The Daily Life Of A Cyberpunk Magician

Chapter 602 - 307 The Final Act of Magic_2
In some ways, this could also be considered a method of misdirection to shift attention.

If the president hadn’t been tied to the wheel, he wouldn’t have discovered the secret even if he encountered it ten times more. But now...

Being too close to this wheel actually made it possible to discover something.

The principle of the Flying Knife magic trick was really quite simple, just like all other magic principles — simple at heart, but complex in execution.

This magic trick was widely performed in the past, where the magician would throw flying knives towards a beautiful woman tied to a spinning disk, each knife dramatically landing next to her without causing any harm.

The thrill of the flying knives along with the allure of the beautiful woman easily stirred up the stage atmosphere.

The knives were thrown and landed in the wheel.

In reality, this could be divided into two actions, which were the core principles of the trick.

The magician didn’t actually throw the knife; he made a feigned action, then successfully hid the knife on his person.

Then, a knife previously prepared behind the wheel would instantly penetrate through to the front via a mechanism, creating the illusion of stabbing into the wheel.

Before, Jiang Shu had conducted numerous experiments; the knife that penetrated the wheel also produced a slight vibration, which could mislead the president about the feeling of the knife, making it unclear whether it had penetrated from the front or the back.

However, if someone constantly focused on the wheel itself, they might still notice something odd.

Moreover, the mechanism behind the wheel worked sequentially, meaning the position of each flying knife followed a specific order. At that time, the president seemed to have noticed this and had anticipated from his left.

His prediction was correct, but at the fourth throw, Jiang Shu decisively changed strategies. He couldn’t let the president realize this, so it seemed like he was making it easy for the president.

In reality, he had thoroughly destroyed the president’s possibility of winning.

The fifth knife would still appear to the president’s left, just a bit inside the left shoulder.

If the president still used his right hand, he could barely see that position, but now his right hand was injured, and he could only use his left.

As he lifted his left hand to prepare, his left shoulder blocked part of his view, making the knife invisible to the president at that moment.

His last opportunity was gone.

Although the president still held great hope for his future, he had already lost at this moment, with no chance of turning the game around.

”Can we proceed? The game should continue,” Jiang Shu said, looking at the president, his eyes now only showing indifference. He didn’t plan to continue the game; the next round was to be his last.

”Continue, continue,” the president instructed his supervisor and turned to Jiang Shu.

Now, his desire for survival filled his mind. In this state of mind, he felt he was getting closer and closer to escaping this place.

”The next knife will be my last turn,” and at that moment, Jiang Shu suddenly remarked, causing the president’s face to turn pale.

”What... what do you mean?” The president had not expected such a twist from Jiang Shu.

It was just like predicting his moves once again.

He was so close to winning...

The meaning of ’the last turn’ is just that, the last,” Jiang Shu sighed, his tone suggesting boredom with the game, ”After all, I only have one last question to ask you.”

The president clenched his teeth.

Although he was extremely reluctant, he had no choice but to accept.

After all, the game was set by the other party.

At this point, his only choice was to fight to the death. He had to trust his judgment; that knife...

Wasn’t launched from Jiang Shu’s hand.

So, where would it appear?

The president looked left, then right, quickly determining a direction.

Left.

He still chose the left because, during the time on the left, Jiang Shu had changed his method of throwing the knife.

The president always believed that each step in this magic trick was meaningful; Jiang Shu seemed whimsical but was always a step ahead of him in counteracting.

So, something must be wrong with his left.

Thus, the president raised his left hand and looked to his left.

”Bring it on.”

”Snap—”

Almost simultaneously with his words, a tremor transmitted from the wheel, and the noise of the flying knife plunging into the wheel was heard.

The president stared blankly in that direction.

After raising his left hand, he finally saw the Flying Knife.

Just now, the movement of raising his hand had blocked the turntable at that position.

He had lost.

”No, you’re cheating, I couldn’t see it at all, I couldn’t see!” The president’s mouth spewed out words incessantly, and he finally started to panic.

”Why do you want to look in that direction? Who can you blame for that?” Smile Face retorted with a chuckle, his words full of mockery.

”That’s wrong, you’ve been misleading me the whole time, this game isn’t fair at all.” The president, as if realizing too late, his eyes red as he stared at Smile Face, like a gambler who had lost everything, ”You’re cheating!”

”Oh?” Smile Face mocked, ”Fair? Are you talking to me about fairness? Do you think everything you’ve got is truly fair?”

He continued, ”My final question is... what is your monthly salary? I want to know, what kind of monthly salary allows you to own billions in personal assets.”

”...” The president fell silent immediately, and without needing Smile Face to remind him, he knew he couldn’t have that much money based solely on Sages Group’s monthly salary.

In the end, all that money had been leveraged through his position of power.

Whether manipulating the stock market, laundering money, or other profit-making schemes.

”When you start talking about fairness, I just want to laugh.” Smile Face pulled out a Flying Knife from his coat, slowly walked over to Hughes, and pulled him up.

He stood behind Hughes and then thrust the Flying Knife into Hughes’s hand.

”Good, now, kill him.” Smile Face’s words carried a seductive tone, ”He is the one who killed your dear friend, he is the source of all your misfortune, now, you can kill him.”

He understood, this was the conclusion Rift would prefer to watch.

A revenger must personally carry the burden of hatred, hiding behind others, letting someone else avenge...

What was that?

Gary’s words also seemed quite interesting.

The one to kill the president can only be your killing intent.

”No, Hughes, Hughes! If you kill me, it won’t be any better for you, you are committing murder!” The president’s face suddenly showed panic, his usual calm demeanor completely disappearing at this moment.

Even when he was brought here, he had never lost his composure like this.

”If you don’t kill him, I’ll kill you.” Smile Face cheerfully took out another Flying Knife and gently placed it on Hughes’s neck, ”I can remind you, in this case, killing the president is not illegal.”

”Why... Why does it have to be me...” Hughes struggled to avoid the blade at his neck, barely looking back at Smile Face, ”You did so much... just kill him, why does it have to be me?”

”Because this is your personal hatred.” Smile Face whispered in his ear, ”Handing over the responsibility of killing to others, don’t you think that’s...”

”Very irresponsible?”

”I...” Hughes didn’t answer, just looked down.

He had never thought things would turn out like this.

Why did it have to be him to kill?

Killing the president in front of so many people...

What would he do with his life afterward?

Thinking this, his body involuntarily weakened, and the knife fell at Smile Face’s feet.

”I... I don’t want to...” A voice as low as a mosquito’s whisper emerged from Hughes’s mouth, his head shaking continuously in refusal.

And Jiang Shu, watching him like this, also blinked in surprise.

He hadn’t expected things to turn out like this either.

Hughes, bullied to this extent, still lacked the courage to resist.

Suddenly, he thought of his conversation with Red Clo.

At that time, he had asked Red Clo why Black Kler had created ”Wildfire,” an organization that couldn’t help in the short term.

Red Clo...

What did he say?

”People of Lonely City need their wild nature right now.”

”’Wildfire’ is the next weapon he left for you.”
