The Devil Does Not Need to Be Defeated

Chapter 62: This Time, He Really Did Get Done In

As for the private agreement between Vivian and Leili, Shien naturally didnʼt know a thing about it.

Shien could only keep letting out a dry laugh while his head spun furiously trying to find a way to somehow fix up his lie.

Only, Vivian still acted as normal and didnʼt show any intent to keep pursuing the matter, like she only said all that just to tease a certain person. The next second, she had already changed the topic.

”Anyways, thatʼs the current situation. Due to the anomaly and the Old Demon Faction, Lamdrionʼs going to be busy for the next while. Leili is also planning for the bigger incidents to come following, so right now, sheʼs contacting the adventurerʼs guild over in the capital.”

That is also the style of that lady who loves being proactive.

”Then, what about that person from the Old Demon Faction?” Melika asked worriedly, ”Although heʼs subjugated for now, given how high his level is, is there anyone really capable of keeping him under restraint in Lamdrion?”

That was also a natural concern.

It must be said. Even in the entirety of the adventurerʼs guild, there are only 33 people whose level have reached above level 70. Although this number was limited to just the adventurers and there are many more higher level existences within this territory and Kingdom at large. However, Lamdrion isnʼt a particularly major city within the Mitra Kingdom either, so it would be difficult for them to dig up enough people capable of suppressing a demon on the level of Jillian.

Even Diere had raised her head to give her own appraisal.

”Within Lamdrion, right now the highest leveled person is the captain of the third knight brigade, Balon Murrow.” Diere spoke coldly, ”Although captain Balon is the third son of the Murrow Marquis family who governs this territory, and with that comes great authority. You can say that heʼs the highest authority here in Lamdrion and only guildmaster Leili can be said to be his equal, but his level hasnʼt even reached level 70 yet, right?”

”Indeed.” Vivian nodded, ”After all, Mr. Balon is only 28 this year. If not for the fact that heʼs the third son of the Murrow family and the fact that heʼs the most talented child of that family, thereʼs no way that he would have been able to be in charge of the third knight brigade and sent to hold this place at his age.”

The Murrow family is a marquis family. They are quite great in scope, so the territories under their governance also included many towns besides Lamdrion. Therefore, it was easy to imagine just how big their territory really was.

And that Murrow family only had three knight brigades directly under them. Every single knight brigade had over 3000 knights.

And then, the one to lead those knights numbering nearly 10,000 strong are the three captains of the brigades and a single commander above them.

Those four people are the highest official fighting power within the territory. Other than the adventurers who tend to wander all across the world, there are basically no other people of a higher level than them here.

Under such circumstances, the levels of those four are naturally not low by any means. Every single knight captain is at least level 70, and the commander needs to have reached at least level 80.

Of course, those are the marquis familyʼs rules. If it was a nobility below them like a count, viscount, or baron, their territoryʼs fighting power would obviously not be on the same level.

As for the highest noble rank of duke that only those who were once royalty could obtain, they would have at least 7 knight brigades under them, and they would have tens of thousands of knights under them at least. It wouldnʼt be unusual for the knight captains and the knight commander to all have reached above level 80 either.

Only, thatʼs just in the Mitra Kingdom.

As the kingdom that was founded by the Hero who once defeated the Demon King, Mitra Kingdom was one of the top superpowers on the continent. It wasnʼt something that most other kingdoms could compare to.

Putting aside all the other factors and just considering the knight brigades alone. To be a knight, the lowest requirement is to have reached level 30. Anyone who havenʼt reached that requirement would all just be normal soldiers and guards. Therefore, it was obvious just how hard it would be to become the captain of a territoryʼs knight brigade.

However, the captain of the third knight brigade under Marquis Murrow havenʼt reached level 70 yet.

The reason for that is unquestionable because he was the familyʼs third son. He had high potential too, so the family allowed him to directly take the position. Thus, he became the captain of the third knight brigade and was sent to Lamdrion. Although it was officially to guard it, in reality, it was basically the same as having him govern this town.

Due to that reason, the one to currently govern Lamdrion ended up being the captain of a knight brigade. It was because he was a noble from the start.

”Mr. Balonʼs current level is 68. He should be able to successfully reach level 70 by the time heʼs 30, right?” Vivian so explained, ”Back then when he first took over in Lamdrion, the citizenry were all overjoyed.”

When it comes to a territory, other than the central city of that territory, the other cities and towns were all governed by the family members or subordinates sent by the noble family in charge.

For those places, their battle power would of course be unable to match that of the territory capital.

Take the Murrow marquis territory for example. The highest battle power of some towns within it donʼt even reach level 60.

Under such circumstances, for Lamdrion to be directly governed by someone so high in level and noble rank, and also leading one of the territoryʼs three knight brigades at that, how could the citizens not be overjoyed at it?

But this one time, Lamdrionʼs strongest fighting power was obviously not enough.

”The opponent is an elite demon at level 77, and he was also a noted talent under the Dragon Demon. It could be seen from the capitalʼs mass assassination incident ten year ago that this person isnʼt someone that normal people could deal with.”

As she said that, Diere hid a glance at Shien.

”Thankfully, this time someone was able to subjugate him, but next time might be a different matter.”

It wasnʼt hard at all to tell the meaning behind those words.

”I know.” Vivian nodded again and spoke with seriousness, ”Leili already spoke with Mr. Balon. They should have some kind of plan for that. We just need to properly do our own job.”

With those words, everyone instantly took note.

”Our job?”

Shien also spoke up questioningly.

Vivianʼs expression turned serious.

”Actually, Lieli had a request for our party.” Vivian spoke, ”Sheʼll deal with the matter of the Old Demon Faction causing that anomaly, but what we need to do is to find the person that the Old Demon Faction is looking for.”

Hearing that, everyone turned serious.

”Find her?”

Only Shien had the corner of his eye twitch and had no words to speak.

Vivian, who didnʼt notice Shienʼs change, thus spoke.

”The one that the Old Demon Faction is seeking is here in Lamdrion right now. This matter is therefore a very unstable factor.”

”Therefore, we must find her, investigate her goal for coming here to Lamdrion, and even figure out the cause behind this whole incident.”

”That is the quest that the guildmaster personally gave us.”

Thus, this was Vivianʼs partyʼs job for the day.

”The grade of this quest is platinum. Depending on the situation, it could even rise to mithril or even obsidian grade.”

This was unquestionably a high grade quest that the entire Vivian party had only taken a handful of times.

”B-But how are we supposed to find her?”

”Our numbers as so few. If they want to find a single person in all of Lamdrion, it would have been better to hand it to the knight brigade.”

Lumia and Melika spoke up one after another.

Only Diere slightly lowered her head before speaking up.

”I actually have a clue.”

As she said that, Deire took out an item from underneath her cloak.

When he saw the item in question, Shienʼs eyes popped wide open while swearing loudly in his mind.

This time, he really did get done in.
