The Entry-plundering Demon Hunter

Chapter 185: Chapter 185: Plunder the Entry?

After a few seconds of silence.

Tang Qinru’s voice was gentle as she asked, ”Have you made up your mind?”

”Xingwu University is a direct feeder for the Demon Hunting Bureau!”

”Once you enroll, there’s a ninety-percent chance you’ll be assigned to work for the Demon Hunting Bureau.

You know how dangerous that place is without me having to tell you. Have you really thought this through?”

Tang Qinru’s tone was grave.

It wasn’t a harsh interrogation.

She just wanted to make sure Lin Yi was truly prepared for and committed to his choice of university.

Lin Yi laughed. ”Sister Qingru, at least three people have asked me that same question today!”

”My answer is still the same. I’ve thought it through!”

”I considered everything even before I chose to apply to Xingwu University!”

There was another brief silence on the phone.

A few seconds later, Tang Qinru chuckled lightly and said, ”Alright. Since you’ve made your decision, I’ll support you unconditionally. When you’re coming to the New District, give me a call beforehand. I’ll come pick you up!”

”Okay!” Lin Yi nodded with a smile.

”By the way, is the house a mess? You haven’t brought any of your shady friends back there, have you?”

”Sister, what shady friends? It was just Wei Nan, and this morning he was stopped by security outside the district. They almost got into a fight...”

”Huh? What happened?”

Tang Qinru was taken aback, then asked with great interest.

Lin Yi recounted the morning’s events in detail.

”It was that Qian Gang again, wasn’t it?”

Tang Qinru’s tone instantly turned icy.

Lin Yi paused, seeming to catch a hint of something unsaid.

He quickly asked, ”Sister, what’s wrong? Do you know that Qian Gang?”

”Why would I know him? He harassed me before, that’s all. The man is infamous in the district for constantly cursing out residents and harassing young women. It’s happened more than once or twice!”

At the mention of this Qian Gang, Tang Qinru could barely contain her anger.

”Then why hasn’t the property management fired him? It can’t be as simple as they can’t find a replacement, right?” Lin Yi found it strange.

Although being a security guard was a relatively dangerous job, and the pay wasn’t high, in the Old District’s job market, it shouldn’t be that difficult to hire someone.

Besides, Qian Gang’s reputation in the district was already in the gutter.

Yet the property management did nothing, as if they were blind and deaf to it.

It was truly hard to understand.

Tang Qinru sighed softly. ”You probably don’t know, do you? The property manager is that Qian Gang’s brother-in-law!”

Those words were a rude awakening.

The realization hit Lin Yi. ”So that’s what’s going on! No wonder he’s so brazen!”

”Okay, just focus on waiting for your acceptance letter. Once it arrives, come straight to the New District. Don’t stir up any trouble these next few days, and don’t go looking for that Qian Gang!” Tang Qinru warned.

Lin Yi nodded. ”Sister, I’m not the type to look for trouble. Don’t worry!”

”Good. Get some rest. If you have time in the next couple of days, get your things packed.

Especially at night, don’t go wandering outside. And... stay away from that Chu Zhengxiong. Nothing good ever happens when you’re around him!”

”I can’t get back to the Old District right now, so you have to protect yourself. Do you understand?”

”Okay, I understand!”

After exchanging a few more words, they hung up.

Lin Yi then looked out the window.

”Qian Gang...” he muttered to himself.

...

The night was dark, the moon hazy.

The streets and alleys of Xinghai City were silent and empty.

The people living here had long grown accustomed to this way of life.

Occasionally, a Martial Arts Police Station patrol car could be seen speeding down the road.

「Jingnan Hufu District, inside the security office.」

Qian Gang and two other guards of a similar age were inside, drinking and playing cards.

”Pay up, pay up! You two suck at this. Hurry up...”

Qian Gang’s face was flushed, and his words were slurred.

The other two guards exchanged a smile.

”Brother Gang, your luck is amazing today, huh?”

”What do you mean, ’today’? When has Brother Gang’s luck ever been bad?”

”Right, right, that’s true...”

The two of them took turns flattering Qian Gang.

Qian Gang glanced at them. ”What’s with you two today? Did you smear honey on your lips? You must want my help with something. Go on, let’s hear it.”

As soon as he said it, the two exchanged another smile.

