“Grandfather, have you forgotten?

My mother was still hovering at the Ghost Gate yesterday,” Yang Ruxin scoffed coldly, viewing the entire family as though they considered the orphan and widow of the main house as rightful slaves, “She’ll need to change her dressing later today, so she can’t work the land…”

Yang Peili frowned slightly; the eldest son’s wife was efficient at work, even men might not be able to match her.

“Grandfather, aren’t my second uncle and fourth uncle here today?” Yang Ruxin smiled, “Working the land is originally a man’s job, isn’t it?

Over the past years, my mother has been treated as a man, it’s time for her to rest.”

“Does your main house not eat or drink?” Yang Anshi wasn’t pleased.

She had been holding back all morning.

Now, hearing Yang Ruxin’s words, she burst out from the main room, “Grew up on northwest winds?

If you don’t work the land today, don’t even think about getting a single grain of food from this family ever again…”

“Mother, I’ll do my sister-in-law’s work…” Yang Baixiang suddenly spoke up, “You all…”

“It’s none of your business, go away,” Yang Anshi glared at her youngest son.

Yang Ruxin smiled again: “Young uncle, thank you, but there’s no need.

We didn’t say we wouldn’t go.

My mother is ill, and as the eldest sister, I’m leading Erni to follow grandfather to the fields.

Surely, we count as labor too?”

Yang Anshi wanted to say more, but she was stopped by the Yang patriarch: “Enough, stop your nagging.” He then glanced at his second and fourth sons who were clearly reluctant to leave the house, “Let Ruyu and Ruban join in the field work too.”

Upon hearing this, Yang Ruyu immediately looked toward her mother with a plea for help.

“Father,” Feng Caie couldn’t stand it, “Let Ruyu off, she needs to help me prepare lunch later.”

“Yes, grandfather, I just learned a new dish from my maternal grandfather, and I’ll cook it for you all at lunch…” Yang Ruyu chimed in eagerly.

“I’m not going either,” Yang Ruban interjected, turning to run away.

He didn’t want to work at all, especially not with Yang Dani, that she-devil.

He preferred going to the riverside to catch and grill fish.

“You good-for-nothing…” Yang Baichuan yelled as he saw his son running away, but the boy was already out of sight.

Feng Caie’s lips curved slightly; in her heart, she praised her son’s cleverness.

Yang Ruxin looked at the Yang patriarch with irony.

“Fine.” The Yang patriarch did not dare look Yang Ruxin in the eye, he just sighed, then waved his hand, leading the three sons and the two Yang sisters out of the door in a grand procession to the fields.

As Yang Ruxin walked, she surveyed the places they passed by, mountains in the distance, fields nearby, and the Xiaocang River winding around like a silver ribbon, truly evoking the sentiment of a bridge over gentle waters by the homes.

The view was filled with lush, verdant greens, and from time to time, bird calls could be heard; the sky was as blue as if it had been washed clean.

Taking a deep breath, the air even had the fragrance of soil.

Although the road under her feet was difficult to traverse, full of pits and unevenness, now and then colorful wildflowers would pop up.

Even if a small puddle appeared by the roadside, the water in it was crystal clear, devoid of chemical pollution, smog, or mutated vegetables…

She felt an instant affection for this place.

If it hadn’t been an inappropriate time, she really wanted to shout out loud.

They soon left the village and after roughly half an hour, the Yang patriarch finally stopped because they had reached the Yang Family’s land.
