutionary path, it could mess with the entire dynamic. If it reached an extreme state of unbalance, the Shadowlife Seed wouldn’t hesitate to finish off the host by collapsing their entire genetic code to save itself.

It was like a self-destruction mechanism, and once activated... the host would turn into a monstrous creature with all genetic codes jumbled together for some time before the host was melted down into a steaming goo.

Such a fate was too horrible; no one would wish it upon their worst enemies... and yet.

’If you interfere without him admitting defeat, I will consider it as his victory.’ Wei-Lan replied indifferently.

’Wei-Lan... You’re genuinely one of the worst fathers in the history of mankind.’ Dominic’s heart chilled a little, beginning to understand his friend more and more.

’I couldn’t care less,’ Wei-Lan sneered. ’A child of mine who can’t be number one isn’t worthy of my surname… not that ungrateful runaway, and certainly not this weakling.’

’You... you’re something else.’ Dominic lost all faith and hope in him.

Meanwhile, Yanhuan also refused to cancel the Overload Mutation, which was putting an immense strain on his body.

Instead, he snapped his Briar Pipe in front of the wall and started creating tiny blue liquid bullets!

They were dense, unstable, and packed with violent spatial disturbance... he fired them in rapid bursts, the bullets instantly teleporting across the arena and bombarding Levi.

”Then, you leave me no choice...”
