Chapter 86: Chapter 86: Who Are They? Why Were They Killed?

After a moment, Li Jian asked, ”Since the killer likely stomped on both victims’ chests, causing rib fractures, didn’t the victims resist when attacked?”

Jiang An replied, ”Mr. Li, when examining the distribution of rib fractures on the victims’ chests, there are many similarities.”

”This fully indicates that the injured positions of the two victims are essentially consistent.”

Jiang An continued to add, ”For us normal adults, it is certain to resist when conscious during an attack.”

”Therefore, it is very likely that these two victims lost consciousness due to the attack, thereby suffering injuries in the same position, which is why the fracture distribution is similar.”

”I suspect that both victims might have lost consciousness due to poisoning.”

”Poisoning?”

Instantly, everyone turned their gaze to Jiang An again.

Standing beside Jiang An, Zhang Yean said, ”I remember in the last case, you mentioned that toxicology testing requires extracting the victim’s stomach contents, food, or blood.”

”But in the current case, none of these samples exist.”

Wan Junjie also glanced back at the White Bone and said, ”In this situation, even if the victim was poisoned, we can’t prove it.”

At this critical moment, Li Jian involuntarily looked up at Jiang An.

He hoped Jiang An could come up with a solution.

After a moment, Jiang An began to speak, ”Under normal circumstances, for a complete body, we extract the victim’s stomach contents, food, or blood for toxicology testing.”

”This body has already turned into a skeleton, but I think there are still conditions for testing.”

”Can that really work?”

”Is there only bone left?”

Zhang Yean and Wan Junjie immediately widened their eyes and looked at Jiang An.

Jiang An said in a deep voice, ”Assuming the victim was poisoned, whether the toxin was in the stomach or blood, once the body decays to bones, the toxin would be absorbed into the surrounding soil.”

”We can fully extract the soil surrounding the body to test for residual toxins.”

Instantly, Zhang Yean said, ”That’s a good idea.”

”I studied biology in high school; this is called the principle of osmosis.”

Others also nodded in agreement.

Immediately, Zhang Yean bent down to pick up a clear evidence bag.

”Forensic expert, which spot’s soil should we extract to test for toxins?”

Jiang An raised his hand and pointed to the soil surrounding the lumbar spine not far away.

He said, ”Earlier, I noticed the two victims were buried in a supine position.”

”According to gravitational principles, toxins inside the victims should permeate and gather in the soil at the back.”

”Okay, I will immediately extract the soil beside the lumbar spine and send it to the toxicology lab for testing.”

Li Jian nodded and said, ”If we can detect toxin residues in the soil at the back, it would explain why the victims didn’t resist when harmed.”

After a slight pause, Jiang An said, ”Therefore, regarding the cause of death, I think it’s highly likely that they died from poisoning.”

Wan Junjie asked, ”Did the victims suffer violent blows after being poisoned to death?”

Jiang An replied, ”That is one possibility.”

”There is also another possibility.”

”If the poison only rendered them incapable of resisting, the killer might have inflicted blows while the victims were still alive.”

Standing across, Zhang Chao raised his eyebrows, thinking to himself that if harmed while alive, they might have been killed by the pain.

After speaking about the second aspect, Jiang An continued, ”The third aspect, analysis of the victims’ characteristics.”

”From the characteristics of the pubic symphysis, both victims are female.”

”Their ages are 23 and 22 respectively.”

”Among them, the 22-year-old female victim has childbirth scars on the pubic symphysis, leading me to infer she had a history of childbirth.”

”As for their heights, based on the length of the femur, I infer both are similar in height, approximately 1.62 meters to 1.65 meters.”

After finishing, Jiang An glanced at the White Bone on the ground.

He said, ”Actually, this case is not strictly a dismemberment and body dumping incident.”

”Because the killer committed a non-typical dismemberment act.”

Zhang Yean curiously asked, ”What is non-typical dismemberment?”

Jiang An explained, ”While excavating the White Bone, I noticed the arrangement of the torso and upper limbs conformed to normal body structure features.”

”However, the distribution of the bones in the lower limbs was very chaotic.”

”Moreover, there were signs of separation and cutting both ends of the femur, indicating the killer only dismembered the lower limbs.”

”Of course, one of the skulls was also severed at the second cervical vertebra, which may have some special significance beyond just dumping the body.”

”For all dismemberment cases, the primary purpose is usually to facilitate body disposal.”

Then, he frowned and said, ”However, the dismemberment marks on these two victims’ bodies are not typical.”

Li Jian asked, ”Is it possible the killer’s original plan wasn’t dismemberment?”

Jiang An pondered for a while and said, ”Mr. Li, my thoughts align with yours.”

”I also think the killer’s separation of the victims’ lower limbs was a spur-of-the-moment decision rather than premeditated.”

Zhang Yean speculated, ”Could it be that cutting just a small section was convenient for the killer?”

Jiang An suddenly asked, ”In our department, how large are the black garbage bags in the dumpsters?”

Wan Junjie replied, ”In the large dumpsters, they hold black garbage bags 1.2 meters in length.”

Zhang Yean asked, ”Wan, how do you know so well?”

”Of course, recently I’ve been renovating my house and having cleaning services; they use large garbage bags.”

After hearing this, Jiang An nodded and said, ”Just now, I saw black garbage bag residue on the White Bone.”

”The victims’ heights are over 1.6 meters.”

”I guess the killer used the 1.2-meter-sized garbage bags.”

Wan Junjie asked, ”I’ve seen those large garbage bags.”

”Actually, by curling up the legs, a body could fit inside.”

Jiang An said in a deep voice, ”Just deceased individuals can bend limbs, but after rigor mortis sets in three hours post-mortem, limbs can’t be bent.”

”I suspect that when the killer was transporting the bodies, rigor mortis had already set in.”

”Therefore, the killer temporarily thought of separating the lower limbs by cutting them apart.”

Just after speaking, Jiang An’s pupils suddenly shrank, as an astonishing discovery flashed in his mind.

After a moment.

Li Jian concluded, ”Jiang An’s analysis just now was excellent.”

”From the time of death, cause of death, to individual characteristics, I completely agree.”

”Now, we are very certain that this is a case of murder, followed by body dumping and burial.”

”For any murder case, we must first determine who the victim is to understand why they were killed.”

”Therefore, the key task now is to identify the victims.”

”On one hand, we will focus on this area, enhancing patrols within our jurisdiction, particularly investigating entertainment venues and health spas.”

”On the other hand, review any missing person’s reports similar in nature from the past year.”

After assigning the tasks, Jiang An walked over to Zhang Chao and said, ”Mr. Zhang, can you find plaster and clay here?”

”Plaster? Clay?”

Zhang Chao asked with a surprised expression, ”Mr. Jiang, why do you suddenly need these things?”

Jiang An nodded and said, ”They might assist in solving this case.”