The security guard with the slightly darker skin said, ”Brother Gang, how about we go pull a job?”

”What do you mean? What kind of job?” Qian Gang frowned, giving Xiaohai a strange look.

The other guard, who was a bit chubbier, lowered his voice. ”Brother Gang, we’ve already cased the place. A resident in Building 3, Unit 2. She’s a young girl. Not only is she gorgeous, but her family is well-off too. She’s all alone, guaranteed no one else is there!”

”We’ve been watching her for a long time... As long as you agree, we go pull the job, and after we’ve taken the stuff, the girl can...’pay respect’ to Brother Gang...”

”Fuck off!”

After they finished, Qian Gang cursed at them.

Instantly, the two guards’ expressions changed drastically.

They thought Qian Gang was angry and were about to backtrack with an excuse.

But then a glint flashed in Qian Gang’s eyes, turning somewhat sinister.

He beckoned them with his finger, and the three of them huddled together.

”What’s the girl’s identity? Have you checked her background? Is she a Martial Artist?

I’m telling you, if she is a Martial Artist, we need to know her level. If she’s too high-level, the three of us together won’t be able to handle her!”

”I had my eye on that woman with the surname Tang before. Don’t even get me started on her looks; any man who saw her would be weak in the knees. And she was rich... Too bad some little bastard moved into her place later!”

”Her younger brother or something, a Martial Arts practitioner. I never got a chance to make a move. Otherwise... I would’ve had that bitch a long time ago, sigh!”

A savage look crossed Qian Gang’s face.

The other two guards both nodded.

”We’ve seen her. She’s definitely gorgeous!”

”Yeah, what a shame. Brother Gang, we can’t miss out this time. We don’t know her identity, so why don’t you check? Aren’t the residents’ files right here in our security office?”

Egged on by Xiaohai and Xiaopang,

and fueled by the alcohol, Qian Gang’s courage swelled to an unprecedented size.

The thought of the woman he’d missed out on before still gnawed at him.

Now that they had found new prey, he absolutely couldn’t let this opportunity slip by.

He nodded and said, ”Alright, you guys wait here. I’m gonna go take a piss, then I’ll come back and check her file!”

”Brother, take it easy. Want me to go with you?”

”No need, just wait here!”

Qian Gang waved his hand dismissively, stood up, and staggered outside.

As he pushed open the door to the security office, a blast of cold wind hit him.

It made him shiver violently.

The cold sobered him up a bit, and he glanced around.

It was pitch black outside, without a soul in sight.

He walked out of the security office, circled around to a dark area at the side, and prepared to unbuckle his pants to relieve himself.

As the property manager’s brother-in-law,

Qian Gang was used to being arrogant and domineering here. Even if he caused trouble, his manager brother-in-law would cover for him. Nothing serious would ever come of it.

As for the girl the other two guards had mentioned,

even if something did happen, so what?

Public safety in the Old District was already rotten to the core. Even the Martial Arts Police Station and the public security teams rarely bothered with these things.

At worst, they could just blame it on a demon beast. The authorities would pretend to investigate for a bit and then pack up and leave.

This sort of thing happened all the time in the Old District.

Who would care? No one ever really investigated these incidents.

No matter the case, it was always blamed on demon beasts, making them the scapegoats.

Over time, this had become a common tactic in the Old District.

Therefore, Qian Gang felt no burden on his conscience.

SSSHHHHHHH—

The piss seemed to last forever.

When he was finally done, Qian Gang couldn’t help but shiver again.

He pulled up his pants, whistling, his mood improving even more.

The thought of going after that girl later sent an indescribable heat through him, making his heart race with excitement.

But just as he was pulling up his pants and turning around,

suddenly, a figure clad in black—a Black Impermanence—was standing right in front of him.

In an instant, Qian Gang’s entire body went numb.

His scalp tingled, then lost all feeling.

It was as if he’d even forgotten the instinct to scream.

He stood there, frozen stiff, his limbs refusing to obey him.

The Black Impermanence stared at him coldly.

The next moment, a cold light flashed.

SHLICK—

Blood sprayed out. Qian Gang hastily raised a hand to clutch his neck.

His eyes were locked on the Black Impermanence before him. Even in death, he couldn’t understand why he was being killed.

Until his body toppled over, landing right where he had just urinated.
